- This time Joe and Dave play the arcade version of Captain America! This is a pretty good beat 'em up from 1991 that was ported to a few different consoles.

That's not a fairy. That is Wasp. Another Marvel superhero
My son and I played this a few weeks ago, at a retro arcade. Was really surprised that I don't remember playing this in the '90s. It was a solid Data East brawler and I really liked the shooter stages. Way better than I expected it to be and it plays very well.
I always popped a few bucks into this game when I went out to the arcade... not sure why the top comments are hating on this title. It is something different from TMNT, Simpsons, and X-men... and it is pretty fun. Definitely not the best arcade beat-em-up, but FAR from the worst... not worth putting energy in to hating it, and well worth the play through.
I remember playing this game once in an arcade. It was the four-player version and when I put one quarter in it would allow you press start on all four players, so if one character died you could press start on another player without adding another quarter. I'm not sure if that's how it was intended to be played or if the arcade screwed up, but me and a few other people played through the whole game alternating who put the next quarter in so all four of us could play on one credit.
I have to say that the Xmen arcade beat'em is way better than this!
The giant dual screen arcade cabinet was awesome.
Yeah, storm and dazzler :D dat ass has the slowest special move in the game.
i love playing with sacks
I got a kick out of this one as a kid. Until TMNT and X-Men came to our arcade. I love Red Skull's laugh.
Man I sunk so many quarters into this game in the 90s. Ah those were the days.... Great episode guys thanks for the nostalgia
I have this on Genesis. It's an excellent port of the arcade game. One of the best arcade ports on the Genesis as well.
2:15 The guy in green looks so much like a knight from Golden Axe - the armor and the evil laugh with shoulders moving made me think it was also a Sega game.
Funny that you guys think the Vision wasn't in any movies.
Yeah we're definitely not into the lore. We're into the games. Never heard of Vision.
+Game Sack
Vision was the main focus of Avengers Age of Ultron
+Game Sack Vision was the main focus of Avengers age of Ultron.
Paul Bujak
Yeah but was Vision the main focus of Avengers Age of Ultron?
+Game Sack Vision was the main focus of Ultron age of Avengers.
Each one of those talking segments were comedy gold. Each one almost as funny as "Welcome to DIIIEEEE!"
I loved playing this game in an arcade.
damn dudes, I don't read comics and even I know aquaman is dc and not marvel lol
that was a short game :(
Best part of this game is the use of many of the lesser known villains. Sure its got well known ones like Red Skull, Mandarin, Ultron, Juggernaught, and Cross Bones(due to the movies), but it also had guys like The Wizard, The Claw, and Whirlwind. Other than that, it just seemed an average beat em up.
I got 99 credits, but a Nighthawk ain't one.
I like Captain America, even back in the day. There's always been something cool about unconventional weapon, like the shield he throws. Also Power Blade on the NES with the boomerang. Maybe I just like the idea of thrown stuff that comes back....
Guys first off calling this playing with sacks instead of lets play is #1 intelligent. Plus the are entertaining. Love your guys humor!
i rarely play with sacks multiple times in a day, but here i am
"I CAN'T....MOOOOOVE!!!" Used to love that sound bite for some reason
'tako' is octopus in Japanese so that underwater boss makes sense if you know that. :P this is one of my favorite arcade beat-em-ups! that music that plays when the boss gets down to about 10-15 percent health is epic!
great video hope we get to see some more arcade games if you have em! :P
Took me a second to realized it wasnt a fairy but Wasp flying around like a giant bullet
Also weird boss scaling:
The weakest & human tier in comics would be Crossbones, Reaper, & Red Skull
The most broken strong enemies Juggernaut, Ultron, and Mandarin
Someone should make a beat-em-up focusing on the Great Lakes Avengers just to crank to obscurity levels to maximum levels.
I've never played the arcade version, but I had the SNES version as a kid. It's no turtles in time, but still a fun game that got a lot of play.
