One of the GREAT British bands where dissonance reigns and reigns, poignant cutting clever lyrics keep you sharp and you wish they share forever. Amen.
The government wants pupils singing a tasteful little song called 'Strong Britain, Great Britain', which is basically 'Tomorrow Belongs to Me' with the production values of 'There's No-one Quite Like Grandma.' This is my counter-suggestion.
I saw this band in a Somerset pub somewhere but I can't remember where I was out of my head on Magic Mushrooms. I think it was Bishop's Lydeard near Taunton 2017. I live in Taunton so it could well have been.
I'll take your mushrooms in Somerset 2017 and raise you seeing them in Manc back in '86. I dropped a shitload of amyl nitrate and fucked my best mates girlfriend. Happy days.
Favourite HMHB song since the first time I heard John Peel play I Hate Nerys Hughes back in 1986. Seen them play Live on numerous times over the last 30 years. Massively underated.
Oh fuck, that takes me back. The music industry entered an irreparable downhill spiral on the day Peel died. Lamacq fights a brave fight and Iggy is still in our corner, but hard times are here to stay.
No... HMHB and SM are both brilliant in their own way. Both have great lyrics, humour, integrity darkness and light. I saw HMHB yesterday at Leamington and definitely see a comparison. HMHB were brilliant and so we're the fans .. as is the case with SM. There's room for both. SM's collaboration with Coldwar Steve too...a visual artist with a similar aesthetic ( at risk of sounding like an art wanker). And I don't think SM take themselves any more seriously either. Not on them if other people do.
I am listening to this again on Saturday May 6th 2023, the day of King Charles III's coronation. I propose that we declare this National Shite Day. I'll be back next year.
I know im not too pissed if i can say 'theres a man with a mullet going mad with a mallet in millets. Seen em in fibbers, york, cant wait until next time !
I was in the pub with Jeff from Probe just before lockdown started, so was not able to go on to exploit that opportunity for, say, a free t-shirt, nor, now I come to think of it can I gain any leverage or reflected glory from saying this anonymously on here.
@@andyforsythe2565 Then what's the use of having two bands, eh? LOL!! Love 'em both. The Fall has a broad sonic range that intersects with other artists but these two are absolutely distinct artists in the most significant ways. Hello to another fan. Peace.
Great song from a band with a bizarre, witty take on the world. I propose that the UK and the rest of the Anglosphere adopt an official *National Shite Day*, to be held on the first Friday the 13th of every calendar year.
And technically they do call it the 'bus replacement service'. The ex wife used to get it many times from Preston to Halifax, so I am somewhat of an authority on this matter.
There's a man with a mullet going mad with a mallet in millets.thats got to be one of the best lines in a song ever
I disagree, it IS the best line in a song ever.
Overhead a rainbow appears,………. in Black and White.
french national, me thinking best line ever, deserves a translation though , God bless the Scouses
,
Innit
@@athalismagickinstitute4383 Il y a un homme avec un mulet qui devient fou avec un maillet en millets
"overheard a rainbow appears...in black and white"
The absolute frustration and quiet despair in this lyric hits hard.
Some of these chords do not exist!! Love them! I am 65. Seen them 4 times, got all the albums, but this song has to be one of their best!
I know , i,ve tried for ages
Not if if u play by ear...
One of the GREAT British bands where dissonance reigns and reigns, poignant cutting clever lyrics keep you sharp and you wish they share forever. Amen.
but I find it hard to share with non-British friends, because it's so culture referent.
Very few hmhb references work beyond Dover.
Or should I say Broadstairs
"Pulling the ice axe from my leg, I staggered on, spindrift stinging my remaining eye". Genius.
Uplifting. Poets for all the generations.
Has kept me going during lockdown.
🤣😊
I was listening them on the train down to Devon to join the Royal Marines and during basic training 35 years ago!!
Please tell me you were listening to Time Flies, lol. Thank you for your service BTW.
obviously NOT THE soldier required.....
Every day is National Shite Day at the moment

Good point. Why isn't it called a train replacement service?
I saw this band in a Somerset pub somewhere but I can't remember where I was out of my head on Magic Mushrooms. I think it was Bishop's Lydeard near Taunton 2017. I live in Taunton so it could well have been.
Do you remener it pmsl

It doesn't take more than a handfull of listens to gently realise that this is the greatest songs of any musical genre EVER written.
A masterpiece.
Favourite HMHB song since the first time I heard John Peel play I Hate Nerys Hughes back in 1986. Seen them play Live on numerous times over the last 30 years. Massively underated.

