- Canada's federal gun buyback program has racked up a jaw-dropping $67.2 million bill since 2020, yet not a single firearm has been collected.
This program, aimed at compensating AR-15 owners after the government banned them, still lacks key details-four years later.
With over 150,000 prohibited AR-15s in Canada, Canadian gun owners have until October 2025 to hand them in, deactivate them, or get rid of them.
Oh, and $11.5 million? That’s just what they’ve paid consultants to handle the logistics, communications, and other services. Still, not one AR-15 has been collected.
When the government starts talking about 'buybacks' or 'bans,' they're not just screwing you by taking away your rights; they're screwing you and making you pay for it.
It’s a double slap in the face.
If YOU own a SCAR, a gun that runs around $4,000, do you honestly think they’re going to hand you four grand to buy it back?
They’re offering pennies on the dollar, maybe a couple hundred bucks at best.
So now you're losing out on the money you spent on that gun, and on top of that, they’re using your tax dollars to pay for this entire mess.
So you're getting hit twice.

Look up the Civilian Marksmanship Program, where qualified people can buy surplus arms like M1 Garands and Carbines, and pistols like M1911A1s.
Except CMP. Lots of folks have bought garands, and springfields, and 1911’s through the government.

I did 32 years in the U.S Military (Ret.) and currently have 4 years currently contracting w/ triple-c so I know a little bit.
Not that it would be an easy task, but yes, they do...
Between the DHS, CDC, ECS, ICS, NORCM, ROG, USMS (and several more) and the state they are operating using that states NG and Reserves (for those applicable states) they have more than enough assets.
The DHS, CDC and TNG alone have enough assets to completely cordon off every major roadway in and out inside of an 8-hour period with ease. In reality, they have enough to block off the entire northern borders which is about 1700 miles or so and the southern border which is about 1100 miles (all guesses I know I am not right) no problem.
I will not get into a big debate with anyone over this.
I am just telling you, that statement is LARGELY incorrect regardless of what anyone thinks, says, words used, feelings or opinion. Would people rebel? Yes, and rightfully so. The problem is this, intel and logistics. These entities would be able to accomplish very, very easily.

And why did you list ng and us military as seperate entities... also are you tracking the numbers of armed us citizens vs armed government assets at all? Youre entire "point" is laughable and then we consider how effective insurgency style warfare is against militaries. I’ll say again, they had a voluntary buy back where I live. They collected enough plumbing fixtures to build a neighborhood full of houses. Technically they could fire a bullet, once. That was it. Good job government

I read the news article pertaining to the mass stabbings in Saskatchewan Canada in 2022. The report said the authorities would not have been able to prevent this attack because there were no signs indicated by the attackers. Two brothers that committed this attack. These guys had a lifelong propensity toward violence, and they said there was nothing they could’ve done to prevent this attack, I’ll tell you one thing that could’ve stopped him is somebody allowed to carry firearm for personal protection that would’ve stopped him dead in his tracks.

Canadian guy here. I’m a hunter and target shooter. I’ve been using firearms since I was 12. Learned from my Dad, who learned from his Dad etc.
Gun culture is alive and well in rural Canada, but unfortunately that’s not where a majority of us reside. The government targets those in the big cities who only know what guns can do in carjackings and drive by shootings. They pump the anti-gun propaganda to the city folk who elect anti-gun politicians who enact anti-gun laws aimed at disarming law-abiding, licensed gun owners and NOT the criminals.
Handguns have been ‘frozen’ here and only special permits are granted to those with an RPAL who also hold an ATC. Ironically, gun crime in the cities has skyrocketed and almost all are committed with illegal handguns. It goes to show the problem isn’t us. It’s criminals and the black market.
We’re tired of being scapegoated. Weapons smugglers are the problem. Gangs are the problem. No self defence rights are the problem. Slap on the wrist punishments are the problem. Catch and release policing is the problem. Crime is rampant here because criminals have NO FEAR. Period.

The funniest thing about the gun ban in Canada is that it was triggered by the shooting you mentioned, but the shooter never even used an AR15.
AR15s were legal for decades, the last homicide with an AR15 in Canada was in the 70s, yet it's #1 on the shitlist for our gun control groups.
We have a group, Polysesouvient, who advocated for the Ruger Mini-14 to be banned for decades, and it was finally banned, because of the mass shooting in 1989. Guess how many homicides that gun was used in since 1989... ZERO!

Most people buy guns from companies independent of the government, so calling it a buyback doesn't even make sense when they didn't sell it in the first place.

I am a Canadian, a fully legal gun owning Canadian. Guns I aquired after paying full price for the government course to get my license and full price for the guns themselves. And I pay and will continue to pay a boatload of taxes for that "program" .... Here is the thing, since the program launched in 2020 I have heard nothing other than the information I fetched myself. Trust Colion on this one, don't not let this happen in the us. Our gun crimes and violent crimes are on a incredible rise because criminals know nobody can shoot back at them.

The thing about registration is that it is not a ONE-TIME FEE, it is a YEARLY FEE for as long as you own whatever gun that is supposed to be registered. Think about that.

Someone needs to educate them on just what a military style assault rifle is. An M16 used by military and police with select fire is not for civilian use and can't even own one. An Armalite Rifle which is semiautomatic which i manufactured for civilian use is not an assault rifle. It is a sporting and hunting rifle. I get so tired of people referring an AR M15 as an assault rifle. If you take a military style bayonet and a burchers knife side by side they are about the same size. Does this mean we need to ban butchers knives because it is the same size as a bayonet. They both can cut and kill.?????????????
Yea they don't care about technical details they have a narrative to push. Sounds more scarey that your friend or neighbor has one of these and creates panic. Even to the point that some will rat out their friends and family for owning one.
