Same thing happened to me in Paris. My friends and I got on the subway and suddenly there were 3 teenagers badgering us for the time. A lady next to us spoke in English and said don't talk to them they are trying to distract and steal from you. They left quickly after they saw that we moved away from them. We were very grateful to lady who warned us.
Had to watch it again - you can see her reach into the lady's bag as she's pushed up into her. Nice of the person behind the thief to pull her shoulder back. Little Ms. Pickpocket was annoyed :D
I followed a pickpocket in Vegas. He was acting drunk and wobbly, and always seemed to wobble into people that were approaching, which made me look closer to confirm my suspicions. You could see his hands moving quickly in the moment of opportunity. No one who'd been bumped into seemed to suspect that the contact had been purposeful, so I guess he was pretty good. When he went into a casino I alerted security, but I don't know how the story ended. No real point other than to share, but perhaps it does illustrate that sometimes you will not know for sure what's up, which will prevent even a good and brave person from taking action. Saw a guy in Walmart in the tool section, not long ago -- seemed like he was putting stuff into his pockets. Couldn't tell though... Was a black guy, too, which made me reluctant to get involved for fear of being a suspicious creep to an innocent man. Coulda been putting back a Kleenex. "F-it..." I said & kept shopping. While waiting for a bus, watched an aggressive street dude really pestering a girl, asking her for money. She seemed distressed and when they passed by I put my hand on his chest and said, "She has no money for you." He was astonished & then angry that I'd deprived him of his prey. He walked around the block mumbling to himself, and when he came back around I was still there. Came very close then to a ferocious fight between two tough dudes. And what if he'd had a knife?Later, saw the chick & she was very grateful, so it was worth it, but... you can die in a dumb way out of the blue if you step in. The chicken life is safer & easier.
I saw a guy grab a gypsy on the underground in Rome. He had her up against the wall of the train demanding she return his wallet. She kept saying she didn't have it. At that point he started shaking her and what do you know, the wallet suddenly fell to the ground.
If you do a search for "Barcelona metro pickpockets", you'll find that they have patrols made up of volunteers from all nationalities resident in the city, who actively intervene when they catch someone in the act, in addition to warn passengers when they see the usual suspects on the platforms or on the trains.
It's insane that when I was in Paris and on the metro there was an announcement that said "attention passengers, there is several pickpockets on board, please watch your stuff carefully and stay safe" every single time we stopped at a station

The video helps a bit, hope the algorithm pushes it to locals and people planning to visit. Pickpocketing is unfortunately quite common in Europes touristy places that have packed streets and public transport. I always make sure I don't keep anything valuable in my pockets and my bag/purse must have a zipper. I make sure the zipper is closed and when in a crowded public area I hold onto the part where the zipper ends

Me and my mother were in Paris about a month ago and the Parisians are just lovely. The way they let tourists and each other know that there are pickpockets. A man kept repeating to us before he got of the train that there were pickpockets … then the whole train started shouting pickpockets and pointing at them and then a musician that played and accordion staring singing about them. It was great. They ran off the train at the next stop
@@sakoupa even in Paris, you typically need evidence to arrest someone. And the police can't be everywhere at once. It's better for civilians to help prevent a crime from happening at all instead of waiting for it to happen then calling the cops.

I have a few immigrant/ brown skinned fiends that explained the concept of situational awareness: they say they are always aware of who is where and what is going on at all times: must be heavy! I've seen a man that follows and films pickpockets in Rome shouting as they've got their hands in peoples bags and chasing them shouting "PICKPOCKET" in Italian. It is awesome to watch.

In 1981 my dad took my two sisters and me to Paris. He was a commercial airline pilot at the time, and flew to Paris regularly. Before we got on the Metro he warned us about pickpockets and to keep out purses out of reach. The car was not crowded, but I noticed a man was standing close to my dad's back. I didn't think much of it at the time. After we got off the car, my dad discovered his wallet was gone. That guy had picked his pocket! Irony to the max.

