It's so hard to adapt a more minimalist lifestyle at home since it's so cluttered, but thankfully my parents have given me full permission to declutter my room. That's the most minimalist and it should be since I do spend a lot of time in there resting and filming videos. Hopefully once I move out I'll be able to adapt even more aspects of a minimal lifestyle.
+Laura Neuzeth same with me my room is full of black, greys and white, my mum was weirded out by me having everything the same colour (even my clothes) until she saw the finish look!! cant wait to move out haha my little brother kept saying he felt calm and sleepy when he went into my room... lol idek if its a compliment XD
Wer My mom was weirded out by my room too. 😂 She thought it looked too plain until I showed her the end result. I still can't wait to move out though so I can have everything the way I like it.
+Laura Neuzeth I've done the same! But in my family, my moms a hoarder so the house compared to my room is like a junk yard. Its hard living in a cluttered house sometimes.
Thanks miss! And I will get back to your email ASAP :) my inbox has been going mental lately with our online fitness challenge starting in a couple of days haha
This was the exact video I was waiting for :) I recently had some sort of life changeing mindset, and started my "journey to minimalism" about two weeks or more ago, and have had alot of success! I even helped a woman and her daughter who was leaving an abusive relationship with alot of her household needs etc and filled her vehicle up ! It felt so good and was so easy to lose attachment to things when I know it is helping someone in need/who needs it more then me and bring a smile to their face. & I will never forget her desperate face and appreciative hug and thankful tone of her voice ! My husband's wardrobe is 3-4x larger than mine now that I have decluttered to the extreme and he had no problem going thru his stuff after he seen what an impact it made for me to go thru mine! Allready , with two kids and a husband under the same roof, life is becoming so much easier and my anxiety is not nearly as bad as it was before! :) Thanks for all your videos, they are my inspiration for a minimalistic way of living
I am so glad for this video. My family really made me feel bad for getting rid of stuff, but I have no attachment to thing's. I am glad to see and hear someone else is like this.
I've got to the point where I just 'like' your videos before I've even watched them, you are that consistent with the quality and information in your posts😊🙌🏻 love the pretty background, did you say you DIY'd it?! 😍👏🏻 I'm the hoarder and my boyfriend is the one that wants more minimalist living, I have wanted to for ages but hard to know where to get started when you become emotionally attached to everything! Lol. Will definitely do your 30 day challenge! Xxx
Aw thankyou!! Haha yes I made the background by threading the flowers through the fencing, I'm working on some behind the scenes videos and this background will be in the first one :) I hope you guys come to a happy understanding about your possessions 💗
Thanks so much for this video Rachel! My husband and I have always hated clutter and thought a lot before purchasing things, but since watching your videos I have taken a hard look at what we own and gotten rid of a lot. It feels so good and I really appreciate your tips and advise to simplify my life. Keep up the good work!
I would love another 30 day challenge! I did your last one awhile ago and, honestly, it's changed my life! I am a lot more organised, having less physical and digital clutter has reduced a lot of stress. Starting my journey to minimalism has also helped with my anxiety heaps. Thank you so much Rachel for all your time and effort put into these videos, much love to you!
LOVE your minimalism series! I've started becoming one, but slowly since I'll be living at home until next school year. Yesterday I culled my entire closet; I had an immense amount of clothes, so much that i couldn't close my closet. Now it looks really organised and clean. I'm donating 6 piles of clothes, I kept 2 piles, 1 of which is in my closet and the other pile is in a box stored until i lose the weight i had gained, because i can't fit in them anymore. Waking up and having my closet culled was awesome! Felt really really nice :) Next up: my desk...
These are great tips! It's been a issue for me as I start my new adventure of downsizing and de-cluttering because I have my fiancé and our kids. Just removed 3 huge bags of stuff out of my sons room. He's pretty much on board because he enjoys a neat spacious living space.
Omg Rachel your couch is the most amazing this I have ever seen! Haha great video! I loved what you said about not forcing views onto people. It's super relevant especially having a fitness channel and the many views on diets! X
This is an amazing series Rachel! I completely agree with the idea of not pressuring someone into your lifestyle in this type of situation and in others as well. It won't do any good. Thanks for sharing 💕
You mentioned having children at the beginning of this video - which I do, and I feel that your videos help even more because I feel it's raising them to realize it's not about how many possessions we have that matters, but it's about the love that surrounds us. So thanks for being kick ass and making videos that rock & help us live a happier life!
