If you read the comments section: A huge thank you from Suffolk, your content has been instrumental in helping me train my now 21 month old Lab, from 7 weeks to today - a big day, her first day on the peg with me as a working gun dog. She was superb in every department, a lot is down to breeding & we have much more to do. But she already has a great foundation & that is in no small part due to the immense amount of knowledge & practical advise that you so gererously share on your channel.

So good to hear those comments about resource guarding. I’m not sure what’s happened in the time since we trained our 14 year old spaniel but with our new pup all the trainers now seem to have this soft approach with treats for everything. Pups need to consistently see that they are at the bottom of the pack. No aggressive behaviour will be tolerated.

Hi Charlie, do you/ any of the team have GSP/GWP/English Pointers in at the moment? Would be good to see the key differences in training, if any, compared to cocker/labs.

A question regarding retrieving, my 19month old lab is pretty steady and super keen to run out for the retrieve but once she picks it up she runs around with it and doesn’t want to give it back. I use the standard green and the plastic water dummies, she’s the same with both although much better with a ball.
What would you suggest we work on to help address this, it’s driving me crazy. Thanks for the great videos and super tips 😊

Really interesting, my springer resource guards on the bed. Had one trainer suggest using different commands that he knows well like Sit or Search, it works to snap him out of it but it seems like it’s a reward for bad behaviour. I read a book about resource guarding a lot of that type of behaviour suggest the dogs mind set is in a take it or leave it e.g take it they’re self regulating and only get things they’re told to take vs “leave it” where the owner has to manage the dog and tell them constantly to leave it. I’ve found that switching my spaniel to a different mindset where he has to wait or be told he can take it, he’s become a lot better, he’s self managing and a lot calmer…as a spaniel can be 😂

what if your dog doesn’t go off and play by himself what command do you use to send the dog off to play? And Frodo is doing really well

Any ideas how to stop a well bred/healthy twelve month old lab from trying to eat her kennel? She’s in the house when we are home then out at night and through the day possibly four days a week, she’s kenneled on her own? Any ideas I’ve had spaniels previously and never had a problem chewing once past the teething stage?

If your dog had a bone for example and was resource guarding. Would you suggest removing it, giving it back, removing it giving it back, removing it as long as it takes until the dog learns? Even if the dog is snappy with you. Obviously with the gloves on lol

      Yes
But I would make sure the dog was being trained as well!