Seriously one of my favourite bands of all time...this is brilliant
It's like rap but the stories are much more interesting.
And it's more gangster
This is the kind of music I could imagine the Sleaford Mods making if realised what fannies they are and stopped taking themselves seriously.
cream required... BURNS!!!
been thinking for a while that they need to drop the beep beep machines and go full band. the mods are getting stale.

This is too true. I had a drink with them at Glasto one year and they’re daft bastards
Sleaford Mods I mean. It goes without saying that Nigel Blackwell is as daft as a brush
Bloody love half man half biscuit so many brilliant songs
Every time i want to take myself too seriously I listen to HMHB
Then i tell myself "That's not the point you silly sausage"
And the arguement goes on
The way he delivered the “Fat Kids with sausage rolls” always got me 😂
Brilliant band. Saw these a few years back when I was like 15. Hilarious lyrics
"May the Lord have mercy on Stringy Bob"
Embrace the margin...
Songs with storytelling are awesome!
I wish he'd told us 'the rest ' after stringy Bob answered the advert in the music press. Haha!
You mean you can't guess?
He ended up in the farm
if 2020 were a song...
Awesome remark.
Send this kind of sense in an e mail to Nigel Blackwell.... Ha ha(die hard biscuit fan.. Forever!) XX🙏🙏😂😂🤣💋💋💋💋💋💋
Pretty obvious
Excellent still - never ceases to amaze!
Theres a man with a mullet going mad with a mallet in Milletts
Loved the band ever since I saw them at Shelley's in Stoke just after Back in the Dhss came out.
I was there too great night loved it a bit psychedelic. Up the Stokies
I will play this on coronation day
Great idea, I shall join you in that...!!
Lmao
Did you play it? I did. Bastards.
You may well be playing it again very soon then.
I am listening to this again on Saturday May 6th 2023, the day of King Charles III's coronation. I propose that we declare this National Shite Day. I'll be back next year.
“Is this your Sanderling”?
"Is this your sanderling?"
Heartbreaking.
Thank you boys from Birkenhead or thereabouts, best comments ever also.

I wasn't. I'm barred from that pub for talking to a prostitute anyway.

Terrific. Could be as well a song by the Fall
marhaba400 not really, float on ..
Sounds like a Fall song to me too.
@@andyforsythe2565 Then what's the use of having two bands, eh? LOL!! Love 'em both. The Fall has a broad sonic range that intersects with other artists but these two are absolutely distinct artists in the most significant ways. Hello to another fan. Peace.
Big fan and I agree. The voice and type of humour are different, but the aesthetic is similar. Can't believe I just said that.
Both bands are great observational story tellers. But you can tell them apart instantly. Listen to them both and enjoy.
if 2021 were a song..
Can't even go into Millets to go mad with a mallet if i wanted to.
Why aint this never been a Xmas numby one ?? ffs Nows the time to put it there.
1/2 man, macc lads, viz and Mrs Kennedy from Oz.
Proof you can simultaneously feel young and very very old. At least some loves last you to a pension.
listening again, it really is a stone cold classic - ffs!
This is my favourite HMHB song
An ode to Grange Road precinct, Birkenhead.

Not really. They wouldn't want it.
Oh contrare. I beg to differ@@philipcurnow7990
Think Millets is no more , try and get a rhyme out of Mountain Warehouse...... great riff
There’s one been closing down in Huddersfield for years.
I've celebrated plenty of them.

The whole song is a great poem in very English.

IS stringy Bob related to Skinny Bob? I want to know.
Good remedy for all those national shite days 😁😁😁❤
Love hearing a genteel phrase like "...without due care or attention" on top of such aggressive music. lol

They lack the requisite due care or attention. Seen countless examples.

Do you think - if I start some GoFundMe kind of thing - I can raise enough money to pay for them to come play in Amsterdam?
Friday 28 April they are playing in hull, UK.... Just a ferry trip away from Rotterdam.👍
Who’s Barry Perkins?

Just sensational isn't it? Its England.
Karl Pilkington brought me here.
He's got currents for eyes!
After Scotland leave we new national anthem, HMHB have to write it... Nobody else quite captures the beautiful shitness of England.
Very Pixies-esque guitar on this one!
The vocals on Indy City are also somewhat similar.