So glad you did this video! I have wondered about the minimalist and non-minimalist living together and how to make it work. Your video is the first that I've seen that addresses it. I also liked that you said everyone needs a space for themselves, even if it's just a desk, etc. I recently set-up my own workspace in the corner of our living room. I have a desk, a chair and a file cabinet that I chose and is mine only. I enjoy the space so much and it makes me happy and relaxed:)
This is one of the best and most helpful videos I have seen on your channel. I have just started implementing more minimalist approaches into my life and I love and. At the same time I do not want my husband to feel overwhelmed or pushed. Your video helped me a lot to mentally organize my process and include him in a loving and caring way. Thank you very much!!!!! :)
I've only recently discovered your channel but honestly I'm so hooked lmao! Your videos are so inspirational tbh, it's nice to see another minimalist going on about health and fitness 💗
I am getting so sick of people bashing these sorts of videos saying you're not a true minimalist! As if it is some sort of competition who owns the least. I personally love them and slowly making changes to my space, it's a journey for me and I'm loving the cleaner lifestyle.
This was excellent- I identified strongly with your points. My fiancé is a collector of shoes but we both really value keeping a curated wardrobe. We are shifting our home and spending habits to a minimalist perspective because I've found such calm from the frenzy of everything within the idea of carefully curating ones surroundings and habits.
Wow, your background is gorgeous. From the shots of your living area I never would have thought you didn't live with a minimalist. Thanks for the tips. I am not a minimalist but would love to declutter the hoard of stuff in the house, my hubby of 15 years is of the mindset that we already own it, we have the room for the stuff and it is not bothering anything so we might as well keep it. Arrrgh. We are both well into adulthood and combined two houses worth of stuff when we married.
May 14, 2020 be well be safe. We've been housebound since March 4, 2020. This is day 7 of my 60 day challenge. (second time around... wanted to stay in touch with your videos, Rachel, to get through this strange situation in our global world. Today was to "get started" on the separating out LOVE/BEAUTY/Discard of greeting cards. THANKS FOR YOUR INSIGHTS AND YOUNG WISDOM.
OH MY GOODNESS! this is my 5th day with you and already your CREATIVE CHARM (see your wire and flower backdrop, for example!) is penetrating. Your experiences (like mine) of someone near you with HAT ! collections and SHOES ! in view of my trying to keep only a few of my fav things... and these things ONLY... is quite familiar to me. I'm still on my "newest journey" and am LOVING TO BE HERE with you AND on my road to other horizons. THANKS!
Just found your channel only a week ago and I have now watched almost every video !! Love you and your work :) I would love to see a minimalist series about budgeting and saving money. Keep up the awesome content!!
i love the background! and great tips. im not a minimalist but ive been doing more and more decluttering and try to be more organized and your videos are helping me so much!! love you rachel 💖😊 your smile at the end was just~~ 😍
I live alone now, but I've started talking with my family about starting this journey & I'm definitely going to use these tips when explaining it. Thank you! ☺️
I'm glad that you mentioned the last points. Sometimes your partner/roommates won't have any desire to adapt minimalism, and we have to be okay with that too.
The background is really beautiful. Great tips! I feel like I'm the non-minimalist in my relationship but am trying to declutter a little when we move in the next few weeks so this series is quite helpful xx
I have lived with my now-husband for almost 4 years now and I have always been in the mentality of throwing away at least 1 bin bag of 'stuff' every month or so. You're videos have helped to step that up a notch and I've gotten rid of a looaad of stuff and have a plan for redecoration too! Also, I don't wait to ask if the husband wants these items of clothes want to kept or not... I just get rid! He is yet to have missed anything I have thrown! On the up! Love your videos and your take on things x
faeriesmak no need really. You know literally nothing about my relationship. He actually does know that I throw away things and he has not had a problem with it and TRUSTS me to make those decisions. If he was petty enough to resent me for throwing away Primark t-shirts that no longer fit, we wouldn't be together in the first place.
Please Write the next 30 days! I'm about to start the challenge myself and make a reaction video for your video to show people it works and my journey! iv been excited to get started on it and having another 30 days to look forward to would be the best thing ever! :D Thank you for the series Rachel, your an inspiration. x
I love love love all of your videos and vlogs!! You're such an inspiration and lovely person. Thank you for starting a RUclips channel and sharing your life and opinions with us. You continue to wow me, much love and luck for the future 😊 xx
This is perfect! Last night I had a conversation with my boyfried (who lives with me in a apartment) about Minimalism and he didn´t understand what sense that make and what it is. So your Video is perfekt for my current situation :D!
Rachel! I absolutely love your videos, theyre so inspiring and motivating! Could you do a video on how to tidy up wires/chargers/cords/movies ect? Any hardware or devices really. Would really appreciate it! xoxox
A wonderful video to start my day. it's 8.18am here and it's been snowing and I have just got into uni to complete an assignment! love the flowers! you look amazing as always! have a good day/night Rachel 😃😘
so happy i stumbled across your channel, i find it the most helpful for those who are learning and wanting to live a more minimal lifestyle. thank you!
