  • After months of being set aside, I have decided to go over the Microshift Advent 9 speed, which I used on a loaner build. The one time I decided to stick to a budget on a mountain bike.

I've had everything from 30 speed to 8 speed over the years. I have the Advent 9 speed on one of my mountain bikes, came stock with the hardened steel cog 11-42 cassette and I like driving it most out of all by bikes. I cycle almost every day and I'm pretty athletic, my other 30 speed I find I'm going up/down 4 gears at a time through most of my riding. The 9 speed is closer to just shifting 1 or 2 gears at a time for me. I think I'll try the 11-46t in steel to get even more range. Also I find 9 speed better than 11 speed for holding its tune, the chain is wider also. Just a more robust platform that is more forgiving even when muddy. I actually just rebuilt my old 30 speed into a 1x setup with the Advent X 10 speed shifter and derailleur. I used SRAM PC1051 chain and Shimano Deore M4100 cassette for that one so its quite the mix. The Shimano cassette shifts so well with that chain and Advent X drive train, I wish there was a wide range 9 speed from Shimano but there is not!

I would say nine speed is more convenient in general. In my opinion at least

Advent 9-speed was my first attempt at installing a drivetrain. It could not have been easier. Within 10 or 15 minutes, I had it shifting with the drop bar shifters perfectly. Since the install, it has literally not missed a shift.

I can also state the Advent is one of the most reliable drivetrains I have ever bought. Best 9 speed by far.

I just put Advent X on my new build, and I agree Advent makes very nice parts for a better price then its competition.

It's refreshing to get useable parts at a reasonable price. Makes replacements and upgrades that much more budget friendly.

I'd like to see 5t between gears on the AdventX instead of 4t, but there may be engineering problems in making an 11-56t range.
    400% 4t 11-48t
    500% 5t 11-56t
A 500% range, 56t, is beyond the derailleurs current rated capacity.
I have the AdventX and i like it. With 29er wheels, I'd say this:
With a 36t chainring, it will climb any hill, but you'll have to coast down steep roads. Not enough high gearing. But honestly, that's not much of a problem unless you're a racing fanatic. The overlap off gearing is far less critical IMHO than total range. I'd really like to see a 11-56t AdventX. That would be perfect with a 44t chainring.

@@RomansDowntime i currently run a 2X alivio setup, 38t-28t chainring and 11t-36t cassette. It is a "go everywhere" bike mostly ridden on the busy city streets of south east asia, not bombing gnarly trails so currently have no use for an RD clutch. If i was doing a healthy amount of true offroad (not just dirt/gravel) then i'd buy this microshift and convert to 1X, i am not that skilled to fully realize the benefits of higher-end groupsets anyway.

Mine has play witn less than 1000km. It is quite expensive to replace (60 euros with discount but a deore is close), I will go for shimano. The deore is cheaper and more reliable. The shifter is not as smooth as shimano.
An 9 speed is not enought, there are too many jumps and the ride is not smooth. So 10 speed 11-32 and 2 chain rings or 3.

    Modern Turbo saddles:
Best saddles of our modern era.
Very thin hence highly elastic leather over foam FIRM foam. Leather is great.
But when used wearing SILICONE gel shorts u could go 3 centuries on that hard little Turbo.
Gel done correctly is king not Brooks rawhide
    Cow skin:
Varies in quality4godsakes just use a piece of any# STABLE gadgillion choices u have in plastic.
All a Brooks saddle is is a piece of rawhide engineered 2mimic plastic.
"Oh but it conforms sooo perfectly 2 yr own anatomy" lol so does plastic minute u sit on it = what a car tire doing a gadgillion times a mile whole Brooks cult snobbery thing a liddle batsht looney somem1 ask
"Do Brooks saddle get heavier in thrain?"
Ofcourse they do they a 3/16 " leather sponge. Even if u treat top, water gonna splash up from bottom soak yo a$$ &that sponge of a seat.
When i leave leather glove in rain = bad it begin digest th leather = tear easier.
    Brooks state:
"No, Brooks saddles should not get heavier rain because they should not be ridden when wet. However, if Brooks saddle does get wet, it can be allowed to air dry naturally will be fine. Riding Brooks saddle during heavy showers or storing direct sunlight or heat for long periods can damage the leather.
Likewise, the material we use will not be affected by rain. Cambium saddles are also available in a carved version for riders who seek to reduce pressure on the perineum or desire a more flexible saddle."
Again put some silica gel over thin flexy durable plastic topped with 5mm glued on dense memory foam cover.
Use 2 - 3 layers durable material say 2mm uv stable vynil shade net u will have th overwhelming epicenter of all saddles.

    Same bascic firm foam& SHAPE.
There is MORE 2 this SHAPE then u people are grasp = I bought THREE seats Amazon while back held same pattern ($35 for 3 saddles.)
My favorite BROLEO: With artificial fat/memory foam gel chro molly rails, SHORT nose 240mm& BIG CUTOUT = save weight 228 grams wider then ave. SLOPED SIDES left/right coupled with short nose = roomy standover/easy mount dismount VERY IMPORTNT.

AND slippery = allow perform constant precision gymnastics.
