    I love her comments about touring and how she felt it as a form of patriotism that's not rooted in politics, but is purely sharing art! Such a beautiful perspective I've never thought of.

    Mary Kate is Elphaba personified. Saw her in Wicked on tour and instant fan of the show and her! I recently went to NYC for the first time and had to see Wicked on Broadway with MK as Elphaba (11-9-24) and again she was amazing!

    Guys, she loved the movie, she was mocking the meme, not the movie performers. "Nobody knows how hard this is" is ironic for her cus the Broadway actors *know*

  • @alanaburton2671
    @alanaburton2671 Месяц назад +24

    And as one of the few who does know how hard it is, it’s weird to not use this moment as a chance to build them up given her shared experience. But instead she chose to be weirdly shady and dismissive?

    I was fortunate to see Mary Kate Morrissey in November right before seeing the movie. She’s an amazing Elphaba in both singing and acting parts. It’s great to know that after 20+ years on Broadway, Wicked continues to cast great actors in the show. Go see her before she leaves the show in March.

    I saw her on Broadway in August this year, and she’s hands down one of my favorite Elphabas. Even in the green makeup, I thought she really looked like my sister. Now, seeing her without it and knowing she has an Irish background, she looks even more like her! We’re from Ireland too.

    What a fantastic interview! I could have listened for hours. I saw Wicked for the first time in November 2023, and Mary Kate was Elphaba that night. Her performance has stayed with me ever since. My admiration of her and her dedication to her craft continues to grow. As you brought up in the interview (18:39), she is MY Elphaba. 💚 My hope is to get back to NYC before she's moved on.
    Very cool to hear about her Irish heritage. I live on East Coast of Canada, majority of population is Irish descent. We grew up with same music. ☺️🍀

      Unfortunately, not surprising. I suspect there are a few Wicked Broadway actresses who felt a little slighted which is probably part of why Cynthia and Ariana made a pact to take care of each other and have each other‘s back. I’m sure there’s some real hate out there. I’m glad the film adaptation is so successful. The numbers don’t lie.

    Why is the stage at the Gershwin theatre at an angle? Does anyone know?

    • @elphie93
      @elphie93 2 месяца назад +1

      Stages were traditionally set at an angle so that more people can see the action from the back to the front of the stage. For example, in crowd scenes, a lot of actors' faces would be blocked if the stage was completely level.

    Hi I’m not really familiar with the broadway workings, but is there a reason for the contracts to only last a year ? And also can she play the role again in the future ??

    • @Olivia-pd5mn
      @Olivia-pd5mn 2 месяца назад +3

      Each show has a different contract - the lion king will hire people to play the same role for as long as they want (some ppl have been there since the show started) - but Wicked is such a difficult show for the two leads, that they make the contract one year. The actors have to be hermetic during their run of the show. It’s also good publicity for the show that they constantly have new blood and the show is always feeling fresh.

    • @chiqa2448
      @chiqa2448 Месяц назад +2

      @pfftxoxo1502 elphaba is difficult for the exact opposite reason- YOU DONT take turns or shifts, and your standby is just there in case of emergencies, so in performing 8 times a week and getting greened out twice per show, the role takes over your life 😊

  • @LesNessman2001
    @LesNessman2001 2 месяца назад +2

    It’s not. Don’t do this to yourself.
    One real song in act 1, then few duets… if you need to count Gravity, then 2 real songs, but her part is short.
    Act 2, one real song, couple light duets.
    The Phantom, famous for having it easy compared to Christine, has a more demanding role.

    • @ThexImperfectionist
      @ThexImperfectionist 2 месяца назад +13

      You mad bro? This a widely accepted fact on Broadway. Your ill-informed opinion doesn't change that. From the number of songs she sings (many with crazy high belting) to the amount of stage time, and every minute off stage spent with a team changing costumes and touching up the green makeup, to the physical track of running around the Gershwin, down staircases for trapdoor entrances, etc. The stamina to do that 8 times a week is unreal.
