I got to see Jackie when I was eight years old. My first Broadway show since being diagnosed with cancer. She made it so special. She’ll always be my favorite.
Alyssa Fox holds a special place in my Heart since she was the first Elphaba i saw with the Wicked Tour back in 2015, so I'm happy she's doing the 20th Anniversary.
I saw Wicked for the first time about 6 months ago here in Australia and it was absolutely amazing, I’ve seen it another 3 times since and I’m flying from Sydney to Melbourne to see it for a 5th time. I am so incredibly grateful and lucky to have Sheridan Adams as my first Elphaba, I got to meet her at the stage door and give her a hug and it was the best moment of my life, as a 16 year old girl, she inspires me so much. When Defying Gravity ended the first time, I BAWLED my eyes out, I was in absolute shock, my mum was laughing at me. I would do anything to play Elphie one day💚
My first elphaba was Jackie Burns during her first tour. I saw her at the Boston Opera House. I was absolutely gobsmacked. Especially her No good deed gave me chills and made me really cry. It was so intense how much i felt that she inhabited the role.
For some reason I had this idea that a lot of Elphabas probably hate doing Defying Gravity after a while but now I realize what a privilege it probably is to do it considering how iconic it is but MY GOD doing it 8 times a week is WILD
I never saw Mary Kate as elphie but I did get to see her as Janis in mean girls on tour and she was amazing in that so I bet she was amazing as elphaba!!!!
March of 2012 while on a school choir trip, we got to have a workshop with a couple people (I think choreographers) to learn a few of the numbers. Afterwards we got to have a Q&A with Jackie. This was before we actually got to see the show later that evening, and our minds were blown by how amazing she was! We were able to catch her leaving the theater too, so I was able to get my playbill signed. She was absolutely lovely and so talented.
This show will always have a special place in my heart. It was the first musical I ever saw live on stage. We were sitting in the nosebleeds but the energy in the room was electric. Happy 20th Anniversary Wicked!
I had the privileged to watch the original (Elphaba) Australian cast for 2 different nights, Jemma Rix and Suzie Mathers here at Singapore back in 2012. Loved it!
This was quite a treat. It's not every day that you get to hear different people who play the same character sit down with each other and talk about their experiences. I love it. I do wish it was longer, though. I could literally sit here all day and listen to these ladies tell their stories.
Alyssa's first would have been SJB, which means her first Glinda as an audience member would have been Kendra Kassebaum (provided neither were out) so how cool that Kendra ended up being Glinda the first time Alyssa PLAYED Elphaba five years later?
My daughter and I saw wicked on tour with Mary Kate. I remember we held our breath through gravity and looked at each other when you were done and we were like yeah she slayed that. ❤
I have always wanted to see Wicked in my hometown of Perth, Western Australia and missed out every time but this year my partner and I were in Melbourne, Australia for a concert and I knew wicked was going to be there the same time we were so I had to buy tickets. My partner has seen it twice before with his family (once in Aus, once in the UK) and it’s his mum’s favourite musical of all time. He said to me that he’ll be singing along which he did and I knew a few songs thanks to Glee but to see this for the first time was incredible and Defying Gravity had me an emotional mess and goosebumps everywhere. I then took my mum in May this year for her first time and had the same feeling listening to the song again. It is now one of my favourite musicals and it’s coming to Perth, Western Australia in December so I will be going again and again and again. Can never get Enough of such an amazing and iconic musical. 😊😊😊
I saw Wicked for the 2nd time when the national tour came through this summer. I treated myself to really good tix. I just...it was an amazing experience. I felt so emotionally overwhelmed, but in the best way. Joy, happiness, wonder, magic, everything, turned up to 1000. I managed to hold it together until Defying Gravity, which destroyed my mascara lol.
I saw Alyssa who was the standby that when on for Jenn when I saw it in Cleveland. She was SO GOOD. Also I wonder how they picked these four for the interview! How cool that they got selecetedb to speak about their Wicked experience. Long love Wicked 🩷💚
there are some great power numbers with vocals of tremendous B-Way belts...fantastic. but but but, the most powerful song in the entire show is seemingly understated, but the show is best summed up in "FOR GOOD." that was my conclusion but I later learned that the composer/playwright Stephen Schwartz once pointed to For Good as his best statement in the show.... I hope others will listen carefully, after the power ballads and ringing belts let loose of your ears, and consider the lyrics and meaning of For Good....amazing gem in this musical...
@AlyssaFox, Stephanie J Block played Elphaba in Dallas National Tour of WICKED. Stephanie J Block played Elphaba in 2006, traveling cast. Just a friendly FYI. So happy that these women get to have this roundtable and discuss what inspired them while playing Elaphe on Broadway and international productions of WICKED! :) :) :)
