- Опубликовано: 7 июл 2024
- As spring inches closer, I'm preparing for plein air season. Maybe it's wishful thinking, as we are barely above zero degrees still, but thinking about flowers blooming and lambs in the fields gets me excited. Join me while I start a new sketchbook and get inspired for spring. I'll share a few gouache landscape studies and talk about my plans for spring. #gouache

I’m new to sketchbook painting, but I keep seeing more people drawing in notebooks with the non-white background. The contrast makes a stunning difference. And your painting is stunning by itself. For algorithm, leaving rest in second comment
Thank you! I think beige paper is ideal for gouache because you are starting with a midtone. That allows you to instantly see how bright your lighter tones are, which is ideal for an opaque paint
Oh you are speaking. To my SOUL. About the gouache trepidation and overwhelm. It’s why I started my day with this video. I’m gonna paint shapes right after this finished. Thank you, truly ❤
Very nice studies. The more I paint, the more I learn. Even though I am 65 years old it just goes to show you we can continue to learn with practice. I am looking forward to the beautiful, budding trees here in New England. May you see Spring soon.
Aw this is so sweet. I’m 26 and feel the same way. Very glad you’re enjoying the gift of art!
Sarah..just read your newsletter..thank you for sharing your thoughts and insights..and your daily life. Take the time you need ..whatever it takes..to live your best life. That’s what is important…. More than anything!
Can I just tell you..I get up every Saturday morning looking forward to a new Sarah Burns video! ❤
Morning!
So true... practicing separately techniques and fundamentals are so important.🎉
I'm in love with toned paper now! And gouache! I would love to try both but can't afford it right now...I do have a nice collection of watercolors but I always get frustrated with those I can't seem to find my way with them...your videos are so calming and satisfying to watch!❤ also I'm in love with Scotland ever since my boyfriend and I spend a week there! We would both love to go back sometime!
I haven’t had my dried gouache out for a bit, I think this is a sign to get it out this weekend!
I really enjoyed doing the lesson in the first gouache box and am looking forward to #2 arriving 😊.
Maybe you can give the palette little refresh to remind it you still love it 😄
You’re very right about painting being a humbling activity😂 for me, gouache is the most humbling because I only tried opaque paints 11 years after I started painting. That was a year or two ago and gouache is still kicking my ass🤡
Beautiful. Thank you for your generous tips and sharing your journey. You have inspired this 68 year old to try gouache after tears of watercolour and I'm using your lovely brushes. Wishing you a lovely spring. I used to live in the Highlands and know how fickle the weather can be but how glorious it is also. Enjoy.
I hope you have lots of fun with gouache 😀
Lovely video, thanks for the inspiration, which your videos always are! I see by the comments here that I am not the only 'oldie'! Ha! I've painted on and off all my life and I love it! Always look forward to the weekend and spending time with you.🤩
Thanks Sara…much needed encouragement! Spring is on its way here in the Pacific Northwest…Red Buds are beginning their cycle and dandelions are blooming everywhere..first food for bees. Hope you have a great Spring!
Lots of plants budding here too
So lovely and relaxing watching you work ;o; also a lovely surprise seeing SushiArtStudio's stickers! Been loving their work for many years!
Her work is soooooo gorgeous!
Inspiring. This year I'm going to take on the PleinAPRIL in my home city too as a way to enjoy and see my city with fresh eyes and be brave in being out among others in parks, streets, markets, zoo,and botanical garden rather than going to the same park each time. It does take more planning and work but after winter my guest room "studio" feels small and enclosed.
awesome as always
Beautiful little paintings! I especially like the flowers in the foreground. I’m a winter lover myself but my favorite color is green, so kind of a conflict -
I also love that you put your paint choices in blocks under the painting!!
And! That you’ve not needed neat edges. Why have I gone without questioning my anxiety-summoning edge obsessing? I’m a free minutes into my first viewing of one of your videos and have already learned big lessons. Very appreciated ❤❤❤❤❤
Well who doesn't love a good tape peel!?
I just don't bother when I am doing tons of studies in a row :)
I loved this video!!! im also preparing for plein and coming along with you in April :D let s paint everyday outside in april!!! G or WC no matter what!! (ps: I love your stickers your mini paintings do you sell them? and the others fox etc where do they come from?) kisses from France Elisa.)
A lot of very useful information in this video. Your muted colours are so beautiful ❤
I can watch you paint for hours 😍
Might need to try some Perm Yellow Deep. Looks perfect for mixing the muted, sunburnt hues of the Australian landscape.
The sheep stickers are great! 🤩The flowers in the foreground of your first painting are my favorite part. Your work is beautiful as always. 😊
Thank you!
I love the sheep !
I love the toned paper! I’ll have to test it out. Love stillman and birn
I love the sheep stickers😍
Every day I look for another video from you. I started doing some studies also and developing my own skills and style. I bought the 10 tube set of Winsor Newton designer gouache and stay wet pallet. A total game changer that’s given me a love for gouache. So, thanks for the videos. Please keep them coming !!!!!
Wonderful!
Thanks for sharing!😊
I see you found a way to use your paper as your palette. How wonderful!😊💕
Yea it's easy and works great!
Thank you Sarah - I bought a beige nova sketchbook and a Turner gouache set - very excited started a painting.. will see how it goes! Thank you for your inspiration, encouragement and you can do this approach! I too hope to participate in some outdoor April sketching.
Sounds like a great combo! ☺
This is so gorgeous, what a fantastic aesthetic ☺☺☺
Thank you!! 😊
I’ve loved my first subscription box and the tutorial! So much great information 😊 I’m learning so much with the different colors especially the red. (Very different from my usual palette) that’s what helps us grow, stretching into the unknown😊thank you!
I'm so glad!
I bought some Holbein gouache and it came in yesterday night, my notebooks came in today, and this video is so inspiring and I’m starting my gouache journey today!
Holbein is lovely to use, enjoy!
Is that first painting of the Sycamore Gap tree? I love the different angle of it!
🤩
Love your art. Finished first subscription box tutorial and I love how it came out. Looking forward to box 2. Have you thought of selling stickers with your art? I’d love some, like the ones you used on this journal.
I used to sell stickers but it felt like there was a lot of waste from it (like excess sticker paper that gets cut off). In order for the stickers to last they have to be vinyl. I didn't really like the feeling of contributing to that waste stream.
Oh wow love the watercolor kitsune and dragon stickers at 1:12- can you share who the artist is?
The dragon/kitsune stickers are by SushiArtStudio
I am new to your channel and loving your tutorials. I have been teaching myself watercolour and recently got some cheap guache paints too try. I love the colour of the paper in your sketch books. Can you tell me what colour it is? I am in Australia 🇦🇺 Also what gsm is your sketchbook paper? 😊
Thank you! It's the Stillman & Birn Nova beige sketchbook
Have you tried the canson sketchbooks? They have a tan one A5 mixed media for £6. I couldn’t believe the price, I haven’t started it but I thought it was a great substitute for Stilman and B, but cheaper.
No I haven't tried those
So we are transitioning from summer to autumn here in Australia, it’s been a HOT summer and way too hot to be outside painting…
Enjoy your autumn!
Are those dragon stickers from another artist? I'd love to know who. I'm obsessed with dragons lately. Thanks for the tip.
yes she goes by SushiArt
hi, what photo printer do you use , I like the photos on your sketchbook, regards, your paintings are amazing
I use a Canon pixma pro 100s
@@SarahBurnsStudio thanks a lot