My brother in law almost got pickpocketed in the Paris Metro. He was shocked about it so couldn’t say anything. But since there were 8 of us in our group, the pickpocketer got too scared to leave the train with us. As the doors closed back on him, I yelled out “PICKPOCKET!” and pointed at the guy. As the train was leaving, you could see the entire crowd on the train step away from this man. What an awkward train ride for him. 😂

But his stupidity didn't end there, he was also so unaware of his surrounding that he failed to notice another 6ft2 mean mofo sitting right there 😂 I saw him try it, the the 2 of us cornered him and kicked him out on the next stop 😅

You should keep it close to your body and carry a decoy if you’re traveling in an unfamiliar area with a lot of pickpockets. When I travelled through Europe, I wore a vest with inside pockets.

I was robbed twice on London underground. These thieves are very adept and you don't feel a thing. They especially come out at Christmas because they know many people are heading home to their families. They warch you and wait for the moment to pounce. It's such a wicked way to behave towards your fellow man.
When my sisters were in Paris a few years ago, they went to breakfast at the hotel right before getting on the train. One of them dumped a whole jar of Nutella in her small purse and purposely left it unzipped. A pickpocket got a nice surprise when she reached into the bag. She started swearing (in French of course) as everyone on the train cracked up. My sister is a GENIUS!!! 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
They tried that with me in the Paris metro too. I noticed it and pushed her of me. But honestly this and the amount of people wanting to scam you doesn't make me want to go to Paris again anytime.

This is why traditionally men would protect women and children. Modernity forces women that were raised correctly who would probably be good mothers and wives to have to go into this cut throat world and they just got harassed and stolen from constantly and even worse happens. It's important to know that in Paris, pickpockets risk nothing, especially if they don't have any form of identification. At worst, they'll go to the police station and be told that stealing is bad.
They just say they are 17 and are let go by the police after spending 1 hour at the police station. Policemen catch the same thieves multiple times a day and sadly have to let them go.

This happened to me in Vienna. We had been warned to watch for pick pockets. I was boarding the train and this girl shoved herself beside me. I saw her hand going in and I grabbed ahold of it and yelled STOP! She ran down the aisle and out the rear door. You have to be on guard all the time!

In 2011 I relocated to Paris for 2 years, I was pickpocketed inside a metro within my 2nd week and lost my debit and credit cards. This was before I had the opportunity to open a local bank account. The process of getting my back from back home to issue me with the new cards was lengthy and scary, without money in a foreign country. Thankfully I got to know my apartment mate better as he was super charitable during my cashless stint. He is a gentleman Poland, to this day I have my utmost respect and admiration for Polish people as he was a true ambassador.
All of the Polish people I have known have been wonderful people very generous as well. We were introduce to a couple from Poland, they lived in the neighborhood and they had a dinner in mine and my husband's honor, just because they liked us and they made amazing food. My dad had his wallet stolen on holiday years ago. He was walking through a park and suddenly got lots of bird crap on him. A guy 'helped' him to clean up and when he went back to the hotel to change clothes his wallet was missing. He reported it to the hotel and local police but nothing was done about it. Years later he saw the same guy in a different place and took the guys picture then shared it on Facebook with a warning about what he had done.

You could tell the way that they got on first, set up a zone offence, and waited for their marks to be corralled towards one or the other with coordinated movements. All women, all bleach bottle blondes, one is chewing on gum like a camel and all from "traveller" families that live in these pimped out caravans, hence the familial similarities. Tbf, they are highly prejudiced against in Europe, and as a result, aren't given citizenship within many countries they try to live in, which makes it impossible to secure employment without paperwork. As such, what else can they do to support themselves and/or their families if you can't apply and/or maintain a legal job? You can't apply for government programs or assistance. You can't enrol your children into school. You're at the mercy of those who pay under the table because these employers know that they can get away with human rights and employment abuses because no one is going to protect them. With that sort of ingrained societal exclusion, they'd feel no loyalty to the social contract public. So, from their historical perspective and jaded worldview, why not view individual members of society at large as pawns to feed off of??? It would be an interesting socio-economic study if the morals of it weren't so fucked up.
This happened to me and a friend on the metro in Paris last year. 4 young girls were all in it together. Fortunately we had nothing taken but a few of the zippers on our security packs were opened. A kind Spanish-speaking woman helped warn us about them when they were attempting it. It happened during rush hour when it was most crowded. Scary!
Solution is simple. Do not take 20 thousand euro in cash. Do not take 10 thousand dollars worth of gold around your neck and wrists. Do not buy a 30 thousand euro phone every month. Do not make yourself the obvious victim!

