"his natural voice is Tiduss"..... Uuuuh... yeah... I think that's mostly the point of Voice acting, unless you're doing unrealistic voice, you know ? ... Your comment is like saying "bruhhh Tom Cruise is naturally looking like Ethan Hunt"
Hearing his voice takes me back to my Sophomore year of highschool. Makes me happy and sad at the same time. I remember coming home from school one day and playing ffx straight to 10pm. I hadn't done a lick of homework and it was time to go to bed, haha, aw man, I miss those days.
Exactly my thoughts and feelings... I used to invite my high school best friend so we can take times playing battles, defeating bosses and sphere grinding our character... Man I wish I could travel back in time!
Incredible, this game has such an impact on my childhood, I had a poster of Tidus with the water sword on my bedroom wall, I'd stare at it as I went to sleep every night. I'm now in my 20's with a family and I still think back to those times fondly. Once my kids are old enough I'm going to play FFX with them as my dad did with me when I was a kid.
When it comes to voice acting for an ff game, not only was he the gold standard, he was a pioneer! He was the official voice of the first official verbal ff protagonist. 19 years now! WOW!
There's a man who understand his craft. If only everyone could empathise with the characters in a videogame like that. FFX isn't a divisive game really, but there are a lot of people who just don't get it, and that's a shame.
If you are going to act the character, you kind of have to, though? If you don't understand the character, what drives and motivates them and why they are the way they are, how can you accurately act them and make it seem convincing? Like sure, voice acting is simpler in the sense that it has no other physical aspect more than lending a character your voice, but that voice can make or break our understanding of what the character is like. Simple things like the way you phrase and emphasize the words in a sentence, or even the words delivered and when, make for a big difference in whether someone's angry, sad or what have you, and not just that, it says something about how they see things in general and how they approach and understand the world around them. In essence, if you see the characters in a video game not as characters in a video game but first of all people with a story, I think you will also find that your approach towards the character in question may change. It's not just a plot device so you can get your best item before the final fight, but it's an item that the character put a lot of effort into acquiring before a decisive fight that makes or breaks whether they will live or die, and with them, the entire world. Video games are interesting as a medium because they are both audiovisual like movies and TV series but they also dynamic insofar the immersion offered is based upon the player's choice and how they interact with the game world. If you play the game where you just grind your levels and resources as much as possible and then just rush through the story, yeah, you won't really connect or try to understand the world and the characters in it which is fine, but trying to understand something isn't more difficult than to exert our basic sense of imagination and envision what it'd be like if we were in that world and in that specific situation. That's what I think, at least. And unless you possess no imagination it is something which can be learned and honed by trying to envision something outside our current experience and understanding of something and instead try to see it from someone else's perspective.
James Arnold Taylor is the man. I highly enjoyed his performance in FFX. Hearing him talk about the game with the score playing makes me want to go back and play through it again.
Thanks a lot, Mr. Taylor, thanks a lot for being my childhood Tidus voice. I just finished the game one more time today as a 33 year old guy, yet it feels just like 20 years ago❤
I liked tidus, he was cocoky and said some stupid things. But he was cheerful, loyal, caring to others who were nice to him, he was determined in scenes. He was less whiny as the game went on and he was realistic in ways.
His character is the perfect way to show players to the world of Spira. We see through his eyes and watch as one second he's in home town, the next he's an alien in a foreign world. The way Tidus questions everything about this strange new world is how the player might - if the player was in Tidus' shoes. These type of questions do not seem out of place, it's a great excuse to explain the details of the world to the player without making dialogue too expositional. Both the player and Tidus are outsiders of Spira. This understanding or connection with the character, for me, makes him one of the best FF protagonists.
This is my favourite video game of all time. The story development was amazing. I cried at the end and it bridged me into Kingdom Hearts. FFX id definitely the best FF and video game IMO.
10 was fantastic but in my opinion it's not the best, that's 7 for me. 10 is easily in the top 3 for me though. I'm actually playing X-2 as I type this lol
The song playing in the backgroud is FFX Macalania Forest. I spent time listening to the whole soundtrack so you dont have to for a beautiful relaxing piece like this
It's aways weird hearing one of your favorite voices in interviews bc your hearing your character's voice and just in awe like this is basically tidus talking in all this lol idk
May I just say one thing: Thank you for being Tidus. Thank you for being my favorite protagonist. Thank you so much. Your work made me rejoyce, made me cry, but most importantly, made voice acting part of my life. And I absolutely love the laughing scene. This was the scene that made me love Tidus and your work. Overall, thank you so much, Mr. Taylor.
@c0118oy The Japanese version of FFX came with a dvd that had these interviews on it. As far as I know, this one "James Arnold Taylor" and the "Hedy Burress" are the only interviews that are on the disc.
Thank you for this video, man. It brings a lot of great memories. It's so nice how some things get a place in our hearts like this game, its amazing storyline and Tidus's voice especially (imho). I sympathized very much with his character, his thoughts and his struggles through the game.
Tidus is a unique, gender-neutral name of Japanese origin. Coming from an Okinawan dialect, this name means "sun." Okinawa is a coral island of Japan and the largest island of the Ryukyu islans, known for its heavy history during World War II.

