    Thank you for the very important information that there is NO WEIGHT LIMIT for free carry on bag, this information is completely absent from their website and I assumed it was a trick and there is a secret limit that we only find out at the airport us to charge us more.

    Do you think the new x35 could count as small bag if folded down ?

    • @travelability9964
      @travelability9964  4 года назад +5

      Thanks Mr E! That's a really good question. The RiutBag X35, even in compact mode, is technically too large to fit into the "small bag" category - mainly because it's designed large enough to hold a 15.6" laptop. But this where it's worth considering the strictness of the policy in practice. The last two times I travelled with someone else, that person didn't pay for extra cabin bags and took their RiutBag X35 on as their "small bag" expanded AND fully packed. Wild. I'm flying on Ryanair this Friday with my RiutBag X35. It'll be full, but I'll have a go at emptying it to see whether the compact folded X35 fits under the seat in front. Because that's the crucial test for the small bag. Because I don't want anyone getting caught out, I think the best advice is using the RiutBag Crush as the small bag and the X35 as the paid for cabin bag. Remember, the RiutBag Crush folds down into a small pocket and slips inside your main luggage when you're not using it. Thanks for watching and for your question! Kind regards, Sarah - Travelability/Riut

      @@ErykSienicki Hello Mr E! Thanks again for your question. I flew with Ryanair last night and had a good look at how to answer your question in theory and practice. Question: would the folded compact version of the RiutBag X35 work as a "small bag"? Answer 1 - the theory: According to the strict interpretation of Ryanair's new policy, even the compacted X35 would be too big, coming in at about 45 x 35 x 15 cm at its widest points, larger - in parts - than the 40 x 25 x 20 cm allowed. That's because the "small bag" is meant to slide under the seat in front. Whilst some of the spaces under the seat in front are actually quite large, often those on either side of the aisle have a much smaller under seat area. Therefore, Ryanair has decided everyone's small bag needs to fit in the smallest under seat space, just in case they are sitting there. That seems sensible, but it means we have a bit of room for manoeuvre in the real world. Answer 2 - the practice: Standing in the queue, as I was yesterday, waiting to get on - which is the point at which staff review whether they think your luggage is the right size - they let on every medium size soft pack backpack, even in the non-priority "small bag" only queue. There were certainly backpacks larger than the compact X35 getting on with no problem. Sitting in the plane and thinking about your question, I realised I'm getting too caught up about the small seat in front rule. The staff at the gate are not checking whether you are sitting in one of the seats that has a smaller or larger under-seat area. They just want to make sure you have a reasonably small backpack that can just about make it under the seat in front. Once you're on the plane, you're free. Even though you're meant to put your small bag under the seat in front, you can put it anywhere. And this is where the particular shape of the compact/folded RiutBag X35 is your friend. It's wide and flat. It will fit *over* other people's hard cases. So you can slide it in the overhead lockers. The only bags that staff are kicking out of the cabin and into the hold - and yesterday they didn't even charge for it - are oversized hard suitcases. So a slightly larger "small bag" simply isn't an issue for now. For purists, like me, who hate to break rules and happen to have designed a backpack that perfectly fits the "small bag" size, I will stick to the RiutBag Crush as my small bag. But from what I see at the gate, a compact X35 will get on and can go anywhere. Like I said, I know people who book no extra luggage and brazenly get on with a full and heavy X35 as their small bag. I couldn't do it! Conclusion: RiutBag Crush is designed to be a small bag. The X35 in compact mode size, based on my far-too-frequent-Ryanair experience, seems to be allowed as a small bag in practice at the gate. Much detail, but hopefully that gives you a sense of how it's likely to work in practice. Happy travels!