That's enough proof that nothing can stop pickpockets, whether you have expensive things or not.... So i guess the realistic solutions would be to find a way to lock your bags, try to somehow avoid crowded spaces and most importantly, ALWAYS pay attention to your surroundings at any given moment or situation.
This is why I don't carry a purse or bag at all. I have a little tiny credit card size wallet and I either keep in my bra or in a deep front pocket. I don't tuck my tshirts in either so no way to get into my front pocket without moving my jacket out of the way & lifting my tshirt. So these skanks would be out of luck.
This is very familiar I actually caught a pickpocket as we were stepping on the Metro I was one of the last few people through the door there was a young woman with a very small purse on a very long strap hanging Loosely on her shoulder not across her chest. The man in front of me had quickly unzipped and she seemed totally unaware of his hand was on her wallet he took it out of her wallet I took it out of his hand and he just Shrugged his shoulders stepped off and the doors closed. I told her she should watch her purse more carefully she said she always did and I pointed out her unzipped purse and held up her wallet if you're going to have a purse have a mini zippered purse so they won't have the foggiest idea of which one to go for first or don't even have your money or your important papers anywhere near your purse. Carry them elsewhere.
When I lived in NYC, I was on the subway and a guy put his hand in my back pocket to check for a wallet. I yelled, “Watch your stuff! He’s picking pockets!” Everyone ignored me. As soon as the doors opened, the pick pocket grabbed a guy’s wallet and fled. Then people started accusing me of being an accomplice.🙄

When I was in ROME in the 80s I walked around a lot and whenever I stopped I could feel little hands rummaging around in my pockets. Empty pockets are the shits for a pickpocket, no backpack and travel light. Wear passport,visas tickets etc in pouch worn around neck. Mine was made by my wife.
In London, if you get on public transport, and have people behind still wanting to get on, and you stand blocking the door, you will find yourself being aggressively moved
In NYC you are pushed or shoved. Rightly so. They have the right to do so when you’re obstructing entry that can potentially be a fire hazard or keeping someone passage into a public place.
In the current days that's a good way to get shot in Arkansas. I had to watch it 10 times just to see it. We don't have pick pockets around here. I've left my wallet in store shopping carts twice, went back and it was still there lol.

That girl in the Paris cap is well known. I've seen her many times, they ride the same metro line and everytime the get in, the driver announces "Beware of pickpockets". The sad part is there's no use in reporting them to authorities. Wether they're minors or just paperless, they will only get a slap in the hand and released almost immediately.

I always make sure I don't keep anything valuable in my pockets and my bag/purse must have a zipper. I make sure the zipper is closed and when in a crowded public area I hold onto the part where the zipper ends

Me and my mother were in Paris about a month ago and the Parisians are just lovely. The way they let tourists and each other know that there are pickpockets. A man kept repeating to us before he got of the train that there were pickpockets … then the whole train started shouting pickpockets and pointing at them and then a musician that played and accordion staring singing about them. It was great. They ran off the train at the next stop

When I went to NYC I had a dud wallet with a bunch of old receipts in it. Razor blades are good for other countries, though.
In 1981 my dad took my two sisters and me to Paris. He was a commercial airline pilot at the time, and flew to Paris regularly. Before we got on the Metro he warned us about pickpockets and to keep out purses out of reach. The car was not crowded, but I noticed a man was standing close to my dad's back. I didn't think much of it at the time. After we got off the car, my dad discovered his wallet was gone. That guy had picked his pocket! Irony to the max.
My dad got pickpocketed in Italy and I’ll always remember. My dad had cancer, walked w a cane and was 60. Dude picked him and he realized as the train door closed. My dad ripped that door open and chased the dude down and caught his dumbass. Bro was shocked that my dad even did that lmao. Then my dad was offered by police to beat bro lmao. That’s one of the best memory’s I have of him.

