Lisa is an absolutely amazing performer but, as you said, something felt off about this performance, although I don't agree with calling it a flop either. On the categorisation issue, this is what the BBC reported about Tyla's win: South African star Tyla won best Afrobeats song for her irresistible break-out hit Water - but she used her speech to make a important point about categorisation. "This is so special, but also bittersweet because there is a tendency to group all artists under Afrobeats," said the star, whose music is more closely related to Amapiano. "Even though Afrobeats has opened so many doors for us, African music is so diverse. It’s more than just Afrobeats." "I come from South Africa, I represent my culture," she concluded.
For people who dont likr the performance or who said the act wasnt enough or abit feeling off. As support and the guy who likes music. The performance is better enough to rank at first place with a lot of views (meaning every penny go to Usa company) if think of business wise WMA should be honestly and fair for competition that would drive the music industry worldwide competing to win but to do like now blocking artist from outside your country it show how music industry of your country is so sick and will reflect of all your trophy in the past. All of this show reasons why nobody watch kind of this events anymore that show the WMA youtube view were so low despite attendant faking cheering in concert. Keep doing this willl dig a hole for WMA
This award is the biggest slap on the face for her , this is worse than not getting any award at all. The reason being ,the main goal of Lisa for releasing full English songs was to branch out of her kpop image and be the global star . But this award single-handedly crushed that entire purpose. If I was her I would have not even accepted that award . Like this one award defeats the whole purpose of these songs.
@bruhbro-zg7gh She debuted with LALISA. She had her solo career for a while. Her song MONEY went viral worldwide and her song LALISA went viral in kpop. Being visible in two industries should count her as a global artist.
A much needed video seriously there isn't much we can do about categorization among western but within kpop, lisa is a kpop idol and she will be recognized as a kpop idol. let's not forget how many of us got into kpop just because of lisa.
i have been talking about the idols being box out bc of the way they look for ever but every time i say it people just said im just a dumb army who wants bts to have everything and they are fine with what they have but these people dont even know when their favs get more popular they are going to faced that too so for once we need to all come together and stop this.
This is what they get wrong just because someone used to be categorized as something doesn't mean it has to define your future and nationality has no were to define someones career so everyone single person should be at least noticed
I believe in the application process to be considered for nomination the artist(team) submit for the category they choose. So it was Lisa who applied to be considered for which ever category nomination. That original application component always stumps fans. Like a good song doesn’t get nominated and a mediocre song does. It’s the artist choice.
Actually the award doesnt make sense bc rockstar wasnt marketed as kpop song😂 It was marketed as western song since shes transitioning to global market.
Lisa's solo songs might have aimed for a main stream, but she still had been put nomination in kpop category anyway. But I guessed Lisa can wait patiently and embrace what ever she might have got with welcome for years to come until she absolutely parted from kpop. Or she might never want that because she had grown from kpop and she always feel greatful to her fanbase there, we'll see. I wonder if Lisa directly signed to RCA records, whether she would have been categorized in other category or still be kpop. It's amazing and very courage for a little woman to chose the more difficult way to grow in music industry by set up her own agency. And that agency LLOUD is also needs further strength, more experience in music and performing production, way more in professional work, plus a strong partner. Whatever in the future she will become, I am still proud of this woman, Lalisa Manoban.
I think LISA signing w nonkpop labels is what makes it feel weird. If she were still with K-pop label and managed by a K-pop label then she would be a K-pop artist. Simple: no matter race, ethnicity, language etc That goes the same with Latin, African, Japanese, Russian, British etc artist. If any artist then signs with an American label then they would be American artist and should be able to be in general American categories. What is wrong is the vma is trying to include non American labels (into their award ceremonies). And stereotype “Latin pop” or “K-pop” or whatever have you. 🤢 If the Grammys were fair it would include a world wide scale and not pivot to only American artist. But they’re not bc it’s rigged and bought .
No, I'm sorry, but a full English song is not K-pop. I believe calling "Rockstar" a K-pop song and its win for best K-pop song is laughable. Before you say I hate Lisa, this has nothing to do with her and everything to do with American award shows. How are they going to classify a FULL ENGLISH SONG AS K-POP? That's so disrespectful. What you are saying is that we only accept K-pop if it's sung in English. This is not okay. No, is not racist. However, I think this is exactly what America wants: for the whole world to follow its culture, standards, and rules, which I believe is quite disturbing and disgusting. What this is saying to me is follow our rules or you can't sit with us at the same table.
Your comment made me realize that my statements might not have been clear. The first part of the video is my criticism of putting Rockstar in the K-pop category, where it doesn’t belong. The second part focuses on how netizens want Lisa to stop identifying as a K-pop idol.
@@chuuislovechuuislife No they are not k-pop. K in kpop stands for korean so korean language has to be there for it to be k-pop. Full english songs are not K-pop.

I think LISA signing w nonkpop labels is what makes it feel weird. If she were still with K-pop label and managed by a K-pop label then she nobody would question it. Her own company lloud is also US based
Label is not Korean, she’s not Korean and she’s not singing Korean so why is it K-pop? Kpop means Korean Pop so what part of it was Korean? Taylor Swift started of as country but now does pop and she is in pop categories, not country so it doesn’t matter Lisa started off in Kpop group. She no longer sings in Korean and the music category should reflect that.
I really liked Lisa's song "New Woman." While I wasn't a huge fan of "Rockstar," it was still good. I don't believe Lisa aimed for K-pop recognition; she was striving for global stardom, which she achieved quite well with "New Woman." I hoped Lisa would receive nominations and awards, but I expected her songs to be nominated in the Pop category rather than K-pop, since neither song contains any Korean lyrics. Therefore, how can they be considered K-pop?
For me the performance didnt stood out because i was so highly anticipated to see lisa and Rosaliá performing together. I was shocked that didnt happen. I wished she did the pre-breakdance in solo just like in the mv. And the camera almost too close like in mv to give a fresh transition. Then the breakdance happend, repetive but they danced well and thr camera went too far away lol. Though the camerawork on new woman was impressive, it wasnt good on rockstar. Too many dancers, too many flames and no close up of lisa.
She shouldn’t even got an award. She can dance but she can’t sing. Get real! She only got the award because she showed up. Jungkook’s song, Seven, is more successful than her song and great voice (both English) and the other Kpop were snob who deserved the award.
Yk BTS has the most amount of VMA's in the k-pop , so they also got it just because they showed up right . Well if the awards are supposed to give like this , it would be for everybody
And about Jungkook he definitely deserved it , so why didn't his fandom vote for him and his song released last year , why didn't he win the best k-pop last year
