One of the best, most informative accounts that I've found on RUclips. Many thanks!

Simon, this was great. I am scheduled to have valve replacement at the end of this month. I don’t know yet whether it’s going to be with a catheter or open chest however, in either case these videos have been great thank you.

How was the recovery of the sternum? Did they wire you shut or use another method. I’m wondering how long you were on pain meds?

      Hey, I was wired shut.
The recovery from the sternum was ok, not as bad as I thought, just took it easy for the 6 week period, but truth be told, I did a bit more from week 5. It was actually the muscle in the right pectoral that 'hurt' the most, it was uncomfortable and often ached long past the 6 week sternum healing period.
As for pain meds I was off pain meds when I went back to the general ward. So about 4 days post op.