But since there were 8 of us in our group, the pickpocketer got too scared to leave the train with us. As the doors closed back on him, I yelled out “PICKPOCKET!” and pointed at the guy. I was robbed twice on London underground. These thieves are very adept and you don't feel a thing. They especially come out at Christmas because they know many people are heading home to their families. They warch you and wait for the moment to pounce. It's important to know that in Paris, pickpockets risk nothing, especially if they don't have any form of identification. At worst, they'll go to the police station and be told that stealing is bad.
They just say they are 17 and are let go by the police after spending 1 hour at the police station. Policemen catch the same thieves multiple times a day and sadly have to let them go.

In 2011 I relocated to Paris for 2 years, I was pickpocketed inside a metro within my 2nd week and lost my debit and credit cards. This was before I had the opportunity to open a local bank account. The process of getting my back from back home to issue me with the new cards was lengthy and scary, without money in a foreign country. Thankfully I got to know my apartment mate better as he was super charitable during my cashless stint. He is a gentleman Poland, to this day I have my utmost respect and admiration for Polish people as he was a true ambassador.

My dad had his wallet stolen on holiday years ago. He was walking through a park and suddenly got lots of bird crap on him. A guy 'helped' him to clean up and when he went back to the hotel to change clothes his wallet was missing. He reported it to the hotel and local police but nothing was done about it. Years later he saw the same guy in a different place and took the guys picture then shared it on Facebook with a warning about what he had done.

You can't apply for government programs or assistance. You can't enrol your children into school. You're at the mercy of those who pay under the table because these employers know that they can get away with human rights and employment abuses because no one is going to protect them.
With that sort of ingrained societal exclusion, they'd feel no loyalty to the social contract public. So, from their historical perspective and jaded worldview, why not view individual members of society at large as pawns to feed off of???
It would be an interesting socio-economic study if the morals of it weren't so fucked up.
This happened to me and a friend on the metro in Paris last year. 4 young girls were all in it together. Fortunately we had nothing taken but a few of the zippers on our security packs were opened. A kind Spanish-speaking woman helped warn us about them when they were attempting it. It happened during rush hour when it was most crowded. Scary!
Solution is simple. Do not take 20 thousand euro in cash. Do not take 10 thousand dollars worth of gold around your neck and wrists. Do not buy a 30 thousand euro phone every month. Do not make yourself the obvious victim!

That's enough proof that nothing can stop pickpockets, whether you have expensive things or not.... So i guess the realistic solutions would be to find a way to lock your bags, try to somehow avoid crowded spaces and most importantly, ALWAYS pay attention to your surroundings at any given moment or situation.
This is why I don't carry a purse or bag at all. I have a little tiny credit card size wallet and I either keep in my bra or in a deep front pocket. I don't tuck my tshirts in either so no way to get into my front pocket without moving my jacket out of the way & lifting my tshirt. So these skanks would be out of luck.

This is very familiar I actually caught a pickpocket as we were stepping on the Metro I was one of the last few people through the door there was a young woman with a very small purse on a very long strap hanging Loosely on her shoulder not across her chest. The man in front of me had quickly unzipped and she seemed totally unaware of his hand was on her wallet he took it out of her wallet I took it out of his hand and he just Shrugged his shoulders stepped off and the doors closed. I told her she should watch her purse more carefully she said she always did and I pointed out her unzipped purse and held up her wallet if you're going to have a purse have a mini zippered purse so they won't have the foggiest idea of which one to go for first or don't even have your money or your important papers anywhere near your purse. Carry them elsewhere.

When I lived in NYC, I was on the subway and a guy put his hand in my back pocket to check for a wallet. I yelled, “Watch your stuff! He’s picking pockets!” Everyone ignored me. As soon as the doors opened, the pick pocket grabbed a guy’s wallet and fled. Then people started accusing me of being an accomplice.🙄