This is actually really true! I wanted my whole family to become minimalists with me, but I realized I couldn't force them to do that. So, I just kept doing my own thing, and now my mother is starting to downsize, too.
Please make a second 30 days-challenge, it is really useful and helps me a lot to have a clue on how to proceed with my mess and messy life. Thanks and take care :)
I've been trying to cut down on the things I own recently, I have a long way to go but it feels refreshing not having to hold on to those things and find them a space in my life anymore. This video really hit home because I have been nagging my boyfriend to do the same (he's a bit of a hoarder "what if i need it some day?" kind of guy) and he just gets annoyed when I tell him he should throw his things out. I can see now that this clearing out is what I want and what feels good for me and he might not get the same experience from it that I do. I guess I'll leave him be and go find my 'space' :)
I would love it if you did an extra 30 days! I've always enjoyed a lifestyle with no clutter and just the essentials. I just didnt realise that there was a category for that way of living lol. My husband however is the complete opposite and I really had to adjust when we first moved in together. Having seperate sanctuaries definitely helps! :)
I love minimalism!! thanks to u n other youtubers 😇 I am in 6 months and loving it. I saved 500 dollars since I started and w that I took a mini vacation to sf w my cousin from LA ☺
I have been a compulsive purger for YEARS and it is so hard living with a husband (who is a collector) and two small children. They own a "normal" amount of stuff but to me they are total hoarders!! LOL. This video applies to me! thank you and definitely continue the series
i think i consider myself a minimalist...I hate clutter and i don't like having too much stuff around..I love clean empty surfaces but still like a cozy feeling
Hey Rachel, I'm 17 and as a former collector, you've inspired me to switch to minimalism. However, I'm having a hard time with my transition. I still live with my parents and they pay for everything I own so while they're not opposed to me saving money and buying strictly what I need, they don't seem to agree with my decision to get rid of clutter, even in my own bedroom. Some of my stuff (old books, video games) is just shoved on some shelves in the hallway because I don't know how to properly get rid of them. Another good example is my mum, whenever I try to tell her I'm going to throw away my makeup, she's just like: pass it down to me and I'll rid you of it, but she never does. How can I make her understand what I'm really trying to achieve here?
If it's of any use you can always explain that you're trying to give your old belongings a second life in a home where they will be loved as much as you once did.
RACHEL!!! ive been literally going crazy watching your videos because your editing is so beautiful. and ive also tried getting my mom to embrace minimalism but she is SO against it!! as in, she is overly sentimental. even the smallest of objects (like a scrap piece of paper that i wrote my name on it is sentimental to her) and she keeps an entire drawer filled with all the scraps of paper that i have "drawn" on. it is so frustrating because we have almost NO space in the closets due to her attachments to these objects, and i tried talking to her about this last night and all she did was defend herself, and we eventually ended up getting into a fight. ive tried to talk to her about what im trying to do (declutter) and she thinks all i want to do is throw out all her stuff that's important!! it's so difficult for me to keep the house and my room neat because my mom gets angry if i try to throw things out without her permission, but if i do have her permission or if she cleans with me, she manages to find excuses for every silly object and tell me "oh, we might need this in the future" or "this is for memories" and there's still so much junk left!!!! please help!!!!! :( im horribly stressed out, and there is honestly nothing more frustrating than her actions!! :(
cindy that sounds like hording, it's actually a psychological issue. it stems from Much deeper pain or fears in her past. Your mom won't be able to change until she sees a councilor and can recognize the source. It's a deeply hidden fear of loss, or fear of need. it is litterally physically painful for her to let go of something, even though she doesn't really know Why she needs it. That's why she "makes excuses" to keep it. she fights with you becuase making her throw things out gives her the same subconscious feel as if I took all your clothes and threw you outside. I know becuase me Mom and my husband have both delt with hording. my mom from life long poverty and hardships, and my husband from losing his job when the economy tanked and he couldn't find work for years....but once they knew Where the fears came from they are better able to recognize that it's not an actual attachment to the stuff, but a fear of what would happen without it, and can answer that fear with "I don't actually need or can buy more". Fighting with your mom will just make her cling worse. If you can't get her to see a counselor, you can find a hording counselor that can advise You on how deal with her and methods that will actually help her.
