Can't beat a bit of canal fishing! 🙂 Looks really nice up around that way. At some point, I want to head further north myself so I can catch my first Zander 👍
Well done lads ….. that big perch following all the way in and then you nailing it so close to the bank … bang on !! Cracking weather too. All the best 👍
@@UltralightLads Brilliant Thankyou so much, really appreciate the information. New to lure fishing and totally blown away by the amount of different colours of lures. Once more Thankyou.
I am using a HTO urban finesse rod with a casting weight of 0.5 - 5g. This is paired with a Fox rage prism x 1000 size reel. As far as line I would suggest 8 or 6lb braid and a short length of 6 or 4lb fluorocarbon leader (about 2 foot long) On the business end we have had good success using crayfish imitations that have been rigged weed less on a 1 to 2 gram Cheb weight. Recently the Crawz by Zman have been catching a lot of perch, we fish these on a ned rig. Hope this helps :)
@@UltralightLads thank you for this!!! Really helpful. One other question I know pike can cause issues so would you recommend a trace. And would this set up cope with a decent pike of needed.? And also whats your opinion on the fox rage rod to go with the reel?
No problem at all, happy to help. It's a great style of fishing as even the smaller species put a good bend in the rod. If you're fishing an area that is known to hold a number of pike then I would suggest using a small wire trace so that you don't get bitten off. A wire trace doesn't seem to put the fish off and the lures still have great action. I have had pike to 5/6lb on this setup and the rod had enough backbone to not cause me any issues. Although if you plan to target double-figure pike then I would step up to a heavier setup. I see that they do a 2-8 gram ultralight warrior rod in the fox rage range but I haven't personally used them myself. From what I have read it seems a nice rod though.
@@UltralightLads purchased the rod and reel today that you have yourself. Now am just looking at terminal tackle. Like I said Leeds and Liverpool so called holds a number of Jack's. But its finding a trace that balances with my set up nicely.
Nicely done! Had my first big Perch out of the stretch the other direction of the carp park yesterday. Going back today to fish this way. Subbed and will be watching.
Thank you and we appreciate the sub :) Its a nice stretch, hoping to get back up there myself this week. Well done on your Perch and best of luck for today.
@@jameswigglesworth5406 I did wonder if it was you guys but wasn't sure! Oh, nice! Never caught many Tench especially not on a lure. I ended up seeing the big Pike you mentioned earlier in the day 👍
@@jameswigglesworth5406 Nice one. Will have to give it another go in the next few days. I'll bring some bread and worms just in case I blank on the lure again 😖😆
wow i will try so fish at this canal i sometime paddle board on it so i will make sure to visit it :)
ii love ultra light fishing such a different way lol inspired me to multi species hunting
So much fun on light tackle isn't it. Love a bit of multi species fishing from the piers 👍
I do a very similar style of fishing on another Bridgewater canal, but this time it's in the North West of England 😁

Cheers Julie. It was definitely one of those experiences we will remember. Thanks for watching 👍
Lovely perch.
Sorry to bother you, for the Z-man crawz do you prefer the more natural colours please?
Thankyou
Yes, my go to colours for the Zman crawz are green pumpkin and the deal. They seem to work in both bright and dull conditions 👍🏻

@phils_adventures_outdoors no problem at all. Best of luck, and if you need anything else, then feel free to ask 👍
I am looking to get in this style of fishing on the Leeds and Liverpool canal for majority. What rod and reel and set up are you using? Cheers

@@UltralightLads had another three yesterday. Had a couple of decent Rudd in lures too. Also a 6lb pike which was fun on my 7g rod
Thats good going. I've only ever had a Rudd on a lure once and that was on a little 1.2" Polaris. I bet that was a good little battle on that rod.
Gave it a go for the first time yesterday. Think the Pike were spawning though. All in the margins grouped up together. Needless to say I blanked 😆
I think we met you yesterday mate. We didn't manage to bag anymore perch or pike but strangely I had a tench on the crayfish lure just before I left!

It was a real whopper wasn't it! A friend of mine is there today and he's had a pike already. More favourable conditions I think today!
