    If your questioning who that woman who carved MK and brought him to life, she is the primordial creation goddess Nüwa who crafted the universe’s creatures from animals to demons/spirits to humans.

    • @RVSketch
      @RVSketch  Год назад +36

      Yeah, I talked about Nüwa a lot in this video 😅 Although, it's important to note that it hasn't been confirmed that the lady who created MK is Nüwa - it is just speculation at this point.
      Nüwa is not even in the book Monkie Kid is based on, and Nüwa's main identifying feature is her serpent body, but we did not see the body of the woman who created MK, so we can't really say for sure if it is her or not.

      I am hoping she is Goddess Nuwa though. Her myth is really amazing.
      As for why MK had all of Sun Wukong's powers, it could be that when Sun Wukong was created, Goddess never actually intended it and the stone had just been left behind.
      But after ahe saw what Sun Wukong was capable of, she decided to replicate the natural phenomena and create MK. Kinda like how humans replicated the process for creating diamonds.
      The other stone animals look like the Chinese Zodiac, except the bear... Wondering why the bear was included...

      @@MahiMahi-yu5jo my guess is that the clay animals represent animal spirits/demons that Wukong encountered in JTTW, so the bear would be the black bear demon.
      Also Nüwa didn’t create Wukong, there are some versions that say she did, just like there are some versions where instead of facing the six eared macaque Wukong faced a magical manifestation of his wicked side, but according to the original version Wukong was created suddenly and unintentionally when energy from heaven and earth collided, though to be honest there’s no guarantee of which version the writers intend to use.

      @@sarahelroub1800 I know that in the original Sun Wukong was just born, not created by any specific being. And even that could work out. Goddess Nuwa saw how Wukong was born and replicated the process to create MK...
      I think the version of lore that Goddess Nuwa created Sun Wukong is from the New Gods verse of movies.
      But, end of the day, they are all just speculation and we need to wait for the show.
      Still, the story of Goddess Nuwa patching up the holes in heaven and fixing the supporting pillar is amazing. I'm a big fan of Creation myths.

      @@MahiMahi-yu5jo I especially love the one with her punishing King Zhou for desecrating (cough cough) her statue and talking about her as if she were his concubine, by creating and sending three seductive creatures to distract him until his kingdom fell into ruins.
      If that story is canon to LMK (if a bit toned down) it would be fun to see everyone act like Nüwa is a perfect paragon of tranquility only to be shocked when they find out (through this story) that she has just as firey of a temper as her son.

    I hope that in the upcoming specials, we get to know more about Mk's past and what happened to him and his creator. If they can get Wukong back from the scroll then maybe he'll tell his part of the story when MK first existed.

    • @RVSketch
      @RVSketch  Год назад +22

      Ah, well, according to David Breen, the co-producer of Monkie Kid, Sun Wukong actually doesn't know anything about MK's creation 👀 Apparently, Sun Wukong was looking for MK in the Scroll, but kept finding the stone instead (but didn't know why). I thought that when MK was having his visions, when he saw Sun Wukong looking at the stone, that was a flashback. But apparently, that wasn't a flashback, and MK was seeing Sun Wukong in the present.
      My guess is Sun Wukong just noticed that MK had the same powers as him, but didn't know why, and just decided to train him.

    • @RVSketch
      @RVSketch  Год назад +39

      I think so, although it's not confirmed. A lot of people did think it meant that Sun Wukong was MK's father though, but the co-producer of the show said that is not the case:

      However, he is also described as having "golden eyes" in Volume 2, Chapter 44.
      So, I'd say his eyes are definitely golden, but it's possible they were a mix of gold and red, or they were red when they first got irritated by the smoke, but then became golden when they healed.
      There's also the fact that Sun Wukong is likely based off of a Rhesus Macaque, and those types of monkeys have golden eyes, but they also have red colouring around their eyes.

      @@spencerh745 Thanks! And are you talking about Overly Sarcastic Productions (OSP)? I know a lot of people watch them, although I have also heard there are a few inaccuracies in their videos.
      The one that annoys me most is the fact that, in their latest video, they drew the Six Eared Macaque as having six ears, even though he is never described as having six ears in the book (his name refers to his origins, not his physical appearance). OSP also left out the most important part of the Six Eared Macaque story! Which is the fact that the Six Eared Macaque is actually part of Sun Wukong's mind - Sun Wukong and the Six Eared Macaque are two parts of the same person.
      I think I mentioned this in this video, but I did make this video explaining how the Six Eared Macaque is part of Sun Wukong's mind in Journey to the West:
      ruclips.net/video/c8xkjofrDUA/видео.html

      Yeah, I noticed that as well! It fits in with my theory that Macaque is a clone of Sun Wukong (which makes sense since, in the book, the Six Eared Macaque is made from Sun Wukong's mind and they are two parts of one person).
      And if you want to read the books, this website has PDFs of Journey to the West in different languages:
      journeytothewestresearch.com/2023/08/08/archive-42-pdfs-of-journey-to-the-west-translations/
      There are two English ones: the Anthony C. Yu translation (regarded as the most accurate translation - it has extensive footnotes and an introduction by the translator explaining a lot of stuff) and the W. J. F. Jenner translation (might be easier to read? Also, it seems to be cheaper if you want to buy a physical copy).