I have a lot of strong memories both playing this in the arcade and renting the Sega Genesis port. the Genesis version was actually a halfway decent port (to my now 20+ year old memories of it).
I LOVE Captain America and the Avengers for the Sega Genesis!
19:28 "That last little centimeter of life bar, just goes so slow"
There's hope for 'murica going metric after all!
4 players me and 3 other random kids had a blast with this game back in the day. each of us would talk turns running back to our parents for more quarters.
You guys are not very familiar with Marvel. Vision is a top tier marvel superhero.
#MakeKonamiGreatAgain
How bout Data East? 😼
I rented this in the early nineties with my nephew, we finised the game in 1h, but we still laugh with the one liners till this day xD
I loved this game in the arcade. The ridiculous voices absolutely made it. Like, I'm imagining those English voice actors being handed that mangled script written by pre-internet era Japanese devs (mis)using a phrasebook. Did they put up a fight & lose the argument?
The Vision is in the 2nd Avengers movie, he is kinda crucial to the plot
They were the ones escaping before the movie ended.
the green and red and yellow look is the classic look. the white vision was from the late 80s early 90s
That was Namor the submariner (mare-un-er) ... the OG of water superheroes. Namor showed up in Marvel comics in 1939, whereas Aquaman (DC's Namor Ripoff) came into play around 1940-41 ish. Namor is way less homosexual, despite his loincloth-only appearance. This may or may not be a bad thing.
These lets plays are awesome keep them up
I remember loving this as a kid. It hasn't aged very well.
that's what she said
The Submariner predates Aquaman. He is incredibly strong. In the 60's the Submariner and the Hulk would team up and trash the fantastic Four and the Avengers. Yes those two could kick major teams asses.
He even teamed with Doom .... But originally, as the Allied Powers with Cap and Torch {android}
I really wish that this game got ported to playstation or xbox like some other classic arcade games!
I still love this game! I can't remember if you could make the shield in the arcade game or if that was a sega genesis only thing, but man.. so much fun!
Playing with Sacks is awesome.
I remember playing this in a car service. It also had Street Fighter 2 and Wrestlefest at some point
I love Playing with Sacks.
i had this on sega as a kid. loved it.
It is inaccurate to describe the Submariner as not being a proper Aquaman since this character (real name Namor) actually predated Aquaman, meaning if anything Aquaman is the ripoff.
Truth!
1991 in the arcades then it was ported to the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive in 1992, SNES & Game Gear in '93, and Game Boy in '94.
The sega Genesis version was awesome too. Thanks for another great video guys.
My friend had his birthday at our local arcade the Dream Machine. We played this game until we beat it.
This is one of my favourite beat 'em ups though not for the gameplay, which as you say is distinctly average, the graphics are also not exactly stellar for the time .I just love the voice acting and cheesy music, it really adds to the experience, I can't help but laugh at Red Skull's "Hahhaha" it's glorious.
Haa the dialogue in this "where's the laser !? Ask the police !" I use to play captain america and the avengers in the arcades.Another game that was made to take you're quarters.
Of course it was a quarter muncher, your health was basically a timer and counted down even when you weren't taking damage.
Pretty much like most beat'em ups for the arcades in the 90's.
+Progearspec There were some, but luckily they weren't the majority.
"Where is the laser?"
"Why should it go well?"
Data East DID make another Avengers game, but it was a fighting game and doesn't seem to be a sequel.
Next up. A Pokemon themed Playing With Sacks re-titiled, you guessed it, Playing With Ball Sacks.
**looks down at comments**
Yeah, never joke about video games or comic books because there will be a lot of butthurt trolls trying to point out your character flaws. ;) Nothing but absolutely serious and professionally researched analysis from now on.
Joe, Dave, please upload some of the old movies you made that you have on the dvd when it becomes unavailable, And please upload the beginnings of game sacks, money is tight for me and others right now and i Really want to see this footage
based on your shirts alone. I think you just got finished filming an episode for 16-bit superhero games. I hope I win those bonus points!
