      Hey so there’s this small RUclipsr. I don’t know him personally or really at all but I know he’s working on cars and loves barn finds because of you. He is currently working on a 1975 trans am firebird. Before he decided to do RUclips he worked on the car with his father. His father later sadly committed suicide. Even though he doesn’t know me I know his channel and he has my condolences. After the passing of his father he started the RUclips channel and has been working on the car. Even though I don’t really know him I think he deserves more support for what he’s been through. His RUclips channel is named midnightTA. Even though you’ll probably never see this I still thought that I should let you know.

    Fun stereo fact: It's actually very common to have no rear speakers in Sound Quality builds. It is much harder to have a proper sound stage when the audio is also coming from behind you. Subs are fine anywhere basically because bass isn't directional, but speakers actually can worsen the sound quality if the placement isn't good.

    • @macgroober1396

    • @noooooooooooooooooooooooooooo0
      @noooooooooooooooooooooooooooo0 Год назад +6

      @@macgroober1396 Depends on the exact speaker placement really. An SUV with speakers in the rear doors would be more problematic than a sedan or coupe with speakers in the rear deck. It's all about the time it takes for a sound to reach you and the volume it's at when it does. It's a pretty interesting rabbit hole to go down.

      The 4th gens started in the early 90's. As late as 2001 they were talking about changing the looks of the Trans Am because, as then VP Bob Lutz said, "A friend of mine said the Trans Am looks like a school yard bully that wants to take your lunch. It looks too mean." Which shows you how out of touch parts of GM were, but I think GM was always waffling back and forth about the life of the 4th gens.
      During the same talk at the 2001 Grand Prix Gathering, Lutz also said they were going to make an LS1 powered AWD Grand Prix "...because we can." The next year they had the prototype for it...but it never got produced.

Sold that so my wife could get a new SUV for her and the kids and picked up a 1993 Formula that I did a 98+ front end conversion with a WS6 hood and T/A hatch. Snagged a 73 Formula from the original owner and am restoring that with my dad. Still have the 93 and 73. Love these F-Bodies, I will always have at least one in the garage! Alex, the WS6 also came with wider rims/tires. The Ram Air is functional, especially if you live somewhere where there's little rain (I'm in Vegas) and you cut out the rain baffles. Those rain baffles keep the air filter dry by catching the water and sending it out little drain holes. I used a dremel to remove them and you could see my K&N filter through the hood. BTW, the SS and the WS6 hoods are completely different. The SS isn't a straight shot no matter what you do. It's just a fresh air intake. My buddy and I put a vacuum gauge on my airbox after removing the baffles and there was less vacuum in the box at high speeds with the engine at the same rpm and load, according to HP Tuners datalog.

    Good on you for doing this; as a car enthusiast who wrenches on all my cars by myself and a collector, this is exactly what I would have done: backed out all of those nasty, tacky hacks and returned the vehicle to stock condition. If one looks at the Brothers' collection, all their cars are in stock condition, because that's what makes the vehicle valuable. If I were buying a TransAm, the WS6 manual would be the one. Those taillights are so iconic. As for Camaros, I own a 5th generation ZL1, and it's one of the only two or three cars on the European continent that's stock, and I intend to keep it that way. Even the replacement parts like filters are genuine AC Delco, and the oil I use is genuine GM Dexos 2 5W-30, as it states in the specifications. If I ever sell the vehicle in twenty or thirty years, I will have likely ended up recuperating what I paid for it or even turning a profit because it's stock and regularly maintained well, which means that I'm driving and enjoying it gratis right now. And that's the way I like it, driving my cars gratis.

    That thing under hood was a wireless immobilizer for the Directed alarm system. When you armed the alarm it sent a signal to a module that was usually connected to the fuel pump or starter circuit. This way if you were trying to steal the car you couldn’t just trace the disable wire from the alarm directly to a relay that was tapped in somewhere and bypass it how most systems are done.

Rebuilt the engine with forged internals and a bigger cam with home ported heads and intake. Vortech V1-S blower making 7psi. 24x ignition conversion and running on Holley EFI. I rebuilt the trans due to a damaged 3rd gear. In the process of rebuilding the rear axle. Gonna keep this one a LONG time lol. Makes about 600hp at the flywheel.

    I ordered from the dealer a 1979 Firebird Formula, T-Top, in Bright Blue metallic, light blue interior. My first new car, and 2nd car ever. 400 (403? 406?) Olds engine from the factory. First year of the snoot nose, that hood went on forever in front of the windshield. I didn't want the screaming chicken on the hood, so didn't get the TransAm version. But when I got married and we had our son, it had to go, it was totally impractical to put a baby seat in.
    This is a really nice looking car. You did great work on it. I am sure the new owner will love it.

    I would have left the air dam. It looked good with the side skirts. I had one of those Trans-Ams and they were terribly light in the rear end. The speakers and amps added some necessary weight and could have served a purpose as well. I can honestly say I never avoided a car because it had a custom stereo. Saved me the expense and trouble of getting one. Typically factory stereos are sub par.

    Directed is the parent company for Clifford who also own Viper. That battery was most likely for the siren, a backup in case a would be theif disconnected the main battery to shut the alarm up.
    The little black box in the cabin was most probably a tilt sensor to sense if the car is being raised, for example if someone wanted to steal the wheels or tow the car away.
