    Initially the train starts to move then bankers take charge. At karjat the bankers take charge but have to again brake as there is turnout. Whereas from Kasara there no turnout straightaway mainline so that time bankers go mad espcially with 25 coach load. So even to maintain the comfort level, post june 2018 railways have changed the working style, now only 2 bankers are live (used) for passenger trains and now bankers only depart the train and then the front loco takes over and throughout the bankers only control the train i.e. bankers become the leading loco in ghats. Final stop at lonavala or igatpuri is from the banker side and not from the hauler side, even heavy speed/power control done from the back. Initially all these things were done by the hauler, bankers used to only push the train and control the speed/power to some extent. Previously it was more of a co-ordinated effort now mostly it is the bankers work only. Only 25% job is of the front loco, rest 75% job is of the banker. Even with this, chances of accident have also become less.

    Banker Engines temporarily assist a train that requires additional power or traction to climb a grade. Helpers/bankers are most commonly found in ghat sections, where the ruling grade may demand the use of substantially greater motive power than that required for other grades within the division. For more info u can goto the link provided in the description.

    Nice video! Only thing I wish is when the train starts to move you must have focused on the buffers between bankers and last coach of rake. This would have clearly shown that bankers push and start moving the train.. Anyways, nice video.. Thanks for sharing..

    what are banker engines n why are they added?

    • @brioown
      @brioown 6 лет назад

      Arijit Bardhan The section between Karjat and Lonavala is ghat section. As Pune is located on the Deccan plateau and at a height of approx 650 meters above sea level. All the trains going from Mumbai towards Pune require bankers to push in addition to the pull of the leading loco to negotiate the steep gradient in the ghats. Likewise for trains travelling towards Nashik from Mumbai, bankers are attached at Kasara and removed at Igatpuri.
