    Limbs lyrics
The texture of the soul is a liquid that casts a vermilion flood
From a wound carved as an oath; it fills the river bank a sanguine fog
These arms were meant to be lost! Hacked, severed and forgotten
The texture of time is a whisper that echoes across the flood
It's hymn resonates from tree to tree, through every sullen bough it sings
These boughs were said to be lost! Torn, unearthed and broken
Earth to flesh, flesh to wood, cast these limbs into the water
Flesh to wood, wood to stone, cast this stone into the water...

In this video, 13 years ago Don and Jason's heads start showing signs of hair thinning!! But nonetheless they're fantastic guitarist. So so loved their music, Agalloch a gem in metal world!!

Try and look at it as the lyrics being a story and they're being told by some thousand year old beastly sage from the underworld trying to tell you something you need to know in cryptic messages. Idk, but that's how I see it. Kind of like something out of a fantasy world, and thats good, because the real world kinda sucks lol.

@channesw When I first got into metal I hated the growled vocals too. It took me some time to get used to it, but it grew on me and now I love it !
Speaking about this Agalloch song, I think the vocals definitely add to it :)

The intro definitely does not achieve the same effect but this is the only way I see them being able to get even close to playing it right without using a backing track.

@soil thanx for reply. i live in a small ass city (Sarajevo, Bosnia), and i managed to get to see only a handful of bands live in concert, so i'm mostly making my opinions on carefully listened bootlegs/live dvds of the bands that amazed me with their studio recordings. but, hey, i'm not putting down agalloch in any way, theyr'e amazing, i just think they have to improve with their live sound, which they will with their subsequent tours, i'm sure:) it's just a matter of practice and experience:)

@Soilwar you are absolutely right about the amazing katatonia. one of my favorite bands, but very messy and uneven live! when they do hit all the right notes they are amazing, but many of their songs leave a lot to be desired and teem with flaws. it just goes to show that the art of live performance is the one that is difficult to master, and also a skill completely different from composition. even the best composers may lack performing skills. rarely does one find a band as perfect as opeth:)

Improvisation is not something limited to jazz. Improvisation is anything played by a musician that isn't pre-written or pre rehearsed, ie. made up on the spot.

@Soilwar I think the vocalist/guitarist does an amazing job and the durmmer too. Its a mix between the other guitar player and the lack of money to invest on effectc/pedals to sound exactly like in the studio.

Then again the rawness of “live” is quite something. I read somewhere Agalloch wrote this album so that it was playable to a decent live without backtracks. The rest is raw human talent and minimal synthetic invasion. I love it.

They seem a little bit shy of the beat in places or something, which is a shame. They should practice more often to sound as tight as possible because their music is just too good to be anything but perfect live.

Instead of playing chords for the whole intro every now and then he palm mutes giving it a "bouncy" sound. Its not the entire intro

Alas, I’ll say it. Something is just not working right with Agalloch’s live sound. It’s not just the "glitch" in this video, it’s the TSOFL dvd in general. It seems to me like both John and Don have problems holding the pitch, every once in a while guitars kind of falter and just don’t run smoothly. Does anyone else notice or feel similar? I’ve been digging live recordings for years now, and however much I love A. and find them to be brilliant artists I’m not too happy with how they sound live.

@Soilwar thanks man for saying that aloud. im a huge agalloch "fan", but i was rather disappointed and underwhelmed with most of their live renditions. it is really weird that john's vocals seem to be spot on, and yet his guitar work is fallacious and simply skewed from where-the-song-should-be-going. the difference between you and i though is that i DO care about live shows and agalloch kind of dropped down on my personal favs list after i heard their live dvd. unfortunately.

I am terribly sorry, but I just have to say this.
I once was recommended a listen to Agalloch, so I listened to this track, Album version of course. I was stunned. My mind was completely boggled. I imagined myself not listening to anything else than Agalloch ever again, but then came the vocals, and I felt so fucking sad that one would ruin a masterpiece with such horrendous sounding vocals.
But that's just my opinion :/

@TheGoldblaze You can't "improvise" mistakes, and generally speak, improvising is a jazz thing-- NOT metal. Almost any live improv at a metal show will be either effects-based or during a solo, nothing else.
