I have a snake who I believe was exposed to second hand smoke. I rehomed him from criagslist and every item the original owner gave me smelled like cigarettes. I used to hear him wheeze or make strange noises when I first got him. Always suspected it was the smoke but seeing what that did to this pup makes me sure of it. I’m glad Sophia was able to make such a good recovery and won’t have to live in an environment like that anymore!
Sophia is the sweetest chihuahua I've ever seen. Looks like she got a wonderful forever home. I'm so happy for her! Thank you very much for saying NO to euthanasia as her prior owners requested! I hope they haven't gotten another dog or any other pet that has to live in that nasty, smoke-filled environment.
My grandparents smoke and they have dogs buttt, they tried to quit smoking and after they failed they added air filter right next to the couch(where my grandpa smokes) and all over the house to make it a safer environment for everyone especially the dogs, they also actually care for the dogs and get someone to take them on walks(normally my uncle). These owners are straight up neglect.
She looks like my chihuahua that has passed at almost 17. The sweetest dog I ever had. The mix in my picture is a rescue and also nice but a feisty terrier mix. Glad you saved this sweet girl.
I have such a soft spot for chihuahuas. They get a sort of bad rap, but they're fantastic pets. They might hate your friends but will definitely burn the world for you. They're a handful the same way huskies are, because theyre clever and have a ton of personality. Yes it makes them harder to handle but its also what makes them such engaging companions.
I'm crying right now. My precious Brie died June 18th, a little 4 pound Chihuahua rescue whose breeder a 2 pack a day smoker who dumped her to me. Brie had severe asthma after going to ER Cardiologist. Enlarged rt. Side heart...after 8 years on an inhaler for Asthma her little ribs was pushed into her trachea from her huge enlarged heart, after being on heart meds. I miss her terribly, then I see this precious baby on here.
Sad, sorry for your loss, but remember all the love you gave her and the good life you could provide. It is sad they all have shorter lives, making it hard to see then move on, but we just do the best we can for them while they share their life with us. ❤️
@@queenbee3647 bless you, that is tough. My dad smoked too so didn’t help. I wish people would see the damage they are causing. Now it’s vaping and children are doing this. Keep warm and safe this winter. Sending you the best wishes of the season.
So happy for Precious Little Angel SOPHIA to be adopted in a Loving Forever Home and Family 🐕❤️🌹 May God be with you all for saving all these PRECIOUS LITTLE ANGELS and rehoming them all🐕🐕🐕🐕❤️🌹 Happy Holidays everyone 💋🐕❤️🌹
Great to see the lead up intro, DX, treatments leading up to adoption. We saw some of it, including a bit of the meet and greet, but wow, such a little cutie. So glad she got over the cough and other issues AND found a new loving care taker! Go Sophia!!
Heavy smokers and a pet or baby is just criminal and shouldn't be allowed. She is precious. Shes a little tiny girl. My little guy is just a wee smaller. We've had them her size and some bigger. Loved them all. Me and my wife rescued this little guy when he was 7 in 2015. Lost my wife in 2019 and he is now glued to me everywhere i go. I carry in my jacket to the mailbox every day weather allows. He is 15 in March 2023 and is doing wonderful. Sometimes he acts like a puppy bouncing around and running. Usually around food time Im his waiter it seems :)
Cutie Miss Sophia!! It might be worth mentioning/adding a FLASHING LIGHTS warning for 10:19-22 in this video. It's a pretty intense effect, I think people should have the warning! A little note in the description would be helpful in future videos with similar effects. Thanks for all you guys do for our furry friends!
I was just about to comment the same thing! I don't even have seizures and I had to look away because it was too intense. It's probably even worse for people watching on devices in a dark room.
Beautiful outcome for Sophia Maria and her adoptive mother. So thought your wonderful Vet Tech was going to adopt her. Glad to hear Sophia had little indication of CCF.
Hugs to you April! What a good mommy you are. I think your doctor can help with medication to make it a lot easier to stop if you want to. Then walk up and down your staircase or outside everyday and your sweet body will be in “ship shape” before you know it. Just do the best you can though and be happy regardless. ❤
My Jack Russell had copd, though fairly mildly. No cigarette smoke exposure but he did deal with a lot of allergies. Glad the little chihuahua is getting good care.
Great job! I'm studying to pass my veterinary board exams so looking at cases to gain experience. Looks like the dog has a vertebral heart score of about 10.2 which is borderline for heart enlargement (thanks to your clear xrays I could measure on screen) - suggest you repeat those x rays in 6 months to see if heart enlarges. Some other observations: ~The diaphragm looks flattened at top back border ~The front bottom lobar bronchi look widened Both confirming chronic bronchitis
I have a designated small enclosed porch that is my smoke room. Animals not allowed. One ten year old pitbull mix rescue, one American domestic long haired cat twelve year old bottle fed babie, and three California mixed bunnies four month olds, siblings. Cat and dog spayed and neutered and bunnies separated by sex ( so no unplanned pregnancies) will be spayed and neutered in about a month. So yes it can be done. Just like kids, don't smoke around your fur babies please. They are just as susceptible to emphysema as humans and cancer. Their lungs are a lot smaller then ours also
I smoke and would die if I caused this damage to my animals. I smoke outside because of my fur babies and human babies. Poor baby. Must of been so sore.
Fantastic work! I wish people wouldn't dress them up in human clothes as though they were babies though. It's not natural, you'll just generally overheat them, and give the poor dogs PTSD.
It was also humans who put in all the time, money, and care to rehab this little dog and get her to a loving new home. This vid has only been out for 30 minutes and 150 humans have already liked it. Don't lose hope yet. There are as many good humans as bad.
I taught my kids to hate some behaviors people have, not the people. In your case, you are blanket hating people in general. Please try to work on that. It isn't good for you and most people are good or at least try to be. There are certainly those who need renovations, but hating them for it doesn't work or help. It will only poison you. Look for the good in people. There are a lot of good people out there - just look at all those on Vet Ranch!!!
@@mickymickle2764 The issue is not the ratio of good to bad it’s the potency of the negativity of the bad meaning it’s destructive poisonous force. I'm starting to believe we have a different breed of chihuahua here in Denmark, I have never seen a chihuahua younger than 12 years with as bad teeth as these american chihuahuas seem to get at a very young age. My family has had chihuahua and chihuahua size dogs since forever, and none of them has ever developed bad teeth before the at least the age of 10.
I have a chihuahua with awesome teeth. He only eats dry kibble, no soft food. I see many dog owners from Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden and the diet is VERY different from the American vets advice. I see dogs from scandinavian countries eating grass, weeds, tree branches, animal bones, eggs shell and all, internal organs, meat with bone in, etc. Vets in America DO NOT advocate that sort of anything goes eating for an animal. Never let your pet eat things that will splinter in their gut, tree limbs and any sort of bone! It confuses me why vets in Europe think thats ok.

