Mark Henry, Booker T, Big E, Bobby Lashley and R-Truth in my opinion were passed on. R-Truth when he was doing his crazy gimmick and faced Cena at Capitol Punishment that was his opportunity. Mark Henry when he fake retired and attacked Cena that was his time. Booker T when he faced Triple H at Wrestlemania was his time. Bobby Lashley when he came back and could've faced Brock Lesnar before killing his character in the last year. Big E is a future champion if he cuts his hair lol. Kofi should get it at Mania because he's almost as hot as Daniel Bryan was at WM 30 as far as the fans wanting him to win.

Hogan file a lawsuit against Vince in 1993 but he became a hall of famer and was televised in January of 2019. Bret Hart spits in Vince's face during Survivor Series 1997 match with Shawn Michaels. Bret became a hall of famer and given another chance to be on television; once again. Stone Cold beat up Vince McMahon almost every single week on raw during attitude era. Stone Cold enter the hall of fame and could come back to WWE television whenever he feels like it. Ahmed Johnson was the first big black man to jump over the ropes, the first black intercontinental champion, and invented the triple German suplex. Yet, Vince purposely ignored Ahmed accomplishments while working for WWF new generation now call WWE. My whole point is theirs a double standard between black and white wrestlers in professional wrestling.

I think Tony's wrong on a few counts:
"Bad News" Allen Coage (Bad News Brown) would have made an awesome, long-term HEEL champ during his late-1980s WWF run. While Allen's "charisma" was arguably more limited than others, it isn't as important an element for heels as it is for 'face' title contenders. Yet he certainly knew how to generate heel heat when needed. Remember how he disposed of Bret Hart so despicably in that battle royale which they had tentatively "co-won" as heels? He succeeded not only in changing the match's decision by making himself the sole winner, but he ultimately facilitated Hart's first major face-turn in the WWF! How's that for good service?
Nelson Frasier (Viscera) could have a been a "transitional" heel champ for at least one short reign until being dethroned by someone with an over-the-top gimmick like The Undertaker.
Both Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin would have been excellent WWE heavyweight champs in their prime (a decade ago), provided they had a manager or a vocal female valet to act as their mouthpiece. And by that I don't mean Shelton's mother [insert eye-roll here]. They might still be able to pull it off, come to think of it, as both appear to be healthy and willing to work, despite being close to their mid-40s.
While Ron Killings (R. Truth) may also be past his prime (he's older than Lashley and Benjamin, in fact), I think he's still healthy and dedicated to optimizing his career, so much so that NOW might be the best time for him to win the WWE championship - forget Kofi Kingston! Perhaps a rivalry could develop between them for that title!
It's crazy that it took around twelve years for Mark Henry to receive his first major championship in the WWE (the revived ECW title), and even longer to finally win the Heavyweight strap - an accolade that came years too late!
During Vince McMahon Jr.'s era of ownership, the company has had plenty of "black power" - maybe too much - that was never properly channeled. It's a very strange and disappointing trend, indeed.

    • @bostonwrestlingcom
      @bostonwrestlingcom  5 лет назад +1

      Appreciate your thoughts, Steve.
Would have loved to have seen Bad News Brown hit his peak during the Attitude Era. I think there would have been tremendous potential for him to have had the slot as top heel at that point. Giving him the title during the Hogan-Savage runs would have ruined - arguably - the best long term storyline the company ever created.
Viscera would have been a terrible, terrible choice. There are things fans don't see on television. From first hand experience, lazy and difficult to do business with. Prone to injuring others. Not very good in the ring. He had a look about him, for sure, but that was about it - and then the bell rings.
Bobby could have been one of the faces of WWE, for sure, if it wasn't for his departure. Shelton is a great personal friend, but to me, he's just missing that special something to have given him THAT belt. At the same time, WWE could have done so much more with him it's embarrassing.

Another great episide, MWF! I still disagree about racism in wrestling, and from Tony's own mouth, he further elaborated on it unwittingly. He said most of the black wrestlers tried to sabotage him, and take his spot. He's also said that thete was only ONE spot to be had for black wrestlers in those days. Think about that: one spot. Tony also said that he was late repeatedly and that led to his being fired (if I heard correctly). But there were those who did worse than him. Let's fast forward to 1999, and HHH being pushed down the audience's throat every week; Shawn Michaels turned heel to get him over, VINCE MCMAHON WON THE WWF TITLE, WITH THE HELP OF STONE COLD STEVE AUSTIN just to get him over. Stephanie turned heel just to get him over. Hunter's promos STUNK, his matches were just okay. But, Vince wanted him to get over, so all of his many main event flaws were overlooked, until FINALLY, after Judgement Day in May of 2000, a full year after he turned heel, NINE MONTHS AFYER HIS FIRST TITLE WIN, he got over. When the audience finished hi line that next night on Raw, 'I am the game. And I am that damn....." and the crowd said "Good!", I looked at one of my best friends and said "He's over now." I apologize for the long post, but I felt those points needed to be brought out.

Am I tripping but did he state that Cena's better because he saw John lifting weights in the gym...?
Cena is/was this generation's Hogan "brother" but with a few more moves but not enough to keep me watching WWE for years...
After Brock, Cena bothered the he'll out of me. And after watching that promo cut on Roman.... That was disheartening. You teach guys BTS and not in front of the crowd...😕😯😥😭.

I think the better question to be asked Is when a Black wrestler was on drugs as oppose to a white wrestler on drugs why was the White wrestler still given a chance to be pushed but a Black wrestler wasn't?! Because back then majority of the guys in the industry did drugs of some sort. So why is the White wrestler given a pass to carry the torch but a Black wrestler is punished for doing the same as a White wrestler. While it's true not all Black wrestlers are created equal (some are better than others) but you have to admit they have less trust and leeway than their White counterparts. Someone needs to ask Vince in a interview of why he didn't push CERTAIN Black wrestlers who were qualified at the time. (Was it more Business or Color). Tony Atlas, JYD, Ron Simmons, Mark Henry, Ahmed Johnson, Booker T, Bobby Lashley were all credible to be World Champion at their times in the business despite their shortcomings.

The only reason why any of this is happening is because Mustafa Ali got hurt and they put Kofi in his place. All these people that are vouching for Kofi to get the title shot at Mania, where were they 3 months ago when he was still tossing pancakes out to the crowd? C'mon man. Kofi definitely has paid his dues and deserves to at least be in the title picture if not a title-run, but a lot of this ground-swell is just bandwagon-jumping from people that could care less about Kofi. Like I said, NO ONE was vouching for this guy before all this.
I personally would like to see him with a title-run because Daniel Bryan as a heel is boring. Aj Styles as great of a wrestler as he is has gotten boring. Randy Orton has BEEN boring. Let Kofi have a go at it.
