In this video I'm going over the history of all the AFL Theme Songs and i will be listening to not only the old songs but the origin of where the songs came from
The clubs had songs back in the 50's, but only Richmond, St. Kilda and Essendon are on RUclips. Richmond originally used the tune "Waltzing Matilda" and St. Kilda used "I do like to be beside the Seaside". The Brisbane Bears had a song in their last few years called "Brisbane Bears will live forever". People have been trying to find it for years but still found nothing. The best we have is a live concert version of the song

Brisbane's was originally Fitzroy's, but originally originally the French national athem. The Bears had at least one song too. Carlton - not sure, but it’s an old ballad. Collingwood's was Goodbye Dolly Grey, a ballad from the US Civil War. Essendon's was a US Air Force song from WWII. Footscray was Sons Of The Sea, which I think was a British Navy song. Fremantle's is an original composition. But before the current one they had We Are We Are Freo, to the tune of Queen's We Will Rock You. Geelong... Can't think of the name but it's from an opera. For a few seasons they had We Are The Cats. Gold Coast... I DON'T THINK I EVER HEARD THEIR SONG. Giant's is an original composition. Hawthorn is Yankee Doodle Dandy Melbourne: A substantial re-working of Auld Lang Syne North Melbourne. I know all the words, but don't if the tune is older. It might be original Port: An original composition? Richmond: it's a war song from British India (the historical colony, not the band). Saint Kilda: From the New Orleans area, late 19th Century. Sydney: the Anthem for Notre Dame university in America. Also South Melbourne's old song. For a time they had Up There Cazaly. West Coast: an original tune. I have no idea if University had a song or not.

The Collingwood theme song was as it is now, but in the 1980s they changed it to There is only one team we favour, as they considered that the premiership was no longer a 'cakewalk'. After the 1990 Premiership, they changed it back to Oh, The Premierships a Cakewalk' and since then, including that one, we have won 2 more. Good Old Collingwood Forever.

To be completely honest with ya I am a Carlton Fan ( Go Blues ) but our theme song is very rusty and old and I think it needs freshening up. I like it but I want something modern and to be strait even more just a Better song. I hope the CFC see this comment and take it into consideration please...
If the Cats’ song was Freo’s, I think the “Freo Heave Ho” or whatever would be “Geelong, real strong” or something like that, but definitely the Geelong and strong cause they rhyme. Why does Fremantle have to have an amazing song? I’m not saying that Geelong’s one is bad but if I were at a Geelong vs Fremantle game, I’d sing the freo song in my head and it will never come out, it’s so catchy!
It's very funny as an American hearing how many of these are based on patriotic songs like "Yankee Doodle Dandy" or "You're a Grand Old Flag." Over here, those songs are very stereotypically associated with things like the 4th of July and college marching bands.
