I realize this reply is years overdue, but for those interested: As with many lesser known extended techiques on the trombone this lacks a proper name, but I would say it shares similarities to tounge slapping on the saxophone, so I usually refer to it as slap-toungue. What you do is you with high velocity shove your tounge in the back of the mouthpiece to shut the throat, which creates the percussive "popping" sound which sounds pitchless but can create some resonance tones. The rest of the texture is just semi-pitchless multitounging were you try to articulate air with various degrees of tone. And it is played with exhaling breath predominantly(as I saw someone suggest it might be with inhalation)
Love this BUT in my opinion the trombone soloists is not every close the caliber of the rest. During his first part he drifts off the key being played and it doesn't work well. Otherwise the entire group is fantastic.
Just fast, high, loud, many notes and a long time, just like a sportsman. Where is the search for beauty ? the search for art ? only technical virtuosity, no creative virtuosity, no emotional virtuosity, no conceptual virtuosity.
@@jumptosky4768 Hi my dear ! if I'm writing such things it's because I've been strugglin' all my career against this kind of sportive playing that has nothing to do with music. That's also what I use to teach in the Conservatory and during all my master classes.

I would love to see Mr. Morrison play in person! lessons would be even cooler
I was in the worlds biggest orchestra (which he conducted) and I got to meet him.
Go to generations in jazz
He is very approachable, humble and genuine. You could find him if you tried hard enough and he’d have a coffee with you in Sydney somewhere.
Met him a couple of years ago in Stockholm, nicest guy in the world, had a great chat with the GOAT himself as well. Recommend you to meet him
These kats are so badass, all of them. So tight and in tune. Thin trombone guy is so smooth.
No....no he's not.
Bill Watrous is smooth.
Carl Fontana is smooth.
That kid is disjunct and
choppy and straight as hell.

Excellent Trombones... and the Band of course! :)
This will never get old. We love you James. When are you coming to Southern California?
And Morrison is a pretty adept trombonist too! A great clip for we brass lovers.
Christopher Burton indeed!!!
and a great piano player
K padre músicos completos música de altura grasias x compartir me encanta
Cheeky mouthpiece switch from the lead. 7:10. Understandable though considering the doubble high C right after haha
This is incredible beyond comprehension.
I don’t need to tell you why, it speaks for itself.
Does that trombone player have a twin in the back that also plays trombone ?
Watching the other Videos of this Concert I thought ir was him playing the solo here until I recognized he's still sitting up there in this video
He was photo shopped in during post production :)
They’re Jim and John Morrison, James’s twin sons.
@@JesusisJesus I don't think those are his sons - I met his sons, Harry and William, after a concert. They play bass and guitar, respectively.

Am I seeing double, the one playing the solo (trombone) and one right behind him with the big bass trombone?
Ugh pretty much 90% of pro trombonists are middle aged white men with glasses, I'm not surprised.

Впечатляющее звучание оркестра и оригинальное выступление солирующих тромбонов! 🙏😎🇷🇺

Das Feinste vom Feinen! Könnte man die Namen aller Musiker bekannt geben? Kenne nur Alois Eberl ( Posaune ) und Andy Haderer ( Trompete ).
buen Jazz me gusta
Alois Eberl (trombonist) is a stud!
Да они все как один!
good Eberl¡¡¡
Клёво 👍👍👍
Morrison's trombone sounds smoother than butter. I could listen to him play that all day. Wonder how expensive it was.
Could be dirt cheap and it would still sound good!
Please someone tell me the name of this song they are playing, please?
@@Sousa_sd Dude it's literally the title....
James isn't playing a trombone, it's a Superbone. Combination slide/valve bone.
👏
Is that Shia Labeouf in the trumpet section? Haha
Damn.
What is he doing at 8:16 ?
I think he's sucking in through the trombone
Ray anderson..

That moment when you realise James Morrison can play all the instruments in that band just that little bit(lots bit) better...

Looks like a copper jo rall mute
What a stupid question.
yes they are the scat twins
They arent scatting, dumb@$$
何だ最後、ホーミーみたいな音出してるのか?
Anybody can put a name on what Lois did in 8:19?
Ado422 I don’t know what the beginning was, but I noticed some spectacular circular breathing at the end, and even that takes years to master.
I don't think there's a name but I think he was playing by inhaling, instead of exhaling, kinda weird but it's jazz

Morrison’s super bone seems to be softer
dude wtf happens at 8:20 like bruh
Tf even is that technique? His invention
@@ado4224 bro idc, all I know is that shit scares me. It looks like he's sucking air through the trombone, or maybe it's sucking the life out of him.

This is great but i was looking at the 1st tenor's posture the whole time 🤢🤢
A trombone is a trombone and it's not a trumpet. ;-) sorry James.
Hubert Noser Envious?
Piano comping is a little on the heavy side and kind of random.
