- I recently discovered my positive ground 6 volt charging system on my 1963 Ford 2000 tractor wasn't working properly, so I filmed my troubleshooting steps. In this video I check to see whether my problem is my generator, voltage regulator, or a faulty connection. Also I show how to do a generator motoring test and personal protective equipment to use. These methods will also apply to other tractors' 6 volt positive ground systems. If you are having issues, I hope this video will help you. If you enjoy this video please give it a thumbs up and if you haven't already done so, please subscribe to my page.

I just bought my first ford tractor. Been watching alot of videos, this is one of the better ones. Thanks
You're welcome. Thanks for your view!
Excellent job on explaining the test and problem solving skills
Some of your tips are helpful for any old tractor. Thanks. I have a late-60s Farmall 706 with two 6v batteries that were bad. I've been using it with one high-ampere 12v battery cuz I thought the original batteries were connected in series until recently!
I have the exact same tractor, but mine is 6 volts with a negative ground system. Hmmm. I did like you showed and touched the field wire to the BAT terminal on the voltage regulator and it started charging again. Thank you for the tip!
I also have a 1963 Ford 2000, shop manual also indicates neg ground.
When you charge that battery do you have to charge it backwards being a reverse polarity?
ok so put a new 6v battery in today in my 64 2000. then the generator started spinning while off, why?
on a 8n can I polarize from the voltage regulator only or I have to do it from the generator too? see people doing both or one or the other.
Thanks this video helped me a lot
