    Currently in the midst of the final novel in this wicked years series. Eventually you find out what happens to Fiyero, even the bucket of water is kind of explained. Elphaba does avoid water consistently but her end by water was explained in a different way towards the end of the series. I’ve noticed when Maguire explains things he leaves it open to your interpretation and presents it as gossip in Oz.

      @@MaskedMan66 it is but it’s also an adult series so he doesn’t need to hold your hand through everything. Those who read to comprehend will understand a lot. When I was reading to understand I caught things that I didn’t before. Don’t think he intends to spell everything out for his readers especially because a lot of oz lore is common knowledge at this point. But with that being said- it’s still wish washy sometimes.

    Great video! I personally like the musical version of "Wicked" because it is more bright and uplifting and I'm that kind of guy. I mean, hello! The music alone is to die for! - Loren

      Absolutely!! The music is fantastic! I do think it’d be fun to direct a tv show of the books version and have it be dark and creepy but definitely love the musicals color and theatrics!!

    I am so glad you covered Wicked!
    I tried reading the book back when I was in high school and wasn’t able to get through it, and I think you’ve convinced me to give it another chance. I love your insights into how and why the musical works because of the changes made from the novel, it’s absolutely a case of embracing the medium. I think Oz has a surprisingly successful track record in terms of adaptations solely because of how liberal they tend to be with the source material…I think the Oz mythology is so open to interpretation that it serves as a beautiful kooky blank canvas for different types of storytelling.
    I’m trying to decide which ending I prefer between the book and the musical, I have to agree that they’re respectively perfect for their mediums. I think the musical leans a little too far into the novelty surrounding how the story connects to The Wizard of Oz, but at the same time it doesn’t feel forced which I really appreciate. I will be VERY interested to see how the film adaptation works out…I feel like it’ll run into some of the same issues we saw with Oz the Great and Powerful in terms of legalities limiting just how closely they’re able to recreate imagery from the 1939 film…those darn legalities ruin everything!
    Thanks so much for being a part of the collab, this was a great video!!!

    • @PunziesPalace
      @PunziesPalace  3 года назад

      Yes if you’re an Oz fan definitely read the book. It can be a struggle to get through at times but definitely an interesting take and vastly different from the musical. And oh man the Oz movie was so… strange to say the least. I’d love for them to do well with a Wicked movie but I have my doubts just cuz I hold it so near and dear and want them to do it justice. But Oz has so many good interpretations for so many cool adaptations. I think Oz and Peter Pan are my two favorites when it comes to having cool different adaptations. Thank you so much for creating this collab and was so happy to be a part of it!!

    The comparison between the book and the movie is the unseen scenes when Dorothy is not around . For example , the original 1939 Wizard of Oz the munchkins sent Dorothy on her way to see the Wizard , then comes a couple of scenes from Wicked and that ends when Fiyero gets hung up on a pole in a cornfield which prepares for the next original scene from the original 1939 original Wizard of Oz film .

      I know that , I saw some of the references in the show . It could be a prarelel to the original story . I could be wrong . But did you see the same references like the quote there’s no place like home , the tin man , the ruby slippers and more ?

    • @jasonkingsley9134
      @jasonkingsley9134 4 месяца назад +1

      I had thought it was about the ruby slippers , when I got Return to Oz on dvd it said on the cover that the film picks up where the original The Wizard of Oz ended .

    • @jasonkingsley9134
      @jasonkingsley9134 4 месяца назад +1

      Or just watch how this Judy Garland was anxious to get back to Kansas , where we see her ruby slippers was about to fade away . The only question is what the Doctor was asking in Return to Oz , Dorothy , where’s are those slippers now ?

    A lot of Wicked the book is pulled from L.Frank Baum’s original 14 books, like Lurline, Nick Chopper being the Tin Man, and Boq, who is the munchkin Dorothy comes across her first night in Oz. He’s hosting a party celebrating the end of the witch of the east and she is invited and cheered over. They see her as a munchkin witch because she is wearing both blue and white.
    One of the things I liked is how Maguire references both the movie and the book with the shoes being both silver and ruby depending on the light.

    Did these 2 sister witches read the original Wizard of Oz book for scenes in Dorothy’s point of view ? Like in the 2nd act , there’s a whole lot of references from the 1939 original Wizard of Oz film.

    • @PunziesPalace
      @PunziesPalace  2 года назад +2

      Probably because that’s the point. Wicked is supposed to be a retelling of wizard of Oz from the wicked witch’s perspective. So there will be a lot of references because it’s the same story but a different perspective

    Nope! I just finished Wicked and I'm HIGHLY disappointed... The first half feels like a rip off of Hogwarts. And the political drama surrounding the animals feels like Narnia's bad dream. And I'm no prude, but the sexual scenes are too often and too vulgar. Really ruins the magic and mythology behind the Oz universe.... Don't understand how or why this author was allowed to ruin the MOST iconic witch in modern culture. So much could have been done with her amazing character, but a lot was left unclear (while sex scenes were TOO detailed).
    I did not like this book at all! And I don't see how this became a musical. 👎

      The musical is literally AMAZING. I’ve never read the book and reading that comment, I no longer plan to… but the musical is a materpiece that really builds G(a)linda and Elphaba’s characters, establishes a story where good and evil aren’t as black and white as we thought, and the sexiest thing is two characters singing to each other about their love and kissing. I recommend looking up the show, there are a few good bootlegs ones RUclips.
