I'm about to start a masters degree and as it's been 15 years since my BSc, the thought of written assignments has been quite scary. Finding your incredible video on masters writing dos and don'ts has calmed me down completely. Your run-through is so clearly explained and makes 100% sense. Thank you!

I come back to this video for every essay I do for my BSc Hons. It really has upped my grades, I am finally getting a first! I would love to see more examples if you have time to record. It's really beneficial how in depth you go on each example. Thank you so much.

You know great written work come from heart not from head by transforming from abstract idea to literature. When idea go, let it flow like driving car look forward not look at the brake, be enjoy your flowing writing like an artist paint their dream on the canvas to appearance, like the water fall watering from high mountain fall down on the stream .The hard of writing is how to bring the other put in your shoe and they like.Too hope to success, too failure to success.A drop of rain dripping a full jar.

This is really good thank you. Just one question. I have noticed this text doesn’t have footnotes of the critical evaluation. When we evaluate scholars work does our evaluation have to evidenced by a footnote?

When attempting to write on the graduate level...how important are the use of “big” words. I’m trying to work on writing and using increased vocabulary. My writing style very closely mirrors the second example you posted. I just want to write more intellectually.

Georgia 3789 remember clarity is first ... second the fact that interconnectedness of the ideas around one unified idea and then big words . This is how I did .

11:16 - Chartwell (2013) believes that schools suffer as a result of uninformed policy decisions. Miles (2013) adds that while the intention is to boost competition and economic growth, these policy decisions miss the point of education entirely. They trade genuine learning for relentless assessment. Furthermore, the policy makers trade in clarity for confusion by constantly changing these policies.
I don't know what they teach you at school, but I think this is a much clearer way to convey those ideas.

See this is what I don't understand. I look at this stuff and I think, "Do people really write like this? Why is this so bad?"
I think my confusion stems from 2 opposing perspectives: my own, being able to immediately see the issues and quickly come up with what I believe to be a solution, and the second perspective, the people writing pieces like these.
What I don't understand is why there appears to be such a large gap.

Grounding arguments by referencing personal experience is not out of place in the academic context. I want to know why someone is writing on a topic.

Good but I will say this, it would be good if you highlighted the bad and good points rather than talk through the entire video

unfortunately, you never gave any clear example that is ideal for academic writing for level 7 because all the sample was one way or the other not correct according to you.

That’s right, Nwoko! I am trying to teach by showing work that comes close and saying how it falls short, so that my learners are challenged to mend similar issues in their own work. For example, if your paragraphs have too many ideas crammed into them, can you find one for yourself in a good journal article that has one clear idea and use that as your model? Find your own examples that mean something to you and through those, find your own voice! It is hard but you can do it.