Gosh your living room, I really wish I can manage to find a similar flat when I have the chance, it's just the most perfect safe place I can imagine, a mind palace
I've been following you for quite a while now and you're such an inspiration. You seem to have everything under control and your life seems perfect. I bet it's not, but i also bet that you're someone who does everything to make things right. I know I shouldn't be, but I'm quite envious: I've been at home (i'm a student) since august because I've been severely ill and as much as I'd like to achieve some goals, I still literally can't. You help me believe that, as soon as I get better, I will be able to do all the things that I'm dreaming now.. Meanwhile I changed my entire room with white forniture: it's way brighter, and I like it better now. (Sorry if I made mistakes, I'm Italian)
Yeah it's not perfect, but I try to always make things work out for the best and I want to put my best effort into everything I do. I'm excited for what the future has for you, keep that new positive attitude
I think it's funny you added - get rid of unhealthy food - to your 30 day challenge. What does unhealthy food have to do with being a minimalist? I've just moved in with my boyfriend and I brought most of the items in the house - but I certainly need to find a better way to organize my skin care products, since I now have to share a bathroom - any tips on that? He doesn't need much space but he's a bit of a neat freak-type and I want to not just clutter up that space! I have been watching your videos only for about a month or so - so if you've done a video on sharing a bathroom (a very small bathroom) that would be great to know. :)
Healthy body = healthy mind? I also live with my boyfriend and share a bathroom, except it's the opposite! He is a bit messy and I want everything neat and tidy. So I try my best to store everything in one of those over-toilet/overheard cupboards you buy at ikea or Walmart. They are super cheap and also quite nice looking, as well as useful! Having a place to put things out of sight really helps :) I also use some brown baskets, they look nice and are great for storing skin care products! good luck!
You know what i love about your videos? They are short and straight to the point! 💖
I assume it's because minimalistic people don't like rambling as its unnecessary hahah
i agree
Also holy shit your background!!! You're such a creative inspiring person Rachel.
It looks so pretty :)
It's so hard to adapt a more minimalist lifestyle at home since it's so cluttered, but thankfully my parents have given me full permission to declutter my room. Laura Neuzeth well thats weird how our parents are so much alike.. hahah hear, hear! lets get that wish come true soooon for both of us!!
+Laura Neuzeth I've done the same! But in my family, my moms a hoarder so the house compared to my room is like a junk yard. Its hard living in a cluttered house sometimes.
Dakota San I totally understand! My mom is the same way. She keeps everything!
love your compromising and open-minded approach !
also, this is such a beautiful video, love the effort you put into making your videos
I love your channel
Thanks miss! And I will get back to your email ASAP :) my inbox has been going mental lately with our online fitness challenge starting in a couple of days haha
+Rachel Aust wow ? those are all your shoes?! so many
+Go on Adventure I think they belong to her boyfriend, as she says in the begining of the video he colects shoes, hats and basketball jersey :)
+Rachel Aust ooo looking forward to it :)
and how exciting with the fitness challenge !!
An extra 30 days would be awesome! I absolutely love your minimalism series, and it's really helped me minimalist my life so thank you!!! Xxx
I will get working on it 😁
yess please
I am now on the verge of minimalism thanks to you and Coco (from LightbyCoco). Thanks Rachel! Massive inspiration.

the windows in your apartment are amazing!
The last place we lived only had one proper window, so moving here was amazing haha, so much light!

This is one of the best and most helpful videos I have seen on your channel.

Make it a lifelong challenge!! Rachel, I truly live for this series!!!!!
This is the same set up I have with my fiancee. It's nice to be reminded that it is a personal journey and you can't expect others to feel the same.

you are always so pretty, Rachel
I'm glad that you mentioned the last points. Sometimes your partner/roommates won't have any desire to adapt minimalism, and we have to be okay with that too.
I'd love the minimalism challenge 2.0! I'm following the first one now. I've managed to get rid of over half of my clothes and shoes thanks to you!
Amazing!
The background is really beautiful. Great tips! I feel like I'm the non-minimalist in my relationship but am trying to declutter a little when we move in the next few weeks so this series is quite helpful xx

I've got down to a capsule wardrobe and half the amount of shit I used to own thanks to this Rachel! You're such an inspiration ✨
I keep getting better and better at this, but I live with a hoarder that doesn't respect my space. I always end up feeling hopeless at times.
Please Write the next 30 days! I'm about to start the challenge myself and make a reaction video for your video to show people it works and my journey! iv been excited to get started on it and having another 30 days to look forward to would be the best thing ever! :D
Thank you for the series Rachel, your an inspiration. x
Ooh I would love to see your video when you're done!
2 month challenge! Yes please!
Interesting video! I don't like to have a lot of stuff, it makes me feel messy haha.
