  • In this brand new edition of The Mark Steyn Show, Mark talks to Lindsay Shepherd, a young Teaching Assistant at Wilfrid Laurier University in Canada who became a cause célèbre across the Internet at the end of 2017, when three members of the faculty attempted to destroy her life for having the temerity to show a short Jordan Peterson public television clip to her students. Miss Shepherd pushed back, with great success, and has since become a popular speaker across North America on issues of freedom of expression.
Here Mark and Lindsay talk about the conflicts between free speech and identity politics, with some unexpected diversions along the way.
The Mark Steyn Show acknowledges the support of members of The Mark Steyn Club. For more on the club, please go to www.steynonlin...

I love watching her stop and think about the question. What a novelty. And I love when she lets a one word answer suffice. May her rise in the public consciousness and popularity not spoil her obvious gift of sight. The SJWs who trained her will certainly regret it as she now knows their arguments better than they do. • @m74d3

Don't take this as an insult to Lindsay, because I'm a big fan, but it's actually the natural state of things to have more courage and be more risk-taking at age 20 than at age 40. Those qualities plummet as you age. Which makes what Jordan Peterson did so impressive, he put everything on the line and risked losing it all in his fifties. Which is way more atypical than doing something like that at age 20, when you're still so young that the world is your oyster

I believe almost all of Western Civilization has been feminized to mathematically certain extinction. The exceptions are USA and Eastern Europe. USA because we have maintained a serious military ethos for so long the rest of Western Civilization thinks it is safe. And Eastern Europe because they know what can happen and know they are not safe.
USA has ten carrier groups, each of which has more war fighting capability then the rest of the entire planet combined. The men and women of these forces are not to be trifled with.
And I very much like the fact USA has covert forces all across the planet. Why? Live fire exercises. And that's all they amount to. God help anyone who seriously pisses us off.

Her comments are a heinous affront to Gaia and Communism as well as being intolerant hate speech. She has earned a speedy show trial and a predetermined "guilty" sentence, followed by a first-class boxcar ride to the nearest Gulag.
I would just like to emphasize the korrekt sequence of events through which social justice is achieved.
      1. Executed
      2. Found guilty
      3. Given a fair trial.
Too often this sequence is being reversed, which is the opposite of social justice. Without hesitation, we must denounce such occurrences as fascist, racist, and sexist.

We need more Lindsay Shepherds to assert, but until the eruption begins we need to acknowledge her contribution, stand with her on issues, and defend her right, and everyone's right to free speech, free expression, the right to speak our minds even when, and especially when, it may offend someone. Lindsay is quite clear, courageous, and a balanced critical thinker. Her observations about gender and her own beauty privilege are right on. Very smart person. Worth watching her career into the future.

Ms Shepherd is an extremely powerful person. I can imagine that when she was a seven year old her mom and dad had quite a challenge on their hands. Lindsay took an inquisition and turned it back on her inquisitors. WHOA!

What everyone saw was how brave Lindsay is. Very, very clever and very reasonable, but most of all very brave to stand against the whole university at her age. It really highlights - what use is being clever if you are not brave?

she could relax a little, but this speaks to her personality, it shows she is very proper, metered, and is very cautious but knows what she believes, and she knows when she smells BS, she cant be bullied as soft spoken as she is

Lindsay is brave smart and can hold her own.. she is not deterred by what has been brought against her (in fact she has thrived under the pressure) and she really gives me hope for a future in which she will take part in.. I might be a conservative but i really do enjoy her classic liberal viewpoint..

The basis of those proposing the illegitimacy of individual rights is Section 15 (2) of the Charter of Rights:
    15. (1) Every individual is equal before and under the law and has the right to the equal protection and equal benefit of the law without discrimination and, in particular, without discrimination based on race, national or ethnic origin, colour, religion, sex, age or mental or physical disability.
    (2) Subsection (1) does not preclude any law, program or activity that has as its object the amelioration of conditions of disadvantaged individuals or groups including those that are disadvantaged because of race, national or ethnic origin, colour, religion, sex, age or mental or physical disability.
The pertinent phrase supporting the denial of the exercise of rights is: "does not preclude any law, program or activity that has as its object the amelioration of conditions of disadvantaged individuals or groups". This means that whatever the rights granted by the Charter, they can be denied by "any law, program or activity" based on what the government or human rights councils decide is a "disadvantage".
Thus, the repudiation of free speech is perfectly logical and necessary "to ameliorate the conditions of disadvantaged individuals or groups".
This section was written by the feminist advisors to those who produced the Charter. It was included to support, as a supreme law, the concept of affirmative action. That is, the power to discriminate against any person or group in favour of any other person or group they deemed "disadvantaged".
I opposed this section when it was first drafted, arguing that it was a totalitarian device that would lead to the overthrow of individual rights, the crushing of free speech, and the persecution of innocents.
I emigrated to the US a few years after the Charter was imposed precisely because I saw my fears being realised. That was 26 years ago. People who argue that the current problem is a new phenomenon have not been paying attention.