FFX fans should watch Drawn Together. It's pretty mindblowing (not to mention a direct hit to the childhood) to imagine that Tidus's adorable laugh came from the same VA who voiced a poorly-conceived Spongebob/Ren and Stimpy hybrid who said "'Nobody likes fat chicks! Wheee!"
Happy B-day James Arnold Taylor. Star Wars The Clone Wars and Tales of the Jedi is awesome. Episode 7 The Force Awakens is awesome movie. Battlefront 2, other Battlefront 2 in 2005. Kool games. I love Star Wars. All the movies is my first favorite. All of them. Ben 10 Alien Force, Ultimate Alien is great. Drawn Together is great. Kim Possible is amazing, Disney shows, r pretty kool. Yes it's meant to be Tee-dus, but because his name can be chosen by the player you never hear it. It come from the Okinawan language and means Sun. At first I thought it was to do with Tide because the sea and stuff but nope.
its Tie-dus if you speak english, because its a normal english name. the original japanese name is "Tida" (pronounced Tee-da), and was changed/westernized into Tidus. so Tidus is not a japanese word/name, its an english one. so it should be pronounced as an english word. another example is Cecil from FF IV. his original name is Seshiru, but we dont pronounce it anything like that. we use the westernized Cecil, and pronounce it as such.
It's "Tee-dus", because it's like his Japanese name but slightly westernised. Also, Cecil was always Cecil. Japanese people pronounce it "Seshiru", sure, but the name was always the same.
Tidus "Teedus" comes from the Okinawan "Tida" which means Sun. Yuuna is Okinawan for Moon. Incidentally, those are the items needed to unlock their respective Celestial Weapons (Sun crest/sigil, Moon Crest/sigil). But yes, to Westerners like us Ty-dus sounds more natural (like Titus).
I just realised James is the same age as Cube, all the cats born in the 60s generation, they gettin' old now, that's just crazy as hell, past their prime and just gettin' on with their work.
That shouldn’t mean anything though. Sure, James is in his early 50s now, but he still sounds just as youthful as ever. His voice hasn’t aged a bit. That doesn’t happen with many people.
All goods, I know it don't mean anythin', I know his in his early 50s, just sayin' how young spirited he still is, he ain't aged very much, there's many out there though.
Past their prime appearance wise maybe but James is bigger than ever these days with his Clone Wars fame, doing Obi Wan and wrapping up season 7 of clone wars!
I love youre voice.even if sqaull s story exactly how i was in my teenage years.you gafe so mutch emotion to tidus.im nof able to cry but i wish i could in the spring scene were tidus dont want yuna to mery semor.
teedus? man i cant get over that, the theme of the game is islands/water/religion ITS FUCKIN "TIDE US" spelt TIDUS OR TITUS. no amount of hate will change my mind on that. i will die on this hill, with valor.