I love love love all of your videos and vlogs!! You're such an inspiration and lovely person. Thank you for starting a RUclips channel and sharing your life and opinions with us. You continue to wow me, much love and luck for the future 😊 xx

Stayed up to watch this after I saw you post it on snapchat ^.^
Ahhh you're so cute!
+Rachel Aust /life complete
Love this background! No reason to apologize for using it more than once :)
I seriously love your Minimalism Series!!!
A wonderful video to start my day. it's 8.18am here and it's been snowing and I have just got into uni to complete an assignment!
love the flowers! you look amazing as always!
have a good day/night Rachel 😃😘
Thankyou 💗💗 ah I'm a little jealous that you get snow! It's really hot here lately
I would much rather the hot weather! Hehe.
Looking forward to the next video 👍🌹🌷
Awesome video! I'll be suggesting this one to my Mum, who's starting to get into minimalism. Thanks so much :)
Yessss! Please make another 30-Day Challenge! I'm halfway in the current one, and I love it!
This helps a lot, especially when it comes to my big family. You're so humble!
Great video as always! These are great tips for someone who's transitioning into this lifestyle as well!
absolutely loved the video, as always! i adoreee your background!! 💙💘🌸🌸
Thankyou 💗
so happy i stumbled across your channel, i find it the most helpful for those who are learning and wanting to live a more minimal lifestyle. thank you!
Thankyou miss!
2 month challenge please. omg i rewatch your videos like crazy haha
I'm currently on the first minimalism challenge, but I would love another one!
Would love if you did another 30 day challenge. Could you do a video on what you keep in your wardrobe as a minimalist? Thank you !
Yes! I've finally got it culled down to my perfect wardrobe, so I will be doing that soon :)
Loved this video Rachel! My favourite of yours so far xx
Aw thanks gal! I hope you've been well ☺️
I would love it if you did an extra 30 days! I've always enjoyed a lifestyle with no clutter and just the essentials. I just didnt realise that there was a category for that way of living lol. My husband however is the complete opposite and I really had to adjust when we first moved in together. Having seperate sanctuaries definitely helps! :)
Your tips are always so helpful!
This is great thanks! I would love another months worth of a challenge.
I love you so much rachel, you've inspired me in so many ways already even though I just found your channel yesterday!
I love minimalism!! thanks to u n other youtubers 😇 I am in 6 months and loving it. I saved 500 dollars since I started and w that I took a mini vacation to sf w my cousin from LA ☺
Love your videos!! Thank you so much for all the wonderful tips!!
Beautiful background and great tips! Thank you for making an effort and always doing amazing thing!
Thankyouuuuu
I have been a compulsive purger for YEARS and it is so hard living with a husband (who is a collector) and two small children. They own a "normal" amount of stuff but to me they are total hoarders!! LOL. This video applies to me! thank you and definitely continue the series
Yasss thank you, thank you, thank you ! I NEEDED this video in my life.
i think i consider myself a minimalist...I hate clutter and i don't like having too much stuff around..I love clean empty surfaces but still like a cozy feeling
I feel the same way. I still want it to feel like my personality is in the room. If that makes sense...
I love your videos, thank you for making them!
THE LIVINGROOM IS LITTERALY GOALS
Just so you know, you can set your camera's focus to manual so it doesn't make that weird grinding sound, I found that out a while ago :)
YASSSS your challenge sounds great, it will help me alot
YES! Another 30 days!
Thank you so much. This video was so helpful.
Love love love your channel, thank you for the advice :)
Wow. You really proved your worth to society.
Gosh your living room, I really wish I can manage to find a similar flat when I have the chance, it's just the most perfect safe place I can imagine, a mind palace
Would love another 30 day challenge!
yaaaas! challenge please!
Hi Rachel, I love your videos and your personality. You're a smart and inspiring person, I really enjoy your minimalist videos.
Hugs from Sicily :)
Hugs right back from Brisbane!
love love love your videos!
+Rachel Aust I'm excited as well and thank you for replying ☺️
Having a place to put things out of sight really helps :) I also use some brown baskets, they look nice and are great for storing skin care products! good luck!
Cool thanks for the suggestion!
The new background is great!
Yess I needed this video!! Never seen your background so colorful XD
Haha! It was for another video mainly, but I didn't want to waste it
Luckily I'm moving in with somebody who is more minimal than me!! :) I LOVE that background!!!!!!
This video is literally like my life. Living with my boyfriend and his 'Man Cave' lol. Loved the video & you!
Great tips, thank you for sharing!
Your background is gorgeous! And thank you for all the amazing tips..I live with a lot of non minimalist and the struggle is real haha
thank you for this video! it certainly was inspiring!
