Dark Matter is one of my favorite inks. It is rubbing alcohol proof, and very water resistant, going into water proof. Baystate Blue is another of my favorites, it is not rubbing alcohol proof. But very water proof.
i love this ink in my broads its a dark grey not black in fact i find it like 60s film dark grey, its like writing in the black and white tv era love it.
I have been looking at this one, also due to the history.... my hands down fav black is Heart of Darkness and I really only have room for one black in my stock... but I might just get a bottle of this anyway...

shadowmihaiu it seems to behave better for me than h.o.d. especially on tomoe river and the midori journals. It’s crap in my sketchbook though but that’s just strathmore drawing paper
Sketchbooks have good paper for dry media, like graphite. Sketchbooks don't normally do well against wet media which is why fountain pen ink tends to feather like mad and bleed on it.
so not that you're aren't already doing enough scientific testing, but out of curiosity, have you considered adding an electronic PH tester to your repertoire? I'm not sure what particular model would be applicable, but that would be interesting to see from the position of wanting to potentially mix different inks together!
@@AnInkGuy silly me, I don't know how I didn't notice that before! I guess I figured you would have to use an electronic instrument since ph strips are read by color and, well, dipping them in ink and all that.
I was going to order this ink per your review. Then, at the last second I went with Noodler’s Heart of Darkness because I love the literary reference 😆. Still, your review made me feel confident going with a Noodler’s black. Would you recommend a nice bright white fountain pen paper that will really shine with my black ink? A paper that when combined with black will remind me of an Ansel Adams black and white photograph when I’m writing? Great review. 👊🏼.
I think the Clairefontaine paper shows the color better than any other paper. The only down side it you cannot get, or I cannot find, blank pages. The white is such a pure and bright white, I think that is what you will want.
I have had times the ink didn't behave the best on paper. But never have a problem with it cleaning out of my pens. Broad nibs on thinner paper and you could get some bleed.

It was and still is one of my favorite black inks... and like you are pointing out the color performance is just spectacular.

The history is what gives this ink a real push for me being a math nerd.

Whether it is darker or not, Dark Matter is one of if not my absolute favorite black ink.
Halo is when you get a dark outline around the writing.
Darker than Heart of Darkness is hard to believe... I have been looking at this one, though.

There is a Ph strip on the top of the Chromatography. I just don't mention it because I haven't seen enough of a variation to bother mention it.

Funny, I just came here from viewing VittaR's review, where she calls Dark Matter problematically DRY.
Her video are legendary to me... but we can, and do at times, have very different opinions on an ink.
I really love the tone of Dark Matter, but I found it didn't behave well for me.
