I think the main problem is that Vivzie has been working on this story as a concept for years and years, and she was way too set on the concept she had in her head. So instead of making compromises to the story to fit the (surprisingly) short runtime, she tried to jam every plot beat she wanted to hit into only 8 episodes.

Amazon definitely should've given them more episodes for better pacing, but The show is still great, and it's songs are mostly bangers. The fact that this all came from a RUclips pilot 4 years ago is still a great achievement. I hope season 2 gets 12 episodes at least to properly pace the plot and expand on what's been established.

I'm pretty sure Sera and Emily are siblings, not mother and daughter. but yeah, I agree we should've gotten time to know them before they tried to get us invested in their struggles. Hopefully season two will rectify that.
that's my guess, ive seen people speculating both but for me the line "i thought since im older it's my load to shoulder" really reads more like siblings than parent
The most important thing is that the show was a massive success meaning next season will probably get more episodes

I’m sure season 1 was just for the Exorcists plot and they were only allowed 8 episodes to finish it. In season 2 they’ll have to focus on the characters and their progress to better themselves.
Yep! Viv has confirmed that season 2 will give more insight on all the characters backstories and how they ended up in Hell. Sadly, Amazon only greenlit 16 episodes, so season 2 will likely be 8 as well 🥲

I agree with like almost all the takes, but Stayed Gone is an absolute BANGER and I will not hear otherwise
I loved this, as much as i wish there were more than 8 episodes for them to be able to tell more stories.
I liked the show, and now that this video points it out (and Im over the original “omg this show is great” phase”) I can see the issue with the pacing. I hope they have more episodes next time so they can build up the characters better

Episode 4 and the finale I adore. The rest of the episodes I’m all over the place. I respect the hell out of it given the few amount of episodes. I have only one thing to say Season 2 better have a lot of episodes about the Hotel itself.

I feel like Amazon should have gave them more than 8 episodes like between 13 and 26 episodes. That way they could have more time to flush everything out so pacing would not have been so all over the place. I really enjoyed the show and I hope we get more episodes for season two
Yeah i agree with the pacing and such, though as you mentioned they only had 8 episodes and with the lore behind Hazbin/Helluva boss there are some details that were hinted at in Helluva boss that connects to Hazbin. From different overlords, what they do/how the different rings work and what they contribute. Like Carmila for example, she's made angelic weapons in Helluva boss (Striker a villian character has one in Season 1). The show (Helluva boss) also shows a majority of the different Deadly sins, and how the world works. So really you'd need to watch Helluva boss first and then Hazbin, for it helps with context to Hazbin. Also, for some of the cast it's really a fanbase thing, for with Carmila the fan have known about her and a few others for a while now. So while for newcomers, it can be confusing as to who certain characters are, they're still written in a way so that they aren't too complex and only fans who have followed the show would know/understand, but not dumbing the characters down for everyone. So i guess that's my opinion on the characters, plus since this is a show, now that we know them they can be explored a lot more in Season 2 and that we already met the main characters/protagonists, antagonist and villians.
I think I know why it was paced the way it was.
Making a 2d animated musical show, with multiple songs per episode, especially with this art style, takes a LOT of time, resources, and money. So they make the first season 8 episodes to compromise. But then worry the first season won't have much going on to grasp your interest, so they take the originally planned script for season 1, and compress it.
Short to manage what you have to work with, with a lot going on to keep the audience interested and curious.
I'm almost certain the plan is to expand the narrative and story in a 10-12 episode season for season 2, now that season 1 was the success they needed.
I love musicals so I like that you're covering it. I haven't seen it myself, but I've heard what others have said. Cool that you've covered it too. 👍
For me I view the characters in a one piece perspective like when Blackbeard got introduced he was just some rando but now he has 2 devil fruits and is being hyped up to be the main villain
I think since season 1 has ended and they don’t have to worry about extermination they will slow it down
I have my fair share of praises and critiques for this show, but I wanna talk about the one thing I love and hate at the same time. Adam.
Taking everything into account, I should really, REALLY hate Adam. And I do. I simply cannot stand villains who won't shut the fuck up, always mock the heroes and are constantly sucking their own dicks. Adam is entitled, rude, hypocritical, and that's literally everything I hate about a villain.
With that said, he plays it 100% straight and I can't help but respect him for that. I admire just how despicably unlikable he managed to remain throughout the entire show. Not once did he soften up. Okay, he kind of did in his last moments, but it made sense. Also Hell Is Forever is a great villain song.
So in conclusion, I hate how arrogant and cocky Adam is, but I love how dedicated he was to being arrogant and cocky. And let's be real, he could have been a lot worse. Like that one guy in Persona 5.