    @Oridcas_insta Год назад +52

    Okay, so here me out - that's my theory: the woman in the vision is Guanyin, who helped Trupataka and Wukong multiple times throughout the journey to the west.
    Guanyin wanted to create a new, more reliable, new Sun Wukong, so she tried creating different animals from the same stone Wukong was born from, but none of them was successful, so in the end she settled for a monkey, despise not wanting to make him too similar to Wukong. The monkey broke so Guanyin gave up, but after she left, the broken monkey came to life, which resulted in MK/Xiaotian (still looking for how it is spelled in mandarin so cuz it might have some hidden meaning).
    Assuming Pigsy, Sandy, and Tang are the real deal (reincarnation or rewritten), that leaves only Guanyin and the Buddha himself as the only big players in JTTW that we're yet to see.
    I'm sure that theory is full of flaws, but if it wasn't - where's the fun? 😊

    • @RVSketch
      @RVSketch  Год назад +13

      That's a pretty cool theory! I especially like the idea of Guanyin trying to make other animals because she didn't want them to be too similar to Sun Wukong (on a related note: I do wonder if it's possible those other animals also came to life, or will come to life in the future 👀).
      Also, concerning MK's name: his full name in the Chinese dub is Qi Xiaotian (齐小天). (Note: in China, surnames come first, so Qi is his surname, and Xiaotian is his personal name).
      And that name does in fact have a cool meaning! According to the Monkie Kid wiki, his name "[t]ranslates to Together Little Heaven. Xiǎo (小) meaning little and Tiān (天) meaning sky or heaven. The surname Qí (齐) is the simplified character for 齊. Both these characters come from Monkey King's title: "The Great Sage, Equal to Heaven" or Qítiān Dàshèng (齊天大聖)."

    • @Oridcas_insta
      @Oridcas_insta Год назад +13

      @@RVSketch let me build on the theory even further: Guanyin DID succeed in making the new Wukong she wanted, a different animals we don't see. We were mistaken to assume MK was the final attempt. MK was another failed attempt that coincidentally became alive. But "the real deal" is actually the new villain for this arc. Either they strayed away from Guanyin, or attacked her uppon becoming a living being, and that's the main villain of this arc - the Macaque to MK the new Wukong.

However, mk still emerged as just human and little and somehow found his way to the mainland without Wukong noticing maybe his creator intervened and moved the statue to the mainland in an effort to keep it away from Wukong. (we never see the statue in the present so there's no reason to assume it's still where we saw it.) we know workings egg-rock took thousands of years to hatch so I don't see why Mks statue would be different it's possible that the time between Wuong breaking the figure and the start of the show were we see Wukong observing him was hundreds of years and Wukong forgot about the incident or he didn't connect them.

    In Journey To The West, there are 4 "super monkeys", basically.
    There's Sun Wukong aka the Intelligent Stone Monkey, then there's the 6 Eared Macaque, and the other two - Red Buttocked Baboon, and Long-Armed Gibbon. Considering that 6 Eared Macaque doesn't look like, well, a Macaque with 6 Ears, they can retcon the story of the Long-armed Gibbon, for example, to be MK.

    • @RVSketch
      @RVSketch  Год назад +4

      Yeah, maybe! Although Gibbons are apes and so they don't have tails, so if MK was one of the Four Spiritual Primates, then he would have to be the Red Buttocked Baboon.
      Also, Macaque not having six ears in Monkie Kid isn't really a retcon or a change, as the Six Eared Macaque is actually never said to have six ears in Journey to the West - his name actually refers to his origin, not his appearance. This is because the Six Eared Macaque is made from Sun Wukong's mind in the book, and the phrase "six ears" refers to this as it links to a Chinese saying and the Buddhist concept of the Six Impurities.
      If you want a more thorough explanation, I did make this video about it, explaining how the Six Eared Macaque and Sun Wukong are two parts of the same mind:
      ruclips.net/video/c8xkjofrDUA/видео.html
      Anyway, MK being one of the Four Spiritual Primates would be interesting, but I'm not sure how it would work, as the Intelligent Stone Monkey is Sun Wukong, so my impression was only one of the Four Spiritual Primates is a stone monkey, but we know MK is also made from the stone. But who knows 😅

