    Short and to the point, no convos needed and that's how I like your vids man. Your technicalities are what give me the motivation to learn more cause something as simple as a step or pivot make all the difference. • @kenwoodmn3921
      @kenwoodmn3921 5 лет назад

      @OSCAR and EMMY Not arguing, moving straight back is a good way to get caught. I took it as this being just one step, or one option, that he's throwing in. If you step back and circle or step back at an angle you obviously reduce your risk. Mixing in different defenses is as useful as mixing up your offense.

    Nice! So as a karate guy, I use a lot more footwork then head movement. I also do some boxing but my base is karate so that’s my fundamentals. We use an inside palm block just like this parry. We use it lunging back and also sing back with the front leg. I find that if you throw the right as a part of the movement immediately after the block it’s helpful in the event your attacker rushing in with a small combo as well.
    Thanks for sharing, nice info here!

      Another karate guy here. There is ALOT OF CROSSOVER between karate and boxing. Most karate is fought at the wrong range (kicking). Karate should be fought in close and tight like boxing. Anyway, the brother has a good page, doesn't he.

    • @walkbreal
      @walkbreal 5 лет назад +5

      The hook that tripple G uses is also a defensive hook, his elbows are turned in a position that defends him from counters, where as the so call traditional hook is supposed to be more powerful.

      Oh and the whole "turn ur punches over" thing is mainly jus ur arm being parallel. U dont have to throw like GGG. Canelos arms are at the same angle yet he lands with his fist vertical. Its a matter of preference. But u should always turn ur shots over, bring ut forearm parallel to the ground and use ur shoulder to protect ur chin.

    I liked the video and it's a great tip for not being tricked into blocking or parrying the jab when your opponent comes around with the hook. In the demonstration, however, at the 1:12 mark Eddie brings his back hand to block the jab in front of his lead hand. Fundamentally, you should never have the back hand going so much forward to block the jab that it actually goes in front of your lead hand. You should extend your back hand forward maybe 4 inches or so if your opponent decides to throw a hook, it's much easier for you to then react to the hook.

    I think it really depends on who you are fighting and what other movements you have in your arsenal. This works well against big and aggressive rhythmic jabbers. When you get guys that are quicker than you in ranging in and out, it may be better to do something else. This is a very effective, espe silly if you are good at loading your back leg for springing back for a counter. However, I would say that against elite guys, they wont let you off so easily.

I teach my boxers to catch closer to their face so that they still have time to keep their defense up, but you are right...it is still a small vulnerability. What would you say to the amateurs where the pace doesn't allow you to feel them out?

E.g., no one, and I mean not one guy today uses the beautiful switch-&-pivot style with the bob-&-weave that Tyson displayed so brilliantly in his heyday. Obvsly, no one is going to Tyson like Tyson, but just the theme, or one of those elements the way he did it cld be a theme or a staple of some of today’s pros/best. Tks Coach...

    A new subscriber to your channel, hope to get some knowledge from u and learn new things. but i have one question. what if your opponent is a little quicker, with quicker hand speed what do u do to slow him down besides going to the body?

    What's up Coach Anthony. 1 quick question, maybe you could answer it in another video. Orthodox fighter verses a southpaw. Does the same principal apply when fighting a southpaw, defending against the jab? Defend the jab, step back. I know you're not trying to give away too many secrets! LoL

      Not a trainer at all but based on my experience I'd say it does apply in an orthodox vs southpaw situation because you block the jab with your lead hand in that situation and so, if you reach too much, you're even more exposed to a fake and left hook or fake and overhand.