I don't think this guy realizes how legendary his voice is
Oh, he is *very* aware of the memes. He even made a few of his own.
He should have been the next sonic.
If he only began with, "Listen to my story..."
Very aware and loves it
bruhhh even his natural voice is Tiduss
GaileeSims 😂😂😂😂😂😂 so fuckin right! 😂😂😂
@Ben Baxter yeee

@@LeKain08 "unless you're doing unrealistic voice" you got it mate, think again
@@LeKain08 Many voice actors don't use their normal every day voice for a character, particularly career voice actors who voice a lot of characters.
Hearing his voice takes me back to my Sophomore year of highschool. Makes me happy and sad at the same time. I remember coming home from school one day and playing ffx straight to 10pm. I hadn't done a lick of homework and it was time to go to bed, haha, aw man, I miss those days.

This Voice brings back so many memories its so sad

Bro a time when social media didn’t exist. No toxic people. None of that crap
I think his voice is perfect for Tidus :)
I love the character of Tidus and in due time, I found the voice actor. Even when he speaks normally, he sounds like Tidus. The voice fits perfectly.
Almost. His natural speaking voice is more like Ratchet though. :)
Wisdom Speaker ikr? His voice totally fits a high school or even freshman year college guy! 🌺👍🏻😄
When I closed my eyes, it was as if Tidus was being interviewed.

Blitz ball is my shit.
FFX was blessed to have James Arnold Taylor as Tidus.
The first FF's main protagonist voice actor, and still the best! Love you, JAT you are part of my childhood. ^^v
One of the many voices of my childhood
I never would've thought the same VA for Tidus would voice Obi Wan
James Arnold Taylor is the man. I highly enjoyed his performance in FFX. Hearing him talk about the game with the score playing makes me want to go back and play through it again.
It always weirds me out seeing voice actors for the first time because I always expect them to look exactly like the characters they play.
Micheál Ó Baoighill actually he does lol and even his normal voice sounds like Tidus
Well they're both blonde and blue eyed
He's legendary even here in France back in the days we didn't have french voice acting i swear he teached me a lot of english when i was a kid XD
england is just a nautical miles away from france and you need JAT to learn english? 😁
Thanks a lot, Mr. Taylor, thanks a lot for being my childhood Tidus voice. I just finished the game one more time today as a 33 year old guy, yet it feels just like 20 years ago❤
This guy is amazing.
Tidus is a very misunderstood character and underrated. I don't think that he's the best protagonist, but still amazing for what he was
He's more of a realistic protagonist, you can relate to how he feels and how he's handing the situation he's in.
I liked tidus, he was cocoky and said some stupid things. But he was cheerful, loyal, caring to others who were nice to him, he was determined in scenes. He was less whiny as the game went on and he was realistic in ways.

Who would’ve ever guessed Tidus & Kenobi have the same voice actor!
Expected from him starting the video with "listen to my story" but with his real face
He didn't do a voice for Tidus....he just did his own voice....perfect...
i so love his voice and so does his face. i think im inlove with him
I actually like the voice.
The guy did a great job as tidus 🥰🥰🥰
Sounds like Michael J. Fox.
Love the raspiness of his voice.
Him and Troy Baker really do inspire me :)
"I can totally relate to how he reacts to things."
"A-HA-HA-HA-HA!"
lmao
That's not an reaction.
You're stupid
"There are like 9000 lines of dialogue"
I bet one of it involves:
"A-HA-HA-HA-HA!!"
Haha, I can't not see Ratchet and Tidus in my head.
I don’t understand why everyone complain about Tidus’ voice, personally I think JAT did an outstanding job.
My entire life i've said Tide'us, i'm not changing it to tee'dus now xD
its always tide-us, never teedus

This guy was the best actor in the entire game, apparently.
Square should've recruited him, his voice definitely suits to Tidus' personality.

Geez, I never knew. This world is so small.
He is so totally out of this world.
He has the voice of his character 😍.
something about this video hits like a truck, it's a fever dream to watch this man talk about FF10.

Its Tee-dus, but Tie-dus sounds much better