Submariner is Marvel, Aquaman is DC.
hahahha I used to play this Gem at the Arcades
Good stuff as usual chaps, I really enjoy your content. Keep up the good work!
Nice sword arsenal in the background, guys! ;)
How do you use a joystick without it attached to something? I recall trying to use one of those controllers but it would move too much.
I never understood what was wrong with Juggernaut's helmet in this game.
Quinjet... the Avengers space shuttle thingy is actually called the Quinjet.
You should do another Left in North America. There's a few games I know of which didn't appear in that episode.
I loved the Genesis port of this! Fantastic with Streets of Raaaaaage 2!
Cant get enuff of them sacks!!!!
love this game! much better than the xmen arcade game 😃
That intro music sounds just like the intro to Boogerman on Genesis
I got it. Obscure or Low selling games with cult followings. That or your shirts have nothing to do with the episode you just shot and you're trying to trick us.
+Tattle Boad Nor is splatterhouse. As a kid in the 90's it was impossible not to hear about it.
You know they talk in the first 10 seconds about "Can you guess what episode we just finished recording based on our shirts" The episode is Obscure or Low Selling Games with Cult Followings, right.
Right
IMO Okami IS obscure!
+Mythrashylife Yeah to each his own..I still own okami on my ps2, I got it for $12.99 when GameStop was getting rid of ps2 games.
I preferred the NES version to the arcade beat-em-up if only because of the nifty Captain America theme that it had.
Got this game for the Genesis as a kid. I loved it even though it was poorly rated. could not beat it, always lost to red skull.
I miss you guys
Ps klaw, the first boss in this game , Was Also in AOU but he really looked different
wow this series has no views, i like it.
I like the title. "Playing with sacks"
Another great video guys!
hey guys love your show u do fantastic work!!! I would love to see you guys do Guardian Heroes for the GREATEST CONSOLE EVER THE SEGA SATURN!!!!!!!!!!!
Dave, please win the lottery so I can see Konami great again :)
Giant Robot, because spelling Sentinel was too hard for the developers to write
Fun game but really overshadowed by the better beat em ups of the generation. Great vistas always
dude you guys are fucking awesome i love your channel
Now I Know thanks bud, appreciate that!
I guarantee that Thanos will rip the gem out of Visions forehead and he will turn pale like the version in this game.
"You came here to die!!!!"
"Did not."
Such a fun game
Dang, I need to watch you guys again.
(Yes I did have an older name, which was the default name before I changed it, so yeah) .
It's been how long, over a year? :P
one of my top games for the geneses
The Data East quirkiness shows through!
Memory is weird. I remembered the roster, the projectile attacks, the shooter parts, and the first stage's music. Yet I didn't remember Vision being in that costume or those amazing voice clips.
I'm with Joe on this one. Despite the comic panels and soundbytes, this is a pretty bland beat-'em-up. The small sprites also don't do it any favors.
Joe, where did you get that Splatterhouse shirt?! I would love to have one, even if its rare!
It's a Sack Attack!!
More playing with sacks
Turbo grafx 16 for sure!! Bloody Wolf and Splatterhouse!!!!!!!
Splatterhouse is right bud Dave's shirt is from Okami a game for the PS2.
The 48 people who disliked this are relatives of the Red Skull.
Red skull is going to kick your ass for calling it a basic beat em up.
weird. Was just thinking of this game today
you guys don't have a very large closet do you.
kidding great channel men!
This was made By Data East, but it went down south a while ago.haha
Twak Krak Wtak Vwoooosh!
I'll spend my points on Joe's copy of MUSHA! Cough it up!
I like the name playing with sacks
Captain America & his favorite weapon: the yo-yo
While this was a great effort by Data East in making a Marvel beat 'em up and it was fun, I still prefer Konami's X-men Arcade game.
im gonna spend my bonus points on a fresh pizza pie. yum
the sega genesis had a really good version of this but wow the super nes version was really bad if i remember
I'm gonna spend my bonus points on sack credits.
