The Speed5 Jumps better, higher Topend, goes better Upwind, flys faster and feels more sporty. The Matrixx feels smother, turns tighter and and beacause its lighter it keeps flying longer in ultra lighwinds. Tough the Speed gets you ride earlier because with it`s fast flying speed. It can generate more power by moving it. The Matrixx handles collapses easier than the Speed. So overall its the more beginner friendly kite. The Speed feels more sporty.
I have not tried either of these kites on hydrofoil, but I do know that the Matrixx 3 was designed specifically for foiling. Attributes that make it good for foiling are that It stays very controllable in light winds, has a fast turn rate with excellent stability anywhere in the wind window, so you can place the kite quickly where ever you need it, and it will stay there. The kite is also faster than the previous Matrixx kites so that it accelerates nicely in foiling conditions. I can see the benefits the Matrixx3 has has for hydrofoiling after riding it. The fast turn allows you to do some quick sines to get your initial power, and it also drifts well through jibes. The kite will stay airborne and controllable in winds too light for twin tip riding, but with a foil you would be up and going. The Speed might produce a little more raw power per given size, but this is less critical on foils. Hope that helps.
