That sunblock bit had me in stitches. It was basically what my mom and her friends sound like
I have a sunburn from 90 minutes of sun yesterday. 😂
We all sound like that. Our skin is stupidly weak to that space fireball that’s been burning up there longer than people have existed.

While I appreciate the humor of this segment, it should be recognized how much cunning and guts it required to attempt a flight to freedom during that time. I have to commend Henry Brown's shear gumption in making his escape.
I suggest Eric Flint's Alexander Inheritance series
A ship from 2017 goes back in time to 321 BCE
Trinidad Island no longer has slaves
It wasn't easy, but what made it less common is other slaves snitching and Plantation owners punishing the other slaves when one escaped.
Yes. I guess this is why they didn’t want slaves to read.
I think Roy is one of the most underrated correspondents. The man is hilarious and has great delivery.
No pun intended.

Cracked up at the sunblock bit- I was putting on sunblock 😆
I swear, I would watch everything Roy's in. If he were to be in an ad for these thingies that get old people up the stairs, I'd still watch it with delight. But would much prefer if he had his own show and talked about anything he likes.
That's why there's a podcast talking about the shows segments

You are accurate to say slavery "technically" ended in 1863 with the issuance of the Emancipation Proclamation. It is worth noting the enlightened Washington government allowed Chinese slaves to be used on the United States Transcontinental Railroad project until it was finished in 1869, six years after "slavery ended."
You made an excellent opinion @Topix
Not to mention that we still essentially have slavery in prisons

Why Bloomington, IN? Is it just random, as a gag, or is there some historical significance I'm missing?
Actually, the EP didn't apply to enslaved people in border states, only those in Confederate States, which was not, depending upon whom you ask, under the jurisdiction of the Union. In other words, it could be argued that the EP did not free anyone at all upon its signing.

Based
18 September 1858 - Fourth Debate - Abraham Lincoln and Stephen Douglas - Charleston, Illinois
“I will say then that I am not, nor ever have been in favor of bringing about in any way the social and political equality of the white and black races, [applause]-that I am not nor ever have been in favor of making voters or jurors of negroes, nor of qualifying them to hold office, nor to intermarry with white people; and I will say in addition to this that there is a physical difference between the white and black races which I believe will for ever forbid the two races living together on terms of social and political equality. And inasmuch as they cannot so live, while they do remain together there must be the position of superior and inferior, and I as much as any other man am in favor of having the superior position assigned to the white race.” - Abraham Lincoln
