With interest rates the way they are at the moment I'd only be putting my money in Rolex at the moment and only in the hype models as everything is too volatile at the moment. The mortgage interest rate shock is still to be felt as many people are still on the low rates but when these come to an end there will be a lot more pain in the market I think. Just my two pennies worth....
Yeah. I think it's far worse than the media think it is - it's not just the mortgage. The amount of people I know with some ridiculously jazzy BMW or Merc on the knock is worrying - £700-£900 a month sunk into PCP/Insurance/Tax and fuel, and you're staring down the barrel of your mortgage payments doubling or tripling... You can hand them back early, but prepare to bend over and let the leasing firm go in dry if you do that. The bizarre thing is that its people like me - educated professionals in their 40s/50s who really should have known better than to think 0.25% interest rate was in any way normal or sustainable.
@@duncanhamilton5841 Yep totally agree. When money was cheap people went all out to the max but that ship has now sailed. The funny thing is I'm an educated professional in my 40's and a mortgage broker to boot! and I didn't see it coming. Definitely a lesson learnt, one never knows what's round the corner so err on the side of caution...
@@MarkSamuel1982 I'm in the demographic too, albeit in IT Sales. Didn't see it coming per se, but rather couldn't see it lasting forever, and have always remembered how close my parents came to disaster in the spikes of the late 80s. So always regarded the last decade as bonus. That said, I swerved it more by luck than judgement - haven't moved or remortgaged in 20 years.
I think the best thing is to buy something you really like and enjoy it. When and if the time comes, then sell, otherwise you are winning regardless :) Cheers!
Hi Charlie, Love the videos, can I ask a question would you recommend buying a Rolex Sea-Dweller 50th anniversary from an AD and would you keep it to wear or would you sell it? I have been offered one but its not my first choice. Thanks Simon
Would you recommend buying Patek 5726/1A-014 from the grey market selling at double retail price? It actually has come down alot (but unfortunately still will cost double retail price). Your comments will be appreciated thank you.
Comparing a Rolex to “The Holy Trinity” is like comparing Porsche to Rolls Royce, Bentley and Maybach. Theres nothing wrong with a Rolex, its a massively desirable brand but if your driving a Porsche and and see a new Rolls Royce, Bentley or Maybach, you start lusting for one.
I would disagree, the holy trinity make some good watches but at the end of the day they are nobody watch brands charging a lot of money. Ask 100 people on the street who vacheron is, if one knows I’ll be impressed. I’m not putting the brands down they may great watches but generally they all have poor resale value. There’s a few select models that have resale value now but even a few years ago those models were nearly worthless and likely will be again one day. Only a few years ago you couldn’t give a Nautilis away. People seem to forget. Submariner and Daytona basically been the most desirable watches on the planet since I’ve been alive. Rolex has a name the other companies can’t build
Hi Charlie. Another great video...keep them coming! A somewhat unrelated question.....do you or any dealers you know actually use auction houses (whether in person or online ) to buy watches? I often see items go for market rate not including the 25-30% fees you then have to pay on top! I'm always intrigued as to who is seemingly paying over market for a standard Rolex / IWC etc. not even taking into account the likely need to have it serviced.
Do not buy gray at these prices. No watch is worth above its retail price. When Rolex says a steel Daytona is $15k, then it is 15k. They are not stupid and know their product and market much better than these fly by seat of their pants watch dealers. These guys speak from both sides of their mouths. They are biased.
Wrong. What you aren't factoring in is time. For many wealthy individuals time is their most important factor. A premium on the secondary market is balanced against a waiting list of years in a life that is finite.
Hey Charlie what do you think about root beer in Retail price ? Will it be discontinued? The value will go up anywhere close to the papsi & Bateman/girl? Thx heaps
Good video/info Charlie. I look forward to your views etc don't be afraid to call it how you see it. I love Rolex and VC - I own some of each. The way the retail prices are moving up at the moment, it's a good time to buy these watches. VC make only 20,000 watches p/a, that's not alot.
If you’ve played the stock market, real estate, watch market/luxury goods market for more than a decade, you’ll understand. People that have no idea how the cyclical nature of markets work will get hammered buying the top and t what they perceive as a “dip.” I’m waiting for more reasonable pricing. I sold my first house in April of 2021, sold all my long positions 3 months later and went short. The Fed will balance out the imbalances in the markets soon enough…
Hi Charlie I hope you have had a lovely positive weekend 😊 another genuine honest video ? We're is the watch buying monthly video with me in it Charlie money can't buy the Advertising its priceless 😂😂 hoping to see you soon enjoy the rest of your evening best wishes Karl
Hi Charlie, good stuff. I did pull the trigger on a Vacheron Overseas Chronograph and I have to say it's a real beauty. I've got my name down for the new panda version too. Sage advice as usual. By far the most informative watch stream out there.
@The Honest Watch Dealer not buying any other watch till I've the money for the AP. I'm too cautious and wish I could live for the day more. That way way I could look at it everyday because I'd be too scared to wear it
It’s so easy to think about prices in the context of the last two years. Totally foolhardy! Pre Covid prices are still lower! Can they go lower, you bet they can, they were only 4 years ago.
It’s always, buy now even though the prices are high as the pieces are good investments and will definitely go up over time or buy now as prices have decreased and are low. Where’s the its not a good time to buy advice, some poor sods have lost thousands on these watches over the last 12 months probably based on the advice these type of guys give. Wall Street type of advice.

Hi Charlie 👋 Is it possible to get my spend up by buying/donating items from my Rolex AD new/unworn to charity? Google led me to CharityBuzz, which runs an auction on behalf of the nonprofit in exchange for a 20% fee. Any thoughts? Thanks!
If anyone is thinking about buying any of these , just wait 3-6 months. And you’ll save yourself 30%
And what is this analysis based on?
True words
Well said demand is seriously softening for luxury items now interest rates gone up
Rolex will NOT go more down, AP/Patek may do
Good advice will wait
