I have a drone now, but when I travelled from France to Norway, I didn't, unfortunately. But I must also confess, that at that time, I was occupied by so many planning and other considerations, that I wouldn't have had the time or power to think of flying my drone too. I certainly agree, that I should have had :-)
Local sailors do often traverse the Corryvreckan, however, it is very dependent on conditions. Slack water is the only recommended time when it is safe to traverse. Sailing to Oban though the most direct route is the one you followed.
I was informed, that locals can sail Corryveckan, but I was also advised, that as a stranger, it is not worth the risk. As you also mention, the route we took was more direct. Thanks for your addition and comment.
