When the pope visited The Netherlands he had difficulties with the h and the g sounds. So he was talking about the Geilige Maagd Maria which means the Horny Virgin Mary instead of the Heilige Maagd Maria which means the Holy Virgin Mary...
Ben je klaar = are you finished Ben je ER klaar voor = are you ready for it! So maybe that's dutch, you either ready for it or you are finished! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 ( I'm dutch I love your channel)
Regarding the pronunciation of the N at the end of the word begrepen. In some Dutch dialects it isn't pronounced (mainly the west of the country) in some others it is (mainly the east) and there are dialects where that n is pronounced, but not the e before it (mainly northeast).
Kim is great. There's a channel called Ecolinguist which gets people with similar rooted languages together and they have to guess an object or something while only speaking their own language. Kim hosts a couple of videos on there. She's very amusing and charming.
It looks like you're planning for a trip to the Netherlands and once you landed straight to the red light district with all those specific words you wrote down 🤣. Jokes aside your Dutch is improving !
@@hannofranz7973 Right, I kinda thought so. Regular meaning of geil in German: horny. Once my late father told me that geil was a taboo word when he was young (born 1933). Maybe that's the reason "geil" could get an additional meaning (awesome, cool). But it's kind of a slang word. Not everyone uses it that way.

"Opgewonden" is perfectly finy to express excitement. It literally means "thrilled" in most cases . If you have a toy that you wind up with a key it will be "opgewonden" as well. And yes, one meaning is "turned on" but with that example I have a hard time believing it even happened. Nobody would miss that concept if they talk Dutch regular. If an N is behind a word, it is generally said. However most people will kind of swallow it during conversation. This will happen with other letters like t as wellin some areas of the Netherlands.

scheiden means separate, but in Dutch it also means divorcing which makes sense in a way cause if u divorce someone you seperate yourself with that person.
Yea so "ben je klaargekomen" translates word by word into "did you finish?" which is indeed a very good translation by the letter. But in the spirit klaargekomen is only ever used in the dirty sense of "to finish" and in English to finish would actually make sense in multiple contexts :')
@@arposkraft3616 I wouldn't even say geraakt personally it sounds a bit off to me. I usually just say "ben je al klaar?" if I'm actively waiting or "is het gelukt?" or "is het nog afgekomen?" if I wonder whether something got completed to the end.

Opgewonden is being used for both to be honest although most of the time it's more the 'I'm turned on' translation but you can hear people using the word as being 'excited'.
You're absolutely right about the 'n' being dropped in words ending with '...en'. Dutch people do that a lot. I'm Dutch myself, but I can honestly say that, if you'd wish to learn speaking standard Dutch properly, you should be taught by a Flemish teacher. The Flemish in Belgium don't drop the 'n' as much as we do, or at all. Within the Netherlands it also depends on the region. In the south ern part of the country the 'n' is dropped less due to a much closer connection to the Flemish and their accents, but it still happens more than in Flanders. A video on the channel Easy Dutch discusses the differences in word usage for the same thing meant. There is a short interview with a Flemish guy saying he is a standard Dutch teacher, and he states that Dutch people are quite sloppy with pronunciations, mentioning dropping the 'n' at the end of words as an example. I kinda agree with him. However, it is common in pretty much any western languages to drop letters from the end or the center of words. You, for example, drop the 't' at the end of words if it is written after a vowel. That's just common. The dropped 'n' in Dutch is essentially quite the same thing. You will find that this generally happens in verbs and plural forms for things. Also, I'm surprised that you sometimes manage to make the 'r' at the end of a word roll more. You 'correct' yourself when Kim repeats the sentence and you hear a more English related 'r'. However, it's not necessary to correct that 'mistake', because this is one of the letters that is pronounced very differently in words like 'er', depending on the region people live in. Actually, people from the southern part of the country consider Kim's version of the 'r', which is used in the west and center of the country, to be what Dutch people would call 'bekakt' (I believe that this is best translated to English as 'posh'; I hope that's correct). The Flemish roll the 'r' even more than southern Dutch people do.
