This is one of my favorite topics to discuss in TLOS! Golems have actually always been around, they just looked different in the first two games. They probably had a different origin of creation compared to the Destroyer and the Catacombs Golem, but they were still Golems. The ones I'm referring to are the Stone Sentinel and Arborik, mini bosses that were also composed of pieces from the earth. They were more like angered Guardians than bringers of doom, which would explain why they are so different from the Golems of the third game.
I have a strong theory/headcanon regarding Golems in general, how they exist and why.
Ignitus claimed that "when a dragon dies, they don't truly leave the world. Their spirit lives on, *binding itself with nature,* offering hope for the future."
The term "binding oneself with nature" deeply intrigued me. When a dragon becomes one with the earth, they understandably have the ability to continue aiding the living.
Also, take Spirit Gems into account: A gift from the Ancestors, the Dragon's life force.
Spirit Gems are containers of pure magic and life... But, what about their counterpart? The Dark Gems? Containers of pure evil that give off constant malicious whispers?
Here's my big theory: *Dragons with restless souls that are contaminated with vengeance or evil, merge with the earth to arise as the ancient Golems of the deep.*
It makes sense because the Golems are powered with Dark Gems, the polar opposites of Spirit Gems. Think about it. 👀

      @@loreofthedragon Thank ye 💪 🧠
Also, what if Golems are mainly the product of multiple restless dragon spirits? Hundreds? Thousands? A raging mass of uncontrolled anger that only a Master of Darkness could command and manipulate?
It's fun to think that there might be Golems out there who are driven by a sense of Vengeance rather than Malice. Dragons who fought and died in a war they wanted so badly to win, that even in death they can't find peace.

@@loreofthedragon yeah unfortunately them being sacrificed is a fate they’d get scientifically Spyro physically wouldn’t be able to pull cynder free. He would easily have been eaten and destroyed and MALFOR would win and destroy the world. It’s not my fault the quick time events especially the success buttons ARN’T realistic. Spyro would have realistically been devoured in the catacombs. So no such a fate would become of them. By science and biology. He’s 15 and a massive golem that weighs thousands of pounds of pure rocks he’s not gonna budge it at all. The plot armor and plot holes are insane and ridiculous.XD HAIL MALFOR

Yeah but too bad realistically Spyro would have been eaten and destroyed. Muhahaha physically and scientifically and biologically he wouldn’t be able to free cynder so that’s their true fate. Spyro and cynder are nothing but golem chow and the dark master will win.

I think the huge crystal at the center of the planet has something to do with the Golems. If we see aether as nature's prismatic oversoul of an element, and the purple gems having a connection with it, I imagine the latent energies given off by that massive crystal may have created them to keep order in the world. Malefor may have slowly corrupted that crystal over time, bending the golems to his will.

Jared confirmed a Being of Dark, obviously that being made them and it is apparent the Being of Light started the Purple Dragon and Malefor being able to follow the Being of Dark's path is how he has the ability to have them help him since they were clearly waiting for something as important as The Great Cleansing, we've never seen them until DOTD and they had to be lurking underground or something and dormant until such a force like the Dark Being is in the world.

speculative thought: (under the idea of all the spyro series's could be in a timeline) what if some time after the events of the known OG/Reignited spyro's time an event happened in which the realms had to converge & the only way to do that was a mix of the Earthshapers from Fracture Hills & Light Crystals (possibly other things to make it a united effort from the realms) to power an Earthshaper/Golem so large and powerful it could pull all the known realms into one planet with the golem at the core, this could explain how oction names such as avalar became valleys from being realms themselves and then eventually a Malefore comes along fills the light crystals with dark aether making them dark crystals.

I once thought that the legend of the purple dragon (spyro) was made during malefor's younger years and that perhaps hearing about a great purple dragon prophecy urged malefor to acquire more power like the dark elements. And that the guardians also believed malefor was this great dragon of prophecy
Just my headcannon of course though

I was surprised that Malefor never used the Prophecy as his justification for what he was doing. It fits perfectly with his plan.
He just wants the world to change, to evolve. The difference between him and Spyro is that Malefor wants this change to happen his way, even if he has to force it to happen, while Spyro just lets it happen.
I wonder if, like some Mad Titan, Malefor believes that this 'Great Cleansing' is inevitable, that Fate chose him to be this bringer of change. It would fit into the hemes of Choice and Destiny that TLoS had. :/

  • @samaron8970

Perhapse Malefor did use them during the war, but maybe more for scorched earth campaigns, clearly they're difficult to control otherwise Malefor wouldn't be the only one able to do it, and they must take a great deal of power to summon since it took Malefor three years to reserect The Destroyer once he was freed, so it's entirely possible that Malefor would only use them in very serious situations where cajualties weren't a problem. It's one thing to set a giant monster loose ampungst an army of mundless Grublins, it's another to do it with an army of apes that could rebel if he was too careless with their lives.

Malefor believe he will change the world, by destroying the old and remake it as his image.
The Great Cleansing was his master plan involved summoning gigantic golems from the deep, along with the Destroyer.

I have a theory that the golems are like the white blood cells of the planet only coming out to protect the planet but malefor corupted them making them attack everyone that's why malefor remains in his lair because only place he can control them or the golems would attack him as well?