Omg what a great lady to adopt Sophia. I wanted to be adopted by her too! I just feel she will have the best home.

I work on (human's) cancer charts. I've seen lung cancers in people who never smoked, but had lots of 2nd hand smoke from parents or spouses 🙁
The poor baby, so glad you saved her!
I have a chocolate tri deer head just like her. I'm so glad Sophia Maria found a family who absolutely adore her.

Thank you for giving this very sweet little dog a second chance ❤️ 💕 💙 💗 💖 😊 ❤️
My mum has COPD and never smoked. All passive due to catering in a canteen where smoking was allowed back then. She had about 10 years of this.
Me too! On oxygen 24/7 with heart failure for the last 23 years. Never ever smoked.

Yay Sophia Marie!! What a little doll! She is going to have an amazing rest of her life!
All the vet ranch animals tug at my heart strings but Miss Sophia hit me extra hard. I’m so happy she got such a wonderful furever home.
Hello from Michigan I feel sorry for that poor dog I have stage 4 COPD with 10% lung capacity and 57 years old dying in a nursing home.

I hope the old owners watched this, and felt so disgusted with themselves that they quit smoking.

Hello Stacy, how are you doing today, hope you’re fine and safe from the Virus??
Surely Sophia deserves a photo on the wall behind you? A tiny one like her! 😍🥰😍🥰
Followed Sophia on RoundUp from arrival, to mermaid cosplay win, through to her adoption...
Sophia is precious.
I'm not a fan of dressing up dogs unless they're cold, but if it earns Miss Sophia a cozy bed, I guess I'm ok with it. Haha. Great job Vet Ranch!

At least she has been spade. So glad she is doing better.
Great job Sophia! Merry Christmas y'all 🎄
Happy tails Sophie!

hey, a seizure warning on all of the bright flashing camera lights maybe would be a nice warning in the future, that got me pretty bad
@VetRanch...would you mind putting a flash warning at the 10 min mark? Thanks!
Perfect match!
Fantastic work! I wish people wouldn't dress them up in human clothes as though they were babies though. It's not natural, you'll just generally overheat them, and give the poor dogs PTSD.
This video should have a warning that there are flashing images (at 0:09 and 10:20). It might potentially cause seizures and risk someone's life.
Perfect little old lady dog.
At the beginning she sounded like a zombie in a horror movie 😮

Can you fix the hernia?