This show kinda feels like owl house mixed with Hotel Transylvania. Yes I’m well aware Owl house’s story is way different… same with hotel Transylvania
This seems like a series that gets good the second or third season because the startup is just world building and introducing characters. That’s what it seems to me, and I think that’s going to continue in the following season for a while, until they can put their focus elsewhere
I've been a long time fan for Vivizpop from the pilot to Hazbin Hotel to Helluva Boss with it's characters but I'd do think the writing and it's characters of Hazbin Hotel is also Great

As someone who hated the pilot I find the show a lot better cause it doesn’t play up the obnoxiousness like in the pilot. The pacing sucks it’s clear Vivzi wanted to tell more but was only given 8 episodes to do it. However the part that I think it’s the best part are the songs like they’re genuinely fantastic with very few misfires
I have big expectations for other independent animators and their projects like kyoryu,talon,sauria,dinosaur empire,forgotten bloodlines agate,godspeed,lackadaisy,the amazing digital Circus,atlas and the stars and the lovers I hope they can be a success like hazbin hotel

Hazbin is all of viziepop's worst writing traits diluted into a single 8 epiosdes, daddy issues, a breckneck pace, introducing new characters just for the sake of it , quick payoffs over long build ups

Why do you think characters are introduced for no reason? Every character served a purpose this season and will have a definitive role for the future.

I enjoyed the show overall, especially for its characters, songs, and creative takes on Hell and Heaven. But with that said, I'll admit there were too many plot points crammed within this season. I guess having eight episodes probably pressured Vivzie's team to include as much content as they could in case of an early cancellation. Hopefully season 2 will improve on these issues while still maintaining what excelled in the first season.
Also, 'Hell is Forever' and 'Loser, Baby' are my favorite songs here.
You’ve said everything I had initially thought of this show. I honestly enjoy watching it because it’s a cute show that has a unique concept, but the songs felt so out of place and just lifeless. My favorite song was loser baby because it was catchy, passionate, and allowed some true depth between 2 of our main cast characters and grows a bond between them; though, I personally think husk & angel dust should just remain friends. Their bond feels genuine and supportive, but mainly as friends because angel doesn’t need a relationship, he needs a companion/friend that understands him (aka husk)
Love this show! I do agree with the pacing though. I feel like if they were given more episodes or time, much of the writing issues would've been resolved.
What you say about relationships not being shown or developed is so true with charlie and lucifer too! We’re just told charlie has daddy issues, but we dont see it at all before they just make up.
I like to look at the show as a Broadway musical as a whole. Yeah, it feels rushed, but still works out kinda

Vivziepop may have created mind and great visuals but still lack creativity, world building, story telling, lore, and etc. and no difference that her merch shop Is just another cover up excuse to promote her brand (mostly on Helluva Boss) and doesn't matter If pacing feels rush she'll get her money back In the end. I also have a feeling that after helluva boss was overstaying there welcome and lack the same writing of season 1, she still wanted to make up for the original pilot she released 4 years ago but at the same time still didn't want to disappoint the helluva fans and had most of the epsidoes rushed while slowly patching up for hazbin's episodes roster before premiere and had a hard tie juggling back and fourth. another reason; that knowing studios nowadays don't care and are super greedy and disrespectful; Viv herself felt like she won't get another chance to continue on her series for more seasons and that's why everything felt felt too rushed and random characters cramped without proper Introductions.
Studios have always been greedy. They have been known for censorship and making sure everyone fits their standards, it's just that many classic filmmakers called them out on their bullshit. As for Viv, yes, the studios are at fault, but Viv too because she's the director and writer, so, she makes all the decisions and so, it's all on her as well.
BTW, despite Viv's imperfections, I don't see her selling merch as a bad thing. She does need fans to support her in case her stuff is in production hell. Who wouldn't want to try to promote a brand when you want people to see your stuff? Are you saying that she's promoting her brand while she hasn't learned anything about trying to approve and knows that she can make quick bucks by selling her merch? If that's what you're saying, I see what'd you mean.

