@@GameGuy667 Good meme. It's better with the new familiar ordering feature and it's knockback/damage. However, the core problem with it and why it was never taken "competitively" was not fixed. It still disconnects your hitbox from your character and makes it lag behind you after you begin moving.

I mean, disconnecting the hitbox is kinda the whole point of the item. That's never gonna change.
You just gotta play around it. Isaac himself blocks tears, and the heart's attack pushes some enemies away. It can be very useful for many bullet-hell patterns.
But yeah, it can still be a run ender, and it isn't great. But it went from "do not grab under basically any circumstances" to
"hol up, with my current build, this item could trivialise lots of endgame bosses. Fuck it, I'll take it" which is a pretty big buff imo.
@@Riku70X Beam attacks/any kind of laser still make you take nearly unavoidable damage though. I took it because of curse of the blind and was surprised that it was actually decent, but my run still ended because of those on Mauso.

It's strange to me that some forms of invincibility, like Suplex, prevent death, but others like White Pony that are conceptually similar don't.

White Pony might just ignore some forms of collision detection, rather than granting the player invincibility. Testing White Pony on Blood Machines or Demon Beggars may reveal the answer.
@@Khrayfish If memory serves you can indeed get a free blood bank play with A Pony if you charge into it. I'm pretty sure that's how it worked in the original Flash isaac but I've never tried it in Rebirth, but Rebirth is very faithful.

I love how, by adding in ways to counteract players trying to avoid the sword dropping, the sword comes off as comically persistent
Leave the room as it falls? It'll just shift over a few inches to kill you
Try to teleport away? The sword's already waiting for you when you get there
Go to the next floor as it falls? The sword chases you through the trapdoor
Save and Quit? The sword pauses itself mid-air and waits until you come back.
Using most forms of invincibility? Sword doesn't care.
Sword wants to stab. Sword WILL stab. the best you can do is hope you're lucky enough to block it through one of the few ways to actually dodge it.
The sword was only using 10% of it's power
*Damocles starts to fall.*
*Player quickly pauses and exits*
Damocles: “Heh. Fool. I can wait here in the air all day.”
*Player continues the run, thinking he dodged Damocles*

Yeah, i know why looking at it simply it would seem amazing, but it's not unusual for the binding of isaac to occasionally not step outside the box with their animation throughout their history... to overly animate at times / overly have bad animation at others - but this is 2021.
I understand the awkward critique as an overall feature with the binding of isaac for over a decade now, as well as Spelunky and any game that's "jumped the shark" - again, times change. I don't particularly like it but art doesn't hold onto the atmosphere of the past.
For example - relative modern songs/music by Timecop1983 and recent Slowdive have an older atmosphere - when atmosphere actually mattered (i.e. the 80s and to a slightly lesser extent the 90s and early 00s, which this episode draws upon). Hard to find that any more.
Also - games like the first Resident Evil used to be a very frightening game experience - themes and atmosphere and skill and talent, not just manipulation and over-bearing the senses which is the modern technique (and it has to be so). Of note - Game of Thrones was done the old fashioned way, just far more oblique and crass.
Anyways - to some degree art has an influence on society - especially other artists or those with artistic inclinations. But society has a far stronger influence on arts - is not the influence of society complete?
For what it's worth I'm not really disagreeing with the statement of Herohalv4- I'm only pointing out factors relevant to the statement.
However - there are several reasons to manifest the proton accelerator with Marzel-lifts. The neuro-encabulator malfunctions is response to seventy of the four now lost to the misgiving of hummanity.
How can someone like me as YOU to have a nice day? But I don't know. I wonder if the future will just fizzle out and die.

Imagine if Host Hat would have an interaction with that. Its skull would break and prevent you from dying. It will occassionally fire 5 shots instead of 3, but would remove the blast resistance in return.

Angel Rooms show up 15% more often at the cost of the same % from devil rooms.
@@cyanideytandcuriousseadogg4160 That's kinda ridiculous to ask achievement hunters, since you need both Damocles and Breath of Life, and then predict in advance when the sword is going to fall, and use breath of life accordingly. Pretty bad achievement
It's outstanding how well programmed Damocles is. Edmund made sure there is no unintended loophole like going to another level.
Well programmed? More like boring. It’s really discouraging to see that this item literally has only one use, and is very specific in its usage.
Idk about the edmund part since this is mostly the antibirth dev team who did it since Ed was barely part of the dev team for repentance as he knew how competent the antibirth team were and the other devs as well
@@Ulqcog At the end of the day Edmund did oversee things and point out things to change like boss attacks so i'd not be surprised if he'd often highlight to make sure there is no unintended interactions, still things like alabaster box being insta charged from bag of crafting slipped through (if it would be intended the recipe would not be as easy as it is) but got patched. I think it's way better to implement things the way dev team envisioned than patch things after release. Imagine if they'd patch half the ways to prevent dying from Damocles cuz they did not think of them beforehand - that would be way more demoralizing than them working as they wanted from the start.

It would be cool if Damocles was hanging over Isaac’s Heart if you had it.
Damocles triggers and you descend to the next floor, going through the "nightmare" sequence to begin the floor and just waking up to the sword hovering above you, waiting patiently.

I feel like there should be a mod where if you're holding an enemy using Suplex when the sword falls, it'll kill the enemy instead of you.
The music is accurate because it portrays the screams of agony syncer had to do waiting for the sword to fall (in some scenarios) in this type of videos

Yup, I think having it impact bosses directly is more of a FF suplex a train type deal.
Kirby bosses tend to ignore grab attacks.
You gotta grab their projectiles.

void + glowing hour glass essentially just gives you more item pedestals with no side effects. (just don't forget to rewind every time you get hit in a room)
if glowing hourglass is used to escape the fall and the room resets(when the falling threat is still present, not reset)will the sword fall after exact same time it fell last time in this exact room? or does it prolong the falling for a random amount of time?
It prolongs, as the drop isn't set for a time, but is calculated every 4 frames new.

@@randomshit6539 But all of the RNG is calculated off of the same seed. Room rewards, pedestals, even the tear effects you fire are all exactly the same when using Glowing Hour Glass.

The lost and Tainted Lost can take full advantage of Damocles they can't be hit by the sword because the first hit they receive already kills them
The one exception being revive-items for both characters.
E.g. Dead Cat for Lost, Or Birthright for T.Lost. (Or Death Certificate revives for T.Lost)

I think teleporting, diffirent rooms, and similar stuff doesn't work because the sword is probably part of Isaac's sprite, and isn't a separate entity.

They died and didn’t get to 12 broken hearts. Damocles like plan C and the Suicide king card ignore hp.

Breath of life isn't completely useless it seems
In this situation it still is. You won't be able to trigger it's effect in time to save you from Damocles. You could keep it constantly on 1 charge, but this will require huge micromanagement, so in this case you woule die from other means.
What happen if we enter to mine/ashpit II's knife piece place when the knife is falling?

If you have glowing hour glass and habit, and enough health, you can ensure that you never take damage. The run will take forever, but you can do it!

Don't know, told this someone or not. Damocles can be get by using Metronome and it doesn't away after leaving current room or even level. Strange, but funny i guess.
Surviving this seems impossible. Imagine focusing all the run on this sword if you have invincibility. But if you have an extra life this is mega op