      @@RVSketch the promise of another pair of spiritual primates is too good to be wasted 🤔
      The Baboon and the Gibbon will get involved sooner or later.
      It's obvious that Wukong is involved with the creation of MK, in one way or another. I think that the woman in the visions is Kuan Yin, who was very involved in the journey to the west. It comes to the question if why. Maybe Wukong felt lonely and wanted to create a new version of his old friends? But that wouldn't make sense in the timeline.🤔

      @@Oridcas_insta Yeah, I do hope we see the other two Spiritual Primates!
      Also, even though MK is made from Sun Wukong's rock, according to David Breen, the co-producer of Monkie Kid, Sun Wukong actually doesn't know anything about MK's creation 👀
      Apparently, Sun Wukong was looking for MK in the Scroll, but he kept finding the stone instead (but didn't know why). I thought that when MK was having his visions, when he saw Sun Wukong looking at the stone, that was a flashback. But apparently, that wasn't a flashback, and MK was seeing Sun Wukong in the present.

      lego writers are very good at simultaneously overcomplicating and streamlining their stories. due to adding the original characters necessary for the story to work, they had to eliminate the more minor characters. also, wukong having actual martial duties as literal ruler of monkey society might get in the way of the plot a bit, as well as toeing the line with lego's non-violence policy. which is a bit odd, seeing as lmk is definitely on the more violent end of the lego spectrum, but i think there's intricacies regarding (especially major) protagonists commanding armies on a permanent/regular basis. sorry, i have approximate knowledge of many lego things

      Hmm.. well I don't think Master Subodhi said the stone gave birth again, he said "it was used to form another". After the stone cracked open and gave birth, I don't think it could really do that again (but clearly someone used the remains of the stone to make MK).
      However, it is not impossible that Sun Wukong and Macaque were twins that came out of the stone at the same time. Which would make sense, as in the original story they are two parts of the same person, and so in a way technically were born at the same time in the book.
      Another idea is that, since in Monkie Kid Macaque has shadow powers, maybe he is literally Sun Wukong's shadow come to life, and so would have come into existence when Sun Wukong came from the stone.
      Of course, personally, my theory is that Macaque was a hair clone of Sun Wukong. Especially because they have identical golden eyes.

    I have a detail here that I noticed, and which I shared on Tumblr. Weren't you confused by the not-so-kind expression on Wukong's face when looking at the stone? Although, Wukong was looking not only at the stone, but also at "us". maybe he wasn't alone, or was with Nuwa? But the most interesting thing is, why is the "Monkey Stone" split lying on the "ground" and not "in the stone"? That is, did someone interfere with Ritaul, or did Wukong himself want to destroy the stone? Very confused dialogues, then they say that the MK is not made of stone, then quite the opposite, because the Cherinla MK comes out of stone. Why did I ask this, just because a stone monkey (split) is lying on the ground, what is in the stone? Although, the MK is also buggy with cracks.

    • @RVSketch
      @RVSketch  Год назад +1

      Yeah, it is confusing. Although, it's actually been confirmed that Sun Wukong did not know MK came from the stone. Basically, when Sun Wukong was looking at the stone, that wasn't a flashback. That was Sun Wukong in the Scroll looking at a memory of the stone. So Sun Wukong had never seen MK's stone until he saw a memory of it in the Scroll. This is what David Breen, the co-producer of Monkie Kid, said:
      twitter.com/Davidbreen89/status/1619792594271367168?t=eoiDqIKxnvDe1ygyjx3t1g&s=19
      I think the creators of Monkie Kid probably could have made that scene better, because loads of people, including myself, thought that scene was a flashback and that Sun Wukong was there when MK was a stone. But apparently not lol.
      Also, I think maybe the stone used to be bigger, and the monkey made of stone came from the stone. So, the stone we saw is what is left of the stone after the monkey made of stone came from it.

    • @sunx9424

      @@RVSketch Then it is not surprising that that scene is confusing, or it is transmitted incorrectly for our eyes. These scraps are so distorted that the plot develops differently in your head. After thinking the idea that MK came from that carving seems unlikely to me, the carving to me seems like a machine that got broken before the creator can use it I mean the majority of it is still there if the majority of MK is missing, it wouldn't make sense that he has all Monkey King's powers at least he is supposed to miss some abilities , maybe he descended from both Macaque and Monkey King and that can explain his super natural talent that is superior to Monkey King's.

