This came out at a time when everyone was wondering how Marko was doing after leaving Nightwish. It was such a relief to see him singing and enjoying himself. The man is a living legend.

As for more Marko side work: The Bass player Marko Hietala's original first band was “Tarot” and he is the Lead Singer & Bass player of the band. Marko has all the time been playing with them as a side Project for Nightwish. The 20 year young Marko sings/plays in “Tarot - Wings of Darkness - 1986”: ruclips.net/video/VimogVM3i9Y/видео.html (NO BEARD AT ALL YET). As a comparison more mature Marko sings the same song on 2006 "TAROT - Wings Of Darkness (OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO) - ruclips.net/video/xD1q21dr8tw/видео.html " (The Familiar Beard on). Also Marko sings with awesome voice technique showing Nightwish actually has/had for 20 years (Marko left NW on 2021) two Lead Singer capable great voices having singers "Tarot - Tides (Live) - ruclips.net/video/3X9lLP7eHW0/видео.html ". Marko Hietala released his solo album 'Pyre Of The Black Heart' onJanuary 24th 2020, from that song "MARKO HIETALA - The Voice Of My Father (OFFICIAL LYRIC VIDEO)" is really worth listening to.

This is an old Waltari's song updated to 2021 with Marko. And it's great.
"Waltari" refers to the Finland's most famous writer, Mika Waltari. He wrote shitloads of content, but he's most known of his historic fiction novels. His most famous novel "The Egyptian" was the most selling foreign novel in the US from 1949 to 1980, when the Umberto Eco's "The Name of the Rose" surpassed it. Both of them are the most recommeded reading to everyone in the whole world. 😎👍

Check out Marko's performances in the Finnish Masked Singer competition 2020. Hietala's character, the Doctor, first made it to a tough final and then went on to win the whole season.
All the Marko performances with English subtitles ruclips.net/p/PL3JOoQizY1MlTjAvcudebGDEXAaPYjBz5

I concur. It's so nice to see him having such fun. Definitely use the videos with the English subtitles because he teases the judges and audience with clues about who he is. The judges are surprised, but Nightwish fans can clearly hear it's Marko, even though he changes his style for every song, which I loved.

Without his bass he is able to move differently with his arms and hands. As you can hear and see - Marko needs to sing to be happy. He loves to play bass and guitar, but he also loves and needs to sing.
In English we say "Spread your wings" and fly free!

Thanks guys! Marko was back on his feet very fast. The music he has been doing is totally different compared to NW. Great music also with different bands, combos, duets etc. Have you checked "Tarot"? Marko`s first internationally known band with his brother, they have been playing since 1986. "Heavy Christmas"-tour with Marko has been around in Finland. Pls, watch! Best Regards From Finland!!! Ps. "Northern Kings" another one with Marko.

I have a book called "Sinué The Egyptian" from a Finish writer called Mika Waltari. Maybe there's a relation there. The book was highly controversial at the time because this Waltari talked about stuff nobody knew about ancient Egypt and that later was to be found to be correct.

Marco isn't always with an instrument, sometimes he is the instrument. Have you seen Dutch band Delain with Marco? Do check out, Marco was kind of an uncle to the band, more than a featuring guest, but not quite a member: he was in a vocalist role in the band. Marco was performing in Tuska 2023 festival too, so yeah, he is totally back.
I've been listening a lot of Marco's own band, Tarot, recently. I own a few albums of them, been playing 2 of them in car on my way and back to work. One of my fav bands, and to continue with the family member description: a granddaddy of Finnish metal scene. I'm really fond of couple of beautiful ballads they have.

Great reaction to a wonderful song and thank you to Martine for recommending it to you. You are so correct that he seems so much more expressive and I would chalk that up to the fact that he isn't playing bass and he's able to solely concentrate on just singing.

Korpiklaani is one famoust/best finnish folkmetal band. Kärtsy (Waltari, red hair singer) has done also projects with Jonne past years. My team was honoured to make video with Jonne and Kärtsy song "Kaiho".... Link on comment/answer.

This was a remake of an old Waltari song. During the pandemic Waltari made a whole album like that, with different visitors. I think this song, the lyrics spoke to Marko.
I wish you will watch, on your on own if no reaction, another relatively new video featuring Marko:
Mika Jaakkola ft. Marko Hietala - "Soita" It's in Finnish, soita = play!
I think Marko could be an actor. Someone should give him a role in a film. (As a crazy scientist maybe!)
(It feels like Marko doesn't know what to do with his hands when not playing the bass. That's the way many of ys see it, but I think he knows what to do but the bass doesn't allow it. He moves a bit like Joe Cocker! He had no instrument to restrict his moves.
Mika had to learn a new way to play the guitar because he had spasms in his hands/arms, it is not so uncommon after playing for decades.

Of course the Waltari's original version is better, but great version nevertheless. Waltari is a cross-genre Metal band, so their songs tend to be inspirational musical trips. They E.g. have combined Sami music (among other genres) with Metal and they made one of the first Symphonic Metal albums.
    Waltari - System Odda
Waltari - Deeper Into the Mud