1. purchase a few screenplay books
or
2. Hire ACTUAL professional writers, then analyze and ask them questions on how to be a good writer so it can help you with your career as a writer.

I decided to watch hazbin hotel and after watching all eight episodes i think hazbin hotel is a good not great but still a good show and i think people are being to hard on hazbin hotel like i don't think hazbin hotel deserves the hate it's getting
sometimes I'd wish they made more episodes of 10 or 13 episodes then just 8 episodes
This show is amazing and defied all expectations, and though your criticisms are valid a still think you should rate this show on what its is and not on what i could be or should have been.

Are we not gonna talk about the fact that there is NO distinction between the Angels and Demons in this show? Seriously, the moment Charlie meets them, specifically Adam, they litterly act, sound and LOOK like demons. What is the point of the show's premise (which is a interesting one) if there is no difference between Heaven and the Underworld in this show?

As a fan of Hazbin Hotel, I respect your opinion and agree that the writing needs fixing with the pacing and story. The first season could have had 12 episodes rather than 8 so we could see the characters interact more and see them grow organically. And tone down the swearing, I get it, they are in hell and it's an adult show but I feel like the swearing gets old over time. But we will see soon if season 2 can improve and give us more Pentious.

Concerning music. For me, Insane was the best song that came from this show. But Hell is Forever came second for me!

Honestly it sadden me that you feel neutral on the Viviepop-Verse it would of been amazing that to see you love it more but I can understand the show feels kinda rush because of the fear of streaming today might be on the block of getting cancelled or that Amazon or A24 didn't give them enough number of episodes to sign on there contract which I think Vivienne had to put them in 1 lump sum but hopefully when Season 2 comes they get more space on there episodes to cook

Please review Godzilla Minus One. It's incredible with its storytelling, and the human characters actually matter to the story and are well written. Easily on par with the 1964 film and Shin Godzilla.

Never watched either of these independent shows but I have something to say about them.
Throughout the 2010s, channels or streaming services that make their own shows are losing more and more respect for their continued business practices where they take other people's hard work, cancels it or worse, shelve it for years on end. And the creator can't do anything about it.
Meanwhile, Vivziepop has the bigger advantage as an independent studio making their own series without the threat of cancellation.
After so many of the shows I watched not only got cancelled, but some of them are not even available to watch ANYWHERE FOR FUCKING TAX WRITE OFFS, I've been fascinated with how blessed the independent studios are. The ones that built everything from the ground up without any input from a comparatively larger studio.
Honestly it's good to this went from an Indie show in 2019 to a supported show by a big company like Prime.
IDK I actually liked that It was fast paced, just like It is irl, I had zero issues with this show what so ever.
I never looked up anything beyond the Pilot and the actual show, dunno maybe I'm special but I loved that pacing

My problem is it's just too short you can't really do much in an 8 episode time span it's not really much you can do with terms of story-wise character development it's just you can't really flush out much of what you want and 8 episode and it was like 10 to 20 episodes I would say yeah you can definitely flush the world out in 8 episodes
I personally didn’t get into the pilot for hazbin hotel, I thought Heluva boss was a lot funnier and better written
I kept up with Helluva Boss for a long time because... it was so close to hooking me. The animation, the music, and the characters I thought were all great, but the writing would always fall a bit short for me. As such, I decided to pass on Hazbin Hotel, but I cannot understate the work Vivziepop gave to get her projects off the ground and producing something of this quality with the limited resources available to her. I'm rooting for this series!
I like the show. I don’t really care about whether it was good or not, I enjoy it, the characters are likeable, and that’s all I need sometimes. One thing I’m bothered about is the appropriation of voodoo though 🤷♂️
I do think one thing most people, fans or not, will have a problem with when it comes to this show IS the pacing. There were only 8 episodes to tell everything, there were too many ideas being implemented all at once, and season 2 wasn’t even guaranteed at first, so of course the pacing suffered for such a show with many ideas like this!
