Remove the wiper transmission, motor & also the tray (10 mm bolts). Form a section of expanded metal screen to block the Mice from entering the vehicle. Screws with large washers work to hold the screen in place.

There’s only 3 bolts & one plug to remove the blower fan, should some debris fall into the cage.
