So glad to see people still checking out Atheist. I grew up in Bradenton (Tampa area) in the 80s and knew a couple of the band members a little bit, so it was awesome seeing the hometown band achieve some success. Their 1st album 'Piece of Time' is still impressive for the time, but 'Unquestionable Presence' is a unique monument to creativity backed up by the technical skill to pull it off. One of those rare albums where it leaves you thinking for a few minutes after, then you immediately want to hear it again to see what you missed the last time.
What's funny is Chuck shit talked them early on, and called them posers. Then turned around and copied them without ever giving them credit as an influence. Not many know about this, but it's true.
Greatest band and album ever!! Thanks so much for checking this out. Has been my favourite since it was released. Must have listened thousands of times.
I remember buying this record when it came out ....and it took me a minute to get into it , there was no song structure which i was used to everytime they got into a nice groove boom it was gone but after awhile i just absolutely fell in love with them . Piece of time is a fantastic album by them........" on they slay " and " room with a view " must listens
Honestly I'd say the only difference between "Prog" and "Tech" is that for the majority you will find most prog bands to be not as heavy. When I think of Progressive Metal I think of bands like Dream Theater, Symphony X, Threshold. As for Technical bands I think more along the lines of Technical Death Metal. Like when I hear the word "Tech" it always right away makes me think Techdeath.
This was my one of my favorite death metal albums growing up. I wore out my cassette and was finally able to get a hold of a CD and had to pay a good amount of $$ for it. I think I had to buy it out of a relapse records catalog. Good to see that young kids like yourself are listening to the classics!!!
My favourite album from Atheist is Elements. It's quite unlike anything else they've done, basically latin/samba rhythms combined with techincal death metal, never heard anything like that before or after. So infectious. I'd suggest to listen to a short instrumental called "Samba Briza" followed with "Air".
Atheist Jupiter was one of my favourite albums when i was in middle school on 2012. As I was 15 this shit shaped me with another way. If you want some challenge try Imperial Triumphant. This guys are trio from NY and playing some dissonant jazzy metal about 30-50's imperalistic America. This guys are some nutcases and throwing some interesting stuff.
A band that for some reason never got around to. Definitely as you put it earlier 'one of those band. Technical but has an important component, hook. Keep up the good work!
HELL YEAH ❤🤘🤘💪💪 So ahead of their time. This album is legendary. So happy we got this on the channel. Can't wait to hear your thoughts on the full album!
@@imaKaiya You must visit there more often. Sometimes people bring in sizeable collections and the store will put items from the collection out in small batches.
Man, their vocalist was a jerk to me when I met him. 😒 He was acting all jealous because I wasn't trying to interview him. I was more focused on interviewing Soreption and Suffocation.
Kelly has usually been an extremely friendly guy in my experience, very receptive to fans. He does really like to talk so I guess I could see how he'd get offended by that lol.
Essentially a jazz fusion act, using the sound palette of Florida death metal. Real innovators. Love them
Way ahead of their time, along with Cynic and Nocturnus, they were pushing what death metal was and would become.
Nocturnus was wild, lake of fire is such a banger song
Nocturnus was 10000x better than both of those bands
@assrammington7961 cynic had one good album and then vanished
@@assrammington7961 maybe better as beer glas coaster. aside from a few tracks of "The Key", they couldn't even hold par.
@@metalhos now I know that you’re gay. The Key clears this polished turd and that gay art band Cynic
Man I remember my first time hearing Atheist, I didn't know how to process it. Amazing band
Great album, good for you for keeping a balance between new and old school metal.
The first song 'Mother man' of this album is already great.

Nice, me too! I tried going down to the Sarasota warehouse where a few of those bands would play on Friday nights but missed them. B-town 4 Life!
Those are some of the best albums, the ones that grow on you. They call em growers
You need to listen to Sadist. A great Italian prog death band that often gets overlooked in the prog/tech death community.
Absolutely! Tribe is one of the best albums of that era in my opinion
Atheist, Psychotic Waltz, Watchtower, Cynic, Aghora, Space Out, Death, Bolt Thrower and Kenso.
Totally ahead of their time and very groundbreaking. Chuck took a lot from them, their influence is all over the Human album
Do you mean Atheist or do you mean Cynic? Paul Masvidal and Sean Reinert from Cynic are on that Human album with Chuck.
Chuck wrote the tunes, you can hear a lot of Athiest in his later writing
What's funny is Chuck shit talked them early on, and called them posers. Then turned around and copied them without ever giving them credit as an influence. Not many know about this, but it's true.
True

R.I.P Roger Patterson

Yip. Definitely going to listen to this band a whole lot more. Thanks, Kaiya!
Saw these guys live for their first reunion tour and their latest. So good!
It's so nice to see the new generation appreciate the elders that I grew up with 🙏 Thank you and continue and keep pushing forward 🤘

I love Atheist, and really love where they went with Jupiter. Just saw them live this summer with Cynic, was an amazing show.

Yeah it's more tech than prog. Now you need to listen to cynic
I had this cd in my player for at least 6 months, it's amazing.
a bit of a hectic song all over the place to start off with Atheist but its def a banger!
Beautiful reaction , Gorgeous Kaiya 🌹
Incuestionable presencia & Pieza del tiempo, que discazos por favor!!!
Cynic Focus has to be next then. Maybe Uroboric Forms or Textures.
Awesome, awesome review :)
Waaaaaay ahead of it's time
Hell Yes! 😊
I'd call their genre something like 'Jazz-Influenced Progressive Death/Thrash Metal'
Mineral !!! and the whole Elements album
Awesome!!! This album rules!!!! ❤ 😀 ❤ 👍
someone should have told that girl it's technical not just thrash death 'one of those bands' lol
Holy shit!
Atheist at a thrift shop?
I know! I even found Napalm Death's Scum there and I was shocked.

nice

In my opinion they've made better songs. Mother Man is probably the one id recommend to new listeners.

I can't speak for Kelly, but the few times I met Rand or Roger (late 80s or so) they were super friendly and easy going.

Maybe I caught him on an off day.

if I was in that situation I would also most likely be a "jerk" if I expected to be interviewed but the other bands got interviews instead...
@@michaelkarlsson5966
I can't get everyone.
Jazz is antimusic.
I like supporting your channel, but I’m not listening to a band called Atheist
Cry a fucking river
You can listen outside of your bubble if you take a step back, I promise.
