Brings an oar to a sword fight and wins. Musashi was the greatest swordsman to ever live. A rather cheesy reenactment, but that music and Musashi's arrival is freaking badass!
I read in his book of five rings he wrote that most duels in those days ended with a mere cut, like your thumb cut off or a calf slice an inch or 2 deep in you- the fight was over basically. Like in chess when grandmasters lose a single piece they forfeit. At that level of skill only takes one opening to be exploited to lose.

TwoFistsOneHalleluja Hayha was a SNIPER; killing from a distance. All I'm saying is I've never heard of anyone top this record in SINGLE combat, with swords, or without, for that matter. I'm not saying anyone is SUPERIOR. Fact is, the greatest of all time at anything were unknowns, monks up in the mountains or lone musicians practicing in their bedrooms. Read up on him though, he's utterly fascinating, and I personally would like to be free to walk down the street with a katana. Who'd wanna fuck with you then, lol?
theScytheofGod Hahya also had about 200 up-close kills with a 9mm Suomi smg within that same 100 day span as the sniper kills (bringing his total kills into the ballpark of 700). Besides, killing from a distance doesn't make it any less impressive when he literally had the entire Russian army combing the woods for him and artillerizing the ever-loving crap out of every square inch of woods they thought he might be in. He was a survivor primarily, but he had way more than his share of direct fights as well.

A sword fight between samurai is like a match of chess... Strategy and precise movements... One wasted or an unnecessary move can cost your life! Those intense fights with ridiculous movements you see only in movies.
otherwise it would be a real duel. In which they would most likely sit and stare at each other for awhile. Some duels ended before a sword was drawn...knowing that the duelist was far superior and forfeiting was actually honorable-- to know you are bested by superior skill before a sword drawn would actual keep the Samurai alive for the Emperor as well. If it was first blood forfeit was acceptable before drawn blades. If it was to the death...if you forfeited that you were to ask permission of the ritual Seppeku to keep your family and clan honor.
Loose translation "If you think you're going to win, why did you throw away your scabbard?" "This sword is useless now. The katana that cut you down, I'll never use it again."
Which may or may not have been what he actually said. I've always liked the version which says Musashi told him that he had already lost the battle. Because why would the winner throw away his scabbard? But Musashi is as much a myth as he was a man. He may not have been the world's greatest swordsman, but he is certainly one of the most famous and well documented swordsmen.
This scene represents what is written in the Eiji Yoshikawa's book. There are rumors that in fact, Musashi won the duel; however, he did not kill Sasaki Kojiro, and after the fight, Kojiro became a Musashi's disciple.
No, Kojiro probably died in this match. He didn't die by the blow tho, he woke up later but was lynched by Musashi's disciples. Also, Musashi actually showed up on time. That is what is most commonly believed among historians, but this version in the video is what Japanese commoners know.
Whoa, wait a minute...wasn't Sasaki killed by a hard side blow in mid motion during his his famous swallow cut move, having a rib broken and driven into a lung?

theScytheofGod Buddist "monks up in the mountains" in China were the very best of the best. Not even Ghengis Khan wanna fuck up whit those guys.
BiohazardCrow Facts.
theScytheofGod Hahya also had about 200 up-close kills with a 9mm Suomi smg within that same 100 day span as the sniper kills (bringing his total kills into the ballpark of 700). Besides, killing from a distance doesn't make it any less impressive when he literally had the entire Russian army combing the woods for him and artillerizing the ever-loving crap out of every square inch of woods they thought he might be in. He was a survivor primarily, but he had way more than his share of direct fights as well.
Hey, the saivor of France

A sword fight between samurai is like a match of chess... Strategy and precise movements... One wasted or an unnecessary move can cost your life! Those intense fights with ridiculous movements you see only in movies.
By trowing hes scabbard Kojiro already lost.

Why,in most samurai duels I've seen involving vast scenery, do they run in parallel to each other for awhile?
otherwise it would be a real duel.
Vital Sequence no, just simply no they where not, Bushido is a completely 19th and 20th century term and idea.
Samurai Warriors 2 / Ryuu Ga Gotoku Kenzan Brought me here.
Loose translation
"If you think you're going to win, why did you throw away your scabbard?"
"This sword is useless now.

You under estimate my power!
Dont try it!

Why do i hear "Something Memorable" playing in the background?
lol
Lol that is an axe handle from home depot. Seriously.
Actually, that's what Musashi used to win the fight. Also, it's originally the rod of an oar.
I know the story. He whittled down an oar. But that is a handle from the hardware store lol
It looks a bit too long to be an axe handle. It has the shape but you definitely won't find that size at home depot.
Jack Malletson
Jack Malletson its what they sell at the home center in Japan. but you're right, its probably a pick handle
Espetacular !!!
