- Last year a knife or blade was used in a crime every 16 minutes, somewhere in the UK. There were 2,300 victims of knife crime aged 18 or younger last year, records show - a rise of 45% over three years, in England and Wales. The Home Office says knife crime remains below levels in 2010 but it recognises there is more to be done. The BBC's Ed Thomas meets people who say they carry knives every day.

“I’d rather get stabbed than run” - someone who has never been stabbed and is controlled by other people’s opinions rather than his own
It's very easy to oversimplify a person. I'm not from the UK but I was raised by criminals and thugs and it's about how they see themselves as well not necessarily others. They believe it to be cowardice and they don't want to see themselves as a coward. Is they cared about the opinions of others they wouldn't do what they do. These people I described exist just as much as the ones you described. People are more complex than the stereotypes of them you've created in your head.
Or you do not know what you’re on about. If you run, most of the time you get caught anyway. Better for him to stay and be able to defend himself better than getting a knife sliced down the back of your head.
Also, these types of people don’t want to be known as someone who runs away, that’s why he would stay.
@@gh0rochi363 I think we can safely say that stabbing someone over what they've said on social media if "caring about the opinions of others". They're just terrible people.

Pretty great actually, gun homicides are just a fraction of what they were 15 years ago and knife crime is down too.
Violent crime is way up, and knife crime is up. Gun crime is down, mostly because of the reporting, ie, a shooting with multiple victims is called "one" shooting.

For report that is meant to be regarding a national issue it's nevertheless been focussed and titled 'liverpool' whilst making no comment on the fact the city has the lowest metropolitan city crime rate in the U.K.? Would it perhaps have made more sense to do the report outside their studio door in Salford?

Michael McDonough Basically, the BBC wanted to doa report on knife crime but cover the problem where it genuinely lies (London) would be to accept that it's heavily gang related with most of it being black on black. This is why they chose to cover it in Liverpool mate. Trust me, I recently moved out of London after living there since 1980 and the situation there is really bad.
I think the point is being missed slightly....although Liverpool was featured in the documentary, In the intro it say the story is Nationwide and could be told in many other cities across the UK. If all the documentaries are based in London then people are more likely to believe falsely that it only happens in London. I 've seen another documentary where Nottingham was featured. What is being highlighted is that knife crime is a UK-wide issue.

Me: *Whips out the Viking War Axe* VALHALLA MOTHERFKER!
"can we see what you're carrying now"
*pulls out wakizashi*
It must be said though, that the knives aren't the problem.
The situation in which these kids drafted into is the problem.
The British Government should stop banning all knives but rather try to find a solution to improve the quality of life...and also to offer help to kids who already are in this situation.
Stop it, you're making too much sense! 😂 The Brits need to accept that lack of opportunity is the underlying problem. If they could successfully prohibit knives, we'd next be hearing about "lead pipe crime", or bowling pin bludgeoning sprees. Then the solution would be for plumbers and bowlers to register their tools
It is also worth saying that knives are the easiest weapon to manufacture, so you can never fully ban them. Here’s the reality, anything and everything can be sharpened down into a knife like object. Hell, they do it in prison with toothbrushes, spoons, and even soap. If you cannot prevent the creation of shanks in prison, then you cannot prevent shanks in the real world.

Smuggling guns is extremely difficult in Britain and even the very few criminals that have guns are armed with shitty WW2 guns and are no match for our police force. Plus, if criminals try to mug you and guns are legal, they'll do it with surprise and put a gun to your head. You pull out a gun and you're dead. When criminals are armed with knives you can run away without fear of being gunned down.
@@beanburger5689 I know that. Guns are more expensive cos they're in such short supply and there's are high level of risk associated with them. If you were a dealer, you might as well keep a fat knife in your bando for protection rather than splash out big on a gun cos if you're found with a gun the minimum penalty is more severe than if you're caught with a weed/MDMA/acid stash with intent, especially if that gun has been used. Guns are for melts anyway.
Fair play to the BBC reporter true bravery
now I am scared for my brother. he’s only eleven but as he grows older I want to keep him away from this
Don’t let him go to the public schools they are filled with people like this if I have kids they’re being home schooled
@@Kaiyats easier said than done tho. Also depends on the areas U live in. Public schools ain't too bad. Seen a lad with a knife but usually it gets delt with fast. I wouldn't be too worried tho

@@nmsrain8201 i agree with you when you say thats easier said than done that's entirely true. However i think they should be worried, its amazing how many knives were in my school that the teachers wouldn't even be aware about and the school for alot is literally a trading ground among some of the most confused and vulnerable kids of, possibility, our lifetime.
@@72tacos I would believe you if you didn’t have a fortnite pfp (oh and just because you watched Lego ninjago doesn’t mean you have a black belt)
honestly cant imagine the thought of stabbing someone and the psychological thought process of that.... and also being on the receiving end of being stabbed, absolutely terrible
I agree, it's barbaric that this shit keeps going on. The cycle of violence doesn't finish and it's just sickening.
Random kid : “ayo give me your cash”
Him : **gets out a f**king samuria sword**
They are gonna more like
"Oi, Mate! Gonna gimme ya cash arent ya?"
"I carry a knife around"

Me: So he cant tell the difference between a knife and a very short katanna?
2:47 eeeeeeekk man that made me cringe, I can't imagine hiding a knife like that. 😬
BBC: In America people carry around dangerous guns.
BBC: In the uk: "Hey slashing people's faces open isn't nice
Well yeah getting chibbed kinda sucks
this guy is has balls of steel to tell these people that their actions are unacceptable
Those kids don't go around just stabbing people because they have Swords and want to hurt people who told them off, it's literally for self protection. The news guy knows this but is stuck in the "self defense is evil" narrative everybody in power over in England has.
Well, he's not threatening them, he's far too old to be a gang member and he ain't from liverpool. There's protection that the TV camera offers the reporter.
this is genuenly terrifying and so depressing. It needs to stop ASAP.
