Phish is still one of my favorite bands of all time. They are all so magnificently talented it's unreal. Started listening to them when I used lots of drugs, now clean and sober and I love them just the same! Just fantastic.
I just saw them in Chula Vista "NICU" clean and sober except for green, ain't stopping that. (no illegal drugs in 9yrs or drink in 4yrs) I actually like it better without all the drugs tbh. Much diff from my first Phish show in 95.

The first time I heard Phish was their greatest live hits album, Slip Stitch and Pass. That was released in October of 1997, and here they are in 2013 still sounding as fresh as ever!!! I've never seen them live, so thank goodness for their live recordings

I'm probably the only one, but I prefer the groove songs more than the more cubist composition ones, (although I might like those better if I was on LSD and and mind expanded). TAB has a higher percentage of groove songs than Phish. Been to concerts of both. Moatly I'm a Trey-aholic and prefer TAB.
Im glad trey got himself cleaned up not because i have anything against drugs or users i just dont want the show to ever stop phish is like cartoons great for keeping the soul young no matter how old i get im still gona be a dancing fool with a 3 coned cap dancing barefoot in his front yard
Jerry Garcia gave his insight about drugs when they put out their PSAs about people coming to shows without tickets.. he pretty much said that drugs are a personal thing and if you choose to do them then that is your call. ya know what I mean? to each their own. i don't think john was encouraging drugs haha trey was all fucked up. my dad was at Coventry and said it was absolutely treacherous.makes me grateful trey is clean and sounding just as good as ever !
Me too brother. I spent over a decade on tour and never understood it until I myself wound up in prison detoxing from heroin in a prison cell after getting busted on the road. I still boogie, but I'm 3 years sober and do it without drugs now. I'll never throw shade cuz I did it and did it big but I'm hopeful those who do get down will find their way like I did but not have to go through what I did to find it.

I am more used to seeing some headbanging and some moshing. Different strokes for different folks I suppose.
9999NSW9999 lol. Generic. They played 250 different songs this year. Improvised different ones nightly. They change keys on the fly (unheard of in rock) vs modes which is easy whereas no one else in rock does that inc them until the past 5 yrs. and they have twenty songs that are as hard to play as any in rock. They build the best peaks in live music as well as original jazz/funk textures nightly, have the same light guy, best light show, and he follows ever bit of improv and all have remained friends over 30 yrs. they have no "must play" singles and at 52 yrs never becAme a nostalgia act. What have you done? And they did it without a marquee singer voice like bono or eddie Vedder . One crummy video and yet built a monster grassroots following that sells out MSG 3 nights in a row annually, draw 50-70k to 3 day festivals playing 200 shows a year for twenty years. And now a play few less and take their kids to school and live decent family lives. They still charge reasonable prices and were the first to offer videos of their biggest shows. More than a a handful of top musicians have called trey the modern Mozart of rock, and as a cohesive unit they have no equals in rock. Everyone has different taste and Lots of great bands out there in pop, rock, jazz, funk, and bluegrass with great songs and phish has some duds like everyone but what they deliver is a unique mix all their own, nightly, most built around the live experience, and you call them generic? Playing as well as ever and considering they have kids, and have to juggle and shuffle a 250 song catalog with a large chunk with ridiculous diminished and chromatic passages with odd time signatures to keep tight- its amazing what they continue to do. But you obviously don't play an instrument well or no shit about what it takes to do what they do. Or are just a goofball trolling. I have seen everybody of any note starting with the Dead in 91 and phish since 92 thru this year and if you don't appreciate then please save a seat for someone who gets how special they are. And like any band most of us older folk enjoy, listen to tons of other music in the car and at home and hit a few shows a year to keep it fresh and special. You don't have to like them, but i don't go on biscuit or widespread videos to dis what makes someone happy. Who has time for that nonsense?
