    I liked Special Delivery Jones. Always wondered why he wasn't on top. He was a good wrestler. Hard to believe that boots was the cause. Kind of broke my heart when Bundy set a new record against him at Wrestlemania.

      SD understood ring psychology and he knew how to sell. SD just didn't have much charisma and wasn't a great talker. That being said, SD was great at putting over up and coming heels. SD was over with fans and his matches were entertaining.

    SD Jones was a wrestler who deserved better. He had the strength and the athletic ability.
    I don't understand why he did'nt try his luck with other promotions besides the WWF. He was just as good as other Black Wrestling stars that were over like Rufus R. Jones and Thunderbolt Patterson.
    Other talented Black Wrestlers that should have been given a bigger push are Pistol Pez Whatley, George Wells, Norman Smiley and JT Smith of ECW fame.

      There are tons of wrestlers, and so very few top spots, some guys are going to be over looked .

    • @stevewilliams3129
      @stevewilliams3129 5 лет назад +3

      @@rexrichardson8834 I understand that! I just find it strange that SD was a permanent enhancement guy considering his size and strength. Keep in mind we are talking about the territory days when they had a ton of regional championship belts. Not like today were they have a limited number of titles.
      I'm not saying the guys I mentioned should have worked on top, I just think they could have had a higher profile than they did if that makes sense. For example, I grew up watching Jim Crockett Promotions. Pistol Pez Whatley could have at least been a Mid Atlantic heavyweight champion considering his talent.

    They talk about how S.D. Jones was the Johnny Rodz of the faces. One thing Atlas forgets about S.D.'s run while he didn't get a push like he should have He like Rodz from what other wrestlers have said was they were what they called "Gate Keepers" for the company. The "Gate Keepers" were guys that either wrestled new talent or guys they wanted to push and evaluated them for the promoters as to whether they deserved a push or should be there.
    Guys like S.D. Jones, Johnny rodz, Jose Estrada, Mike Sharpe, and later in their careers Jay Strongbow, Tony Garea, ect would face new talent or guys Vince Sr. & Jr wanted to push and even though they would lose to that wrestler they would report to Vince Sr. or Jr. and tell them if they thought that guy deserved to either be there if they were a new guy or deserved a push at that time. That's why guys like S.D. Jones made decent money even though they weren't high on the card. This is what I've been able to gather from listening to & reading other wrester's interviews.

    • @Aevilbeast
      @Aevilbeast 3 года назад

      Yeah that's what a lot of people don't understand. Just because you are a so called "Jobber" does NOT mean you are not valuable asset to the company. There's almost two classes of the traditional jobber", one was wrestlers that were just in-and-out or hired that night because they needed someone, and while they did sometimes find a good talent that way, that kind was pretty much considered disposable.
      The other was long-term enhancement talent, that were signed to a contract. They were talented people that they could 100% rely on to do exactly what they need to and to make sure the talents they were pushing got the shine they needed to. That is not a position they would give just anyone, and if you were able to get it it meant they really thought you were an asset to the company and if did what they wanted you were going to have a good paying job for a while.
      People get so confused that if you didn't get top billing or weren't a big mega-star, that you were getting paid good or were treated like garbage, and that's simply not true. For a lot of wrestlers, they understand and are ok knowing that they probably will never be a top guy as long they have good steady work that they can support their families with. It doesn't mean they were settling or were being looked over, just they were being realistic and found their own spot they were comfortable with.

    • @williambarnard1763
      @williambarnard1763 3 года назад

      @@Aevilbeast Exactly and as I said those guys that got contracts were considered something like "gate keepers" that made sure only guys that deserved a push got it or deserved to be there were there. Those are the kind of guys that the WWE or any other wrestling HOF need to start recognizing as well because without them a lot of these promoters wouldn't know real talent.
