My dad lived in Riyadh about 40 years ago he was British and loved the country so much. So it’s always interesting watching videos from there as I wonder if my dad visited these different areas.
I worked in Saudi for over a year, often in Riyadh, but didn't visit neighbourhoods like these. I stayed in Al Olaya district and it was pretty exciting just walking around there and seeing what was going on.
Thanks for yet another interesting video.. I have visited all GCC countries and there's a great similarity in the overall appearance. Nice to see some older areas of Riyadh as well. Yemen of course is different and quite beautiful-I loved it(before the present conflict that is)
Totally interesting, thank you as most of us will never get there. I think it is interesting to see how modern landscape practices have allowed desert cities to have date palm trees transferred in to the city landscapes for beautification. I remember seeing newly moved palms in Dubai and you see it in Las Vegas too.
Have just listened to an extended version of the Lonely Planet theme tune and nearly cried because of all the memories it evoked .Thank you for the Saudi videos hope you will soon be in your happy place.Travel is complex but so worth it .

I was there during the Iran Iraq war, but not in a military capacity. Despite now being a Muslim I wouldn't rush back. And frankly whatever @AfterDarkV posts I actually liked to old parts and am completely unimpressed with tall buildings and conspicuous consumption.
Saudi Arabia seems very safe and clean. It remains largely unknown for most people but this video definitely pushed me to want to visit it in the near future. Thanks for the video and safe travels.

I was always admiring the national dressing that most of the Arab countries keep, not like in Europe, where people dress traditionally only arround some celebration, that's very patriotic and tradition preserving
What's there to admire?! Sure, tradition is great, as is traditional garb, but too much tradition and strict dress codes are personally and societally stifling. People should be able to wear what they want (within reason) in a free and expressive society.

I have a question, respectfully asked-why is there so many clothing stores when most women and men wear traditional clothing, ie burkas, etc? Is there a need for “western style” clothing shops? Just curious
As an Arab, there are many reasons one being to maintain the authentic heritage & tradition of the attire or wearables bc we arab respect value our traditions so much
Visited Saudi many many years ago, it's not as "dry" as many would think ! . I attended a party and outside of a liquor store I have never seen so many bottles of whisky in one place, there was however no beer ! I asked the host about this and he replied "If you are going to smuggle in alcohol you don't waste space with cans of beer ! " Everybody at the party got very wasted very quickly !
