Fun fact: In Diego’s “death” scene, he was originally supposed to die for real, but it made all the kids in the test audience cry, so they had him live instead. Also, when I was a kid, I thought Manny’s baby in the cave painting flashback WAS Manny and that the humans killed his parents. It wasn’t until a few years later when I realized that Manny is actually the father in the flashback, and that the humans killed his mate and calf. Kudos to this movie for going a little extra dark with that scene.

The second vase a pretty good sequel continuing the family trend and for as outlandish the third and fourth get still kept the same spirit.
Amadeus Smith - Yes, I heard about that as well. I think Bluth turned it down because he was ready to retire, although the financial failure of Titan AE might have also had something to do with it.
I have to mention two things 1. I will always adore stuff like Manny's flashback, like Anakin's vison of the future and Moses' Nightmare 2. while it is genuinely sad, I do love that joke from High Boi that this isn't even his backstory, he's just really empathetic
The first one is defiantly the best one. I love how the humans don't talk but the animals do. That allows for the animation to do it's job and show the mood with silence and atmosphere with the expressions to tell the story. And the scene with Manny in the cave. Still heartbreaking. It's a shame the other movies had to be so disappointing and bad. The ONLY positive thing that came from the franchise continuing, is Buck. And I fucking LOVE that bat shit crazy weasel! XD He is the best part of the whole series, his insanity just brings me so much joy.
SisterhoodofXMETAS Everyone knows part 1 is the best lol. They pretty much made it more kid friendly after part 1. Part 1 will always be a classic to me though.
@@anitelufalemei4200 yeah Kids this days play T-M rated games like Call of Duty and Team Fortress 2 so they are not gonna give fuck about dumb kiddie cutsie shit from those sequels (at least and ESPECIALLY 4 and 5)
I quite enjoyed the antics in the Lost World. Also, why do people hate the baby? He doesn't make that much trouble, and he is definitely not the ugliest thing out there.
looking back at the film, it does have a subtle character arc for Manny: being nice to the family at the beginning (if abit rude) and helping Sid because he "hates creatures who just kill to kill". it's nice to see why when the main story unfolds and we see why he was such a loner and hateful towards others and it grows into a nice character arc though the series. makes the films look abit smarter now.
Grainne or Grace Wuinn I think we all understand that easily. Just don't put the picture of Manny and his killed parents on the list of things in Ice Age we missed, WatchMojo!!!
That would be cool. But it would be 2D animation if Titan A.E. makes box office success and Blue Sky never get that opportunity to make Ice Age. But thankfully things change, at least The first movie.
The cave predicted all the sequels. The fish: piranha or the 2 monster fish from the second movie The dinosaur: duh, third movie The sloth thats posed like a ape: kinda reminds you of Captain Gutt from the forth movie The UFO: at the start of the fifth movie
Moriah pink12 the fifth films antagonists are actually 3 dino birds that want revenge on buck that somehow change from bad guy to good guy at the end of the movie
TheSweetPinkCutie on the contrary Gutt was initially written as a bear instead of an ape but was changed at the request of character designer Peter De Seve because he had trouble designing an urisine villain and thought an ape character would be more versatile.
Let's not forget that the first movie mentioned Sid's parents leaving without him every year. Plus, the cave paintings of the first movie lead to Manny having a renewed family, starting with the second movie.
It's actually not prediction/foreshadowing at all... producer Lori Forte _told_ the studio go back to that scene to use it for ideas for sequels (becos she shot down logical, consistent ideas such as Roshan coming back slightly older or delving into the repercussions of Diego's choice to betray his sabre pack at the end) which shows a lack of ideas for plotlines going forward since they just used that cave scene as a fallback for sequel ideas instead of organically fleshing out plot points _from the first movie_ into the next movies.
I really love this movie. It was my personal favorite as a kid. And I feel that the sequels are unnessecary. If they wanted to make a sequel, they should have made a sequel with them reuniting with the baby.
[ If they wanted to make a sequel, they should have made a sequel with them reuniting with the baby.] Yeah, this has been my own thoughts on that for years... I would to each sequel hoping that our IA1 herd would be reuniting with the baby (Roshan) again, and what new dramatic and exciting stories might come from such a storyline, and each time I was denied that one wish. I also think this is why IA5 bombed so terribly, because audiences/the fanbase had been expecting/hoping to see Roshan/humans return in a meaningful role for some time and as the franchise kept getting more and more ungrounded - especially compared to IA1 - people were so disappointed which is why IA5 was the first Ice Age sequel to not make a profit becos audience expectations kept being denied.
When I was younger, I liked this movie, but... I didn't really remembered what the hell happened, but I remembered the God awful sequels, and I enjoyed them... Now that I'm older, I'm happy I get to rewatch the movie, and I can appreciate movies, not just for being funny. After watching reviews like these, it's impossible to give at least a bit of praise to this movies they watch... Also... But they had to kill it by milking as much money as they can, while making those damn sequels... You're not missing out on anything good...
My thoughts on the ice age movies Ice age-Great movie Ice age 2-a solid sequel Ice age 3-My favorite of the sequels Ice age 4-not the worst but pretty bad Ice age 5-This franchise just needs to extinct already.
I remember being a kid and loving this film. I first saw it in the kid’s fun room on a cruise. My parents later got the film on VSH (you know, like cassettes but with video.). I remember not really understanding some of the darker undertones like that painted cave wall bit. It wasn’t until years later when I randomly remembered this movie and watched it as an adult or near adult that I understood those scenes and appreciated the movie all the more.
Here’s a summary of each ice age movie! 1: Really funny and not afraid of going to some dark places. 2: A bit too comical but mostly harmless. 3: Honestly, this is the best sequel. 4: Has it’s moments. But seriously though, stop! 5: YOU ARE JUST THE GRAND CENTRAL STATION OF DISAPPOINTMENT AREN’T YOU?!?! (I haven’t seen the fifth one, but from what I’ve read and heard about it, I don’t think it’s worth it.)
I've just got to say, this and the next two movies were my childhood, nothing can convince me that Ice Age 3, Dawn of the Dinosaurs, isn't the peak of cinema.

I've always liked this movie. It certainly has a lot of heart and will always be superior to it's sequels. What annoyed me about the sequels is that they never mention the humans nor the baby anywhere and they act like everything that happened in this movie never happened at all. To be honest, I think Ice Age would have been better off with no sequels. I'm not saying they were bad but they just don't give me the same laughter and feels as this movie does.

You got a lot of bad points here. Most of the comedy is to rather balance the tone of the scene. That's why it uses these jokes. Also, there are also really great dialogue jokes that are FAR from being stupid. And, the villains, while not the best, are freaking animals. Everyone here acts like an animal. Diego needs to ultimately be conflicted on what he wants to do, either taking care of the baby or killing the other characters. Yeah, sure, in terms of writing the story is predictable, but you are one of those people who really talk down to things if you have negative points on them. However, most of your points are rather solid and are everyone's issues with the feature, but talked down and with really had audio. I am not saying you have to like this film, but as a critic you have to look at all of those points. And, if you try to proof your point by "yeah, sure" joke, than you rather check the notes.