    Preettyyyy sure tha woman is guan yin, yk, the woman who's vase could hold the waters of the ocean? I don't know how you spell her name exactly.. But that woman seems to be guan yin, and my theory is, like you said, the stone was ABANDONED. What I think happend was the stone was out under Wukongs care, but Wukong didn't understand that, or just didn't want to, either way, he ended up leaving the stone there, abandoned, and during the time of the stone being alone, something must have happend for it to fall, crack, and break. It seems the most logical

    • @RVSketch
      @RVSketch  Год назад +1

      Ah, well, unfortunately, David Breen, the co-producer of Monkie Kid, has said that Sun Wukong didn't know about the stone.
      In MK's had that vision, when he saw Sun Wukong with the stone, that was actually in the present and not a flashback (according to David Breen). David Breen said Sun Wukong was looking for MK in the Scroll but kept finding the stone instead and didn't know why.
      twitter.com/Davidbreen89/status/1619792594271367168?t=r9VrEyVOKONj8ei5I__Ldg&s=19
      Anyway, that woman _could_ be Guanyin, but I'm not really seeing any evidence for it personally, as she's not known to have creation powers lol. It would be a crazy twist though!
      We also did briefly sort of see Guanyin in season 2 - she and whoever made MK don't look super similar, but it's hard to tell based on the images we've got, plus it's more of a painting than a flashback, so her appearance there could easily be retconned.

    • @RVSketch
      @RVSketch  Месяц назад

      No, Monkie Kid actually got it right.
      When Sun Wukong was in the furnace, his eyes got "reddened", but the book also says his eyes became "Fiery".
      "However, wind could chum up smoke, which at that moment reddened his eyes, giving them a permanently inflamed condition. Hence they were sometimes called Fiery Eyes and Diamond Pupils."
      (Vol 1 CH 7 P189)
      After that, he is consistently referred to as having "golden pupils" throughout the book.
      "His golden pupils ablaze, Pilgrim peered into the dark shadows."
      (Vol 1 CH 18 P373)
      "The monster turned around and saw the protruding teeth, the gaping mouth, the fiery eyes, the golden pupils, the pointed head, and the hairy face of Pilgrim"
      (Vol 1 CH 18 P377)
      "Pilgrim's gold pupils blazed like lightning"
      (Vol 1 CH 19 P380)
      It seems his eyes got reddened/inflamed in the furnace, causing them to permanently become golden.
      Sun Wukong is actually said to be a macaque in the book, and is likely supposed to resemble a Rhesus Macaque:
      journeytothewestresearch.com/2017/05/17/sun-wukong-and-the-rhesus-macaque/
      And Rhesus Macaques have golden eyes, so that is probably why the author had Sun Wukong get golden eyes!

      @RVSketch  Год назад

      Oh, do you have a link to that video you saw? Because I've done a lot of research, and, in the original book, the Six Eared Macaque wasn't born from a stone - he came from Sun Wukong's mind. There are different versions/adaptations of Journey to the West though.
      But it is true that Sun Wukong and the Six Eared Macaque were identical in the book, with no difference between them. However, that also included the ears. The Six Eared Macaque is never described as having six ears in the book, and his name actually refers to his origins.
      This is a video I made where I explain how the Six Eared Macaque and Sun Wukong are portrayed as two parts of the same mind in Journey to the West:

    I know my theory will not make sense but oh well.
    My theory is that Mk is a creation from Nuwä, Nuwä is a snake goddess that made humans out of clay.
    Maybe when she saw that wukong was Alone, she made mk out of Wukongs rock that was left of them, and then she tried to make a animal to grow in the rock (I also think that i'd bee cool if mk a different animal but him being a monkey makes sense) and then she put life to the rock, btw mk was not born from wukongs rock he was born from wukongs leftover rocks so yeah.
    Then she put mk in the moutain and ig that just wukong founded him (they're is no clue on how wukong founded mk while a lil rock but meh).
    But maybe wukong fought that if the creature from the rock had his powers they would make chaos OR he fought the creature will run off with his powers like macaque, So he tried to destroy the rock but somehow the rock survived, Wukong may have also tried to destroy the clay stone that was the carved monkey.
    But when he saw that the tock survived he might have tried to get rid of him by leaving him somewhere. And Ig that he left at Pigsy's restaurant and just left I there.

      @@SharleneAdams oh sorry, I wasn't sure what your comment meant 😅. And I actually pronounce it that way on purpose because that's the Chinese pronunciation of Sun Wukong's name!
      I know the show pronounces it differently, but I've seen some Chinese people talk about how the show pronounces it incorrectly, so I try to make the effort to pronounce his name, and other Chinese names, correctly!
      I'm sure my pronunciation is probably a bit off, as I don't speak Chinese, but I use these sites for reference for his name:
