Dumbledore abusing his powers. Sounds like the Catholic church when they still controlled the state in all of the Western world. Except not as serious or real.
Seriously though. Slytherin never wins in the movies. It's weird. Also, pride can be good, but it has to be controlled not it controlling you. Which is hard. The virtues can't be seen as possibly positive by Rowling.
couldn't agree more. it's unfortunate she doesn't understand the intricacies and appeal of something she, herself, created. oh well. we snakes have to stick together. if you want more pro-slytherin content, check out some more of my videos and hit that subscribe button!
Same it makes me so sad. I’m a Slytherin and I feel so upset about the bias against us. I love being Slytherin and all that, but it SUCKS so bad to see her treat us like shit, and so many people who aren’t Slytherin too
The points part wasn't just unfair for Slytherin it was unfair for all the houses since griffindor was in last place then in first place it changed the points position for every house.
It's kind of dumb for anyone to make the headmaster of the school an alumni from any house. The last one was a Slytherin who favored Riddle and their might have been biase there too. There is alot in the world of Rowling that seems lacking.
Why do some people forget about the Troll incident. “Prefects will take their house to the dormitories, teachers will follow me to the dungeons.” Dude! The Slytherin dorms are IN the dungeons! You’re endangering students
oooo trust me when I say I certainly haven't forgotten about the troll incident. it's one of MANY reasons Dumbledore, in my eyes, is secretly the villain of the story (other than JK herself obviously)
Exactly AND when she fucking made the Slytherins go down to the dungeons and LOCK THEM UP?! In the last movie (heard that some got out and helped the school in the books but not in the movies, which I’ve seen only) only like 4-6 students who wanted to give up Harry. It’s so stupid and always makes me so pissed
@@yaboy5692 So true! And honesty if the "good guys" would have locked me up in the dungeons, I would definitely not help them defeating Voldemort! I'd be way too proud to do that cause why should I help someone who treats me like crap?!
The most sad thing is that Slytherin is a house that also appeals to children who have suffered from abuse: the Slytherin qualities such as resourcefulness, fraternity, cunning, self-preservation and determination are very strong in children who come from abusive homes (Regulus, Severus, Tom Riddle(though he was a psychopath, it doesn't change the fact that he WAS abused), and even Harry himself. They'll do anything to survive and rise above their circumstances. So JK Rowling claiming that CHILDREN are evil just for being in that house is plain cruel: because she invalidates their struggles and traumas and labels them as not only inherently bad, but also as underserving of consideration and basic kindness and validation. PS: "Traditionalism" is also a way to implicitly say that some of these children also follow the "family tradition": it is stated mutliple times in the books that some families have more of an affinity with a certain house and therefore it is expected of them to be sorted there (Ron himself said it was a tradition for the Weasleys to be in Gryffindor, same with Slytherin for the Blacks and the Malfoys. Traditions are important in the wizarding world, regardless of your ideological inclination. But since Slytherins tend to be labelled as "dark", they stay among themselves to protect themselves. And it's probably this "segregation" that nurtured the divide between their house and the others. Also, should I remind you of how quick everyone turned on Sirius, regardless of the fact that his friendhsip with James was so legendary it was still talked about to this day? With no trial, and probably because he has the last name Black, he was thrown in prison. Why? Because Blacks are "traditionnally" Slytherins. For Slytherins, Tradition is the same as Self-Preservation, and it's probably what pushed some of them into the Dark Lord's camp: they felt that their way of life, their livelihood, was threatened)
- Yes, I won't deny that Harry, Ron and Hermione deserved that points for protecting the Stone, but the way Dumbledore did it was humiliating to the Slytherin kids. Waiting them to think they won, letting them celebrate, and then basically saying "but FUCK YOU, Ron Weasley playied chess!" And, of course, there's that point of view of these three breaking the rules all the time and being rewarded for it. Hor frustrating it must be for the fols of other houses. - The division between the traits sound too much as the traditional "fair, brave, golden knight who fights for justice" x against "the cunning, sneaking villain who try to reach his goals by means that are not honorable according to these arbitrary honor rules". - Draco Malfoy is not a perfect character. Not even a good person. But he's interesting, complex and has the potential to be redeemed. Young people generally are not very good in distinguish why they like a character. Is it because we identify with them? Because we admire them? Because they are well-written and interesting? We understanding and feel compassion for them? We have a crush on them? We feel poweful by imagining ourselves as them? Now, being a 20 years old, I can answer this, but I coudn't when I was 11, 12. Plus, girls are strongly exposed to romantic heteronormative ideas, so is very easy to translate wrong these feeling when the character is a young pretty male. I used to say, when I was a preteen, I had a crush on Gaara from Naruto and Lelouch from Code Geass. I never did. I liked them as interesting characters. I felt empaty for them. But I liked them, and I didn't know how the explain why I liked them, so I just kinda transated this way. What I mean for all of this is that Draco's fans probably did the same thing. Not all, but a good plenty of them.
I was literally saying the same thing about how Ron literally play chess And how Hermione was just being smart the only person who deserves house points was harry and also not all Slytherin’s are bad there was only two Slytherin’s that were actually bad Voldemort and Slytherin himself
@@CarlieAndTheBanshees You and Allana both make excellent points. Harry was the one who saved everyone's sorry asses, so I will concede that he deserved points (that or whatever that award that they gave Tom was called) for that. Ron and Hermione, while they both contributed in their own ways, should not have gotten _nearly_ as many points. On top of that, Dumbledore, for the sake of professionalism, should have just quietly awarded Gryffindor the points while Harry was recovering. The scene during the end-of-year feast honestly just felt like a massive "fuck you" to everyone that wasn't in Gryffindor.
Harry Ron and Hermione didn’t deserve any points because they broke DOZENS of school rules to go confront Quirrell, and what they did had nothing to do with school and extracurriculars like Quidditch which is what the point system is based around. Harry shouldn’t have been rewarded for breaking the rules. Think about when McGonagall gave Draco detention for breaking the rules to spy on Harry and Ron,..
Dumbledor: Harry, Hermione, and Ron, You get 1,000 points each for breaking the rules, almost killing people, and breathing. Slytherin: Dumbledor! Dumbledor! I KILLED VOLDEMORT!!!! Dumbledor: cool. 5 points to Slytherin. Good for you. All Slytherins: 😢 *Hello darkness my old friend*
"Slytherins are evil" "All Slytherins care about is money and success" "Slytherins just want be the best. They don't care about anything else" I'm so damn SICK of hearing all these things! Slytherins are passionate. Yes we want to be the best at what we love. And that's not a bad thing. Yes, we have A LOT of pride, which is not a bad thing either. It is what makes us do what others said we couldn't. We are cunning, but we can also use it for good reasons. And as far as I know being intelligent isn't a bad thing either. We are the biggest judge of ourselves and when we say that we are good at something, it's not arrogance, it's just the truth and it took us a long time to ensure that. Slytherins are dreamers. We make plans about our future and life and will do anything to make them come true. And that's not necessarily a bad thing. Slytherins believe that family are not only the people who are connected by blood with them , family are some people we chose. And willing to stand by them is one of the most precious friendship traits. You can find both good and bad people in every house.
Yeah, you can find good and bad everywhere, but Slytherin is simply meant to represent a faction as Harry is the main character, so it naturally makes his foes look worse.
The worst part is that every other house celebrated that Slytherin didn't win. I started reading this saga with 14 (I kinda regret that I started so late)so I was kinda "mature" but imagine a little kid with 11. Man I would literally cry
If I was in Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw I would be at least highly confused what the hell is going on or I would even join Slytherin booing at the Gryffindors or Dumbledore!
Honestly, Slytherin has one trait from every single house. We are loyal to our few friends. We are intelligent, (most of us). We are brave, we just look before jumping. Being ambitious is a trait that makes us achieve our goals and dreams.
hufflepuff are hard-working(combination of ravenclaw seek to improve and studiousness, and slytherin ambition) and of course hero material like gryffindor youre not the only best house
It's not correct,if we looked up the traits.Slytherin more like ambitious cunning guy who can use their Resourcefulness and cunningness in pure deff it's not mean they brave,All human has the quality of each house but just prefer or has this quality dominant in theirself Being ambitious doesn't mean you brave, there's someone who have high ambition but lack of bravery to step up so Slytherin has quality of all house? False it's the individual who decided if they want to be brave, loyal, and Smart I can also said other house like Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, and Ravenclaw has all traits Start with Ravenclaw Intelligence:ofc it's the main traits of Ravenclaw Learning:They can be hard working to learn everything Wisdom:with wisdom they know where to be brave and where to be ambitious And so the list go on
Yeah , This not only unfair for all Slytherins who worked their asses of to gain all those point to earn their number one spot , but can we also talk about the Ravenclaws and the Hufflepuffs who also worked their asses of not to be last !? I am a Slytherin by the way and as much as I hate being robbed of our well deserved first place I am even more saddened by Hufflepuffs situation, they regressed to last place tho that is not their earned place , and even tho I know puffies don’t actually give a shit about those house points , it is still one of the most unfair shit I ever witnessed in a fictional story ever !
Yeah, I agree on you there! And as one of those puffies. Sure, we don't actually care much abouth the actual points or competition... BUT we do care about: Loyalty, Fairness and hard work! So being put in last place for unfair reasons and the hard work of many children (of all houses) to be unacknowledged like that.. It breaks my little huffin' puffin' heart :'( Even for the other griffindors it must be akward. Imagine getting last place as a group and then getting first because of those 3 kids. It's like saying without them you wouldn't be good enough..
How much do you want to bet rules started being broken left and right? After all, it wouldn't matter since Gryffindor was pretty much GUARENTEED to win! Why follow the rules if no one is going to care (at least from a child's perspective)!!
"Puffies", aaawww!🥰 I LOVE this nickname so much! As a person who loves Hufflepuff and is a very possible Hufflepuff themselves (i feel like Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw equally and thus can't decide which house is actually mine), yes, Puffies deserves all the good words and adoration! They're cute, kind, sweet and extremely huggable, and even the house name is all plush and soft! Puffies pride!💛🖤💛🖤
I think Dumbledore was just trying to correct all the unfair points taken away by Snape because of his unfair bias against Harry and Gryffindor Other professors are quite fair in awarding points and taking away points from everyone
Fraternity and traditionalism really do depend on context. Pride and ambition all can be positive when controlled. I agree with you that Rowling doesn't understand the positives that can be found in those virtues. However, cunning usually means deceiving and evading. But cunning can also be a virtue in a world where you must conceal truth.
Cunning is also being very smart. You need it to become successful in life. You know how to evade certain situations and also how to grab the best opportunities for yourself
The fraternity trait seems to also be why they are the main house of death eaters, stronger bonds to a smaller group lines up nicely with racism towards muggles
@@Phoenix-pm2qr the general villainization seemed to be a bias of the writer having decided they were the evil house but doesnt really make sense as a component in a school and probably wouldnt happen at least not to the that extent. Im pretty sure they were indicated to frequently win the house points contest before harry joined hogwarts which means they have to be at least acceptable in behaviour most of the time
@@Phoenix-pm2qr it also means that most of the teachers werent against them unless the few slytherin teachers were getting away with handing out ludicrous amounts of unearned score to their students
one thing i don't think you noted on this or part two but i think is shed light on by her most recent twitter activity is that she's absolutely writing from the point of view of someone who hasn't been shunned ever. like, she literally made a house for the ones who don't fit in, the ones who are in some way not the norm, then painted them as the evil house for not wanting to get murdered, for having ideas and ambitions, for figuring out the ways to do what's needed to do and doing it no matter what, for being brave but in a way that doesn't involve yeeting yourself into the middle of a bad situation. both her being, y'know, a bit shit** and her attitude towards Slytherin reveals a lot more than i think she ever intended... which is both a blessing and a curse. * at the time of hogwarts being founded, witches were being hunted by muggles so the ideaology behind Slytherin house of 'fuck muggles' makes 100% sense. people have discussed this before. ** aka her being a transmisogynist, probably an lgbtq-phobe in general, an antisemite (people have discussed this, too), i think racist? i don't remember all of the terrible things she's said and done but there's a lot so i'm calling her 'a bit shit' which is honestly an understatement.
RandomRabbit2OO7 I absolutely love your comment. Yes, I agree, she doesn’t seem to understand the bright side of the qualities she’s attributes to slytherins. Furthermore, calling her a bit shit is putting it very lightly lol. She is the epitome of a virtue signaling hypocrite. I appreciate you taking the time to comment! I love hearing people’s thoughts on the matter s of the wizarding world and Rowling herself. Thank you for taking the time to watch my videos and comment. If you’re interested in more content like this, think about hitting that subscribe button! I’ve got some more Slytherin content waiting in the wings.
She also thinks being a Nazi is sexy that is her fetish. I am not joking about this. Look it up. It's disgusting because they murdered millions of people
In one of the books, it's clearly stated that witch-burning never actually hurt any real witches or wizards, and that the fire actually gave them a pleasant, tickly sensation. Hence, the students were asked to write an essay for the following prompt: "Why Witch Burning Was Pointless" (I paraphrased this). So, the "witch-burning" excuse for Salazar Slytherin's pureblood requirement doesn't hold. 😌 I agree with you on everything else, though.
Except there are other ways of killing mages than witch burnings though and the immunity to the flame wasn't even a thing in the medieval century, I think, I am not entirely sure, anyway there is the usual decapitation, imprisonment, being trapped where you can't use either of your hands and your head is used as something to be thrown at with objects, eggs, tomato, etc-etc. Not to mention there are weapons that can be used to hurt witches & wizards, swords, maces, longbow & arrows, magical children can't exactly defend themselves so they're pretty much screwed. Overall Slytherin's wariness towards muggles is justified since they literally are hellbent on killing people like him, those who can do magic.
I'm a Slytherin. I was in a Potterhead club chat and i am polite. They all start to said : "You are too good to be a slytherin" "You are to cute to be a Slytherin" " You are to sweet to be one..." "You must be a Hufflepuf..." PEOPLE OUT THERE. WE ARENT YOUR SIMPLE CUP OF TEA.... WE ARE NOT EVIL... UNLESS YOU STEAL ME OR BREAK MY TRUST IN YOU... THEN YOU ARE IN TROUBLE...( hehehe kidding!!) You are too quick to judge and lack of empathy if you only see us as villians... They label us like it is nothing. And we are the bad ones... Yeah... *roll eyes *
Yeah...the sad part about that is that Harry didn't _have to_ end up just as bad as the rest of the Trio, but he got dragged down with them because of one interaction early on.
literally slytherin is ambitious and least likely to get caught breaking the rules and VERY competitive and born winners. yet somehow they didn’t win the house cup once
I was going to say it was a Gryffindor who thinks they won the house cup fair and square (Also I’m a Slytherin and my best friend is a Hufflepuff and we both hate Gryffindor because they think there better but it’s hard because one of my friends is a Gryffindor WELP)
It's been over 20 years and J.K. Rowling STILL can't decide whether Draco's purely evil at heart or is acting on learned behavior from an extremely toxic and borderline abusive home and family life with hateful rhetoric being shoved down his throat, so it's safe to say we can't really trust her perspective on Slytherin(a house SHE CREATED, mind you). Like you can't have both, Joanne.
LETS DEMOTE THE HARD WORK OF ALL 3 OTHER HOUSES, BECAUSE HARRY BROKE THE RULES!!! **Me and my fellow Badgers providing comfort food for everyone near the kitchens**
Freezing cold in the damn dungeons Like we don't even get Scarves And sweaters unless hufflepuff brings them down Thank you hufflepuff We don't wanna be in the dungeons
Harry kill the teacher 100 points Ron Play the game of chest 100 point Has nice pajamas 100Points Slitherings have to actually work for the dang points Stupid JK rowling let's kick her out of fandom
7:18 One thing I always found interesting was how Crabbe turned out. He was always shown to be stupid and a follower of Draco in books 1-6. While Draco turned out not to be as evil as he seemed, Crabbe actually turned into a really powerful wizard when embracing dark arts and his inner darkness. He had a "evil glow up in book 7". Kinda like how Neville was the bumbling, dumb Gryffindor (but had a hero glow up in book 7).
It's always sort of pissed me off what JK rowling did with the Slytherins because like none of the house traits are evil, they're actually really important life skills, like if you want a great life you join Slytherin and you want Slytherins in your world. I don't Like the Deatheaters personally but I do understand how important ambition is, even if mine is somewhat unconventional.
Jk definitely doesn’t understand we slytherins and it makes me really sad actually. Plus the main reason why I prefer Draco’s character than Harry’s is because he has flaws and that seems more realist, Harry is like an unreachable standard
Non HP fans might look at us and wonder why the hell we're so pressed over a made up world but it's real world principles applied to a fantasy novel. It still reflects what J.K. Rowling thinks of people that fit Slytherin's description.
Okay Dumbledor could have just gave them a special mention and thanked them/congratulated Ron, hermione, and Harry. The whole griffindor house didn’t do anything it was just 3 people who happened to be in that house! There was no reason what so ever to change the entire line up.
What I really hated was when (in the first book) after Harry asked Hagrid about the houses, Hagrid says "There wasn't one wizard who went bad who wasn't in Slytherin." Like, come on! There weren't any other houses involved?! Just Slytherin?!
I mean we straight up know about Quirell (ravenclaw) and Peter Petigrew (Gryffindor) as you read through the series so we know that isn’t true! And hey what about Grindlewald who didn’t even go to hogwarts!? I mean really cmon they only come from slytherin? A little harsh there Hagrid
In Hagrid's defense, he was portrayed as being incredibly ignorant and biased, even by Gryff standards. He also listened waaay too much to Dumbledore, stemming from that fact that Dumbledore was the one to give him a second chance. After he catches wind of the Sirius Black/Peter Pettigrew conflict, he acts a lot more reasonable. It's even shown in the Care of Magical Creatures scenes that he treats the Slytherins just the same as the Gryffindors.
I'm a Ravenclaw 💙🦅 . One thing that I don't understand is that I'm a boy . But most of the Ravenclaws displayed in the movie are girls . Honestly it's hard to find at least one Ravenclaw boy who played student in the movies .
I think it's very strange that Jk Rowling, who is the author, and therefore should understand the characters and houses that she created treats slytherin like this. It's been established multiple times that slytherins are cunning, ambitious, confident, natural leaders and many other positive qualities
its not just the house itself, its the connotations attached to the house. Rowling by default attaches Slytherin with the connotation of not just purebloods , but also with traditional wizard culture and wealth. By default, she implies that tradition and appreciating and liking your own culture and wanting its survival is wrong. Not only is this quite a horrible message to send in general (implying that liking ones own traditions and culture is somehow evil and wrong) but its also unrealistic , are we supposed to believe that absolutely no other purebloods anywhere , except for the rich and powerful , felt that their traditions and way of life were being threatened by the encroachment of muggle society (which remember , literally mass murdered wizards throughout history) onto their community via the increasing presence of muggleborns and half bloods? outside of the racial supremacist ambitions of voldemort , muggles literally ARE a threat to wizardkind . and every single muggleborn or half blood is by default yet another possible leak point that could lead to another wizard-muggle war. because these are childrens books, JK rowling went with a black and white morality that is a crying shame. If she were writing a realistic society , death eaters would have come from every house and facet of society , from the rich and poor , and some would have wanted to rule over muggles whilst others would have been afraid of what the muggles could do. she set up a more realistic premise with grindelwald showing wizards the destructive power of muggles during ww2 and arguing that they were in danger. Its just a shame she didnt flesh this out by writing about grindelwalds rise to power in more depth.
Every time I read the books or watch the movies, another little part of me dies inside seeing how Rowling worships Gryffindor, only uses Ravenclaw as a plot device, ignores Hufflepuff, and acts like Slytherins are scum
I was livid the whole time while watching this video. You made amazing points and I think that Slytherins need to be seen as children just like they are.
I can feel the disappointment from my fellow Slytherins in that scene, it's my 4½ years in privet school all in one scene, the absolutely heart wrenching, gut twisting feeling you get when all you and your house's hard work and effort is immediately cast aside as soon as you get your hopes up at the thought of winning. Don't let the "at least you tried" fool you, it's 10× worse then when you don't.
I always felt so gravitated towards Draco because I felt his character and I share very similar issues and I don’t get my JK Rowling just can’t realize some people didn’t grow up happy
I'm a fellow Slytherin. Despite the fact that I know I fit in with hufflepuff and everyone saying I should be a hufflepuff, my original result on the full sorting hat quiz was Slytherin, and I feel like the house suits me well.
I also find it a bit sad that griffindors get hate from other potterheads because of this favorism from Rowling. Every house has it strengths and flaws!
I am a Slytherin and I can't belive what type of mom we have. She hates Slytherin and I don't know why. Yeah, i know. Some evil people were from Slytherin but that does not mean we are evil! I mean, look at Wormtail (Peter). He was bad but he was from Gryffindor. I just don't know why J.K Rowling would make a house even though she will hate it eventually. But we are standing tall and continue to be very proud Slytherins. #SLYTHERINPRIDE
Several months ago the series were re distributed in my country's (Thailand) main cinemas and as a good proud Slytherin I unapologetically took this sacred chance to stand up and thumbing down both hands just when our regal tapestry of success being replaced.
Guys guys this woman brutally dehumanized a child for ten years but said it's not abuse..... Are we really surprised she made an entire house "evil" when it's kids 11 to 17 yrs old? Plus their head of house had to give them most of their points because the system is inherently broken
I just feel like we took the Concept of Harry Potter from J.K. Rowling and showed her how it really was like noooo she can says whatever she wants we know the truth we love our house even if she didn’t planed I’m sorry, but actually not, we’re proud.
I know I am so late and this video was published over a year ago, but remember that scene when Professor McGonagall literally tells Filch to lock ALL OF SLYTHERIN HOUSE up during the Battle of Hogwarts. They cant ALL support Voldemort. (Thank you so much for this video, it was nice to hear someone say it out loud.)
I'm a proud Slytherin and I'd rather surround myself with people who I know would someday may or may not betray and would may or may not do underhanded things to me than mingle with 'brave' lions who would hate you and accuse you when you were suddenly and unknowingly put in a competition that is highly infamous for killing off their players *cough* Ron Weasley *cough*
I mean honestly I’d rather have ambitious and resourceful friends than dumbasses who rush into danger, good finders, or scholarly folks. Like cmon no contest slytherfriends all the way
I personally don't understand why people don't understand the fact that I love draco for a reason....i was bullied in school at home and a lot of places but in some way...draco helped me....i was just very hurt still am but come on he literally helped me a lot also I'm a proud slytherin and I personally was broken when slytherin didn't win the house cup because the golden trio broke rules....like....why...why???❤️💚🐍
Another moment is when Quirrel yelled "TROLL IN THE DUNGEON thought you'd ou't to know" then Dumberdore sent everyone to their dorms- slytherins and hufflepuff dorms are in the dungeon ummmm-
it kinda makes sense why so many slytherins end up as death eaters when you consider how they are all treated as outsiders their whole life by everyone else, wish JK touched on this.
I remember watching that scene and thinking it was kinda sad for slytherin that they lost THAT WAY then i really lookked at draco's face. Dude was an arse but it looked like he tried so hard to.get house points then just to lose them like that
Nah, it's not just the Slytherins who care about this, because IRL, people of every stripe care about fair stories, and for HP fans, a factor of that is that we see how biased the books are, and fanfic writers can be fairer on Slytherin and see it can be multidimensional. I feel like some of JKR's establishing concepts failed to grow up when the tone of the books grew up - like the first book had some very Roald Daahl aspects to it (like the way the Dursleys are portrayed) - but the way Slytherin is treated by her did not grow up as the books grew more serious. Given that she still expresses that anti-Slytherin attitude even now? Yeah, this is a problem in her view of such personality attributes as ambition and cunning, which I, as a very un-ambitious person (yeah, I'm a Ravenclaw-Griffindor mix) still can see can have good results.
In the book JK Rowling treated him horribly she wrote him like a person who just bullies people and she NEVER understood him even though she created him…
I'm a Ravenclaw and think that Hufflepuff is the best house. But I love Slytherin. SO I WILL PROTECT MY SLYTHERIN CHILDREN AT ALL COSTS! (You too Gryffindor's. I'm sorry you got stereotyped as the favorites because of J.K. Rowling!)
I am personally not a slytherin, but it has always been my favorite house. In the first book I couldn't help but get upset at the outcome. I absolutely adore the Harry Potter franchise, but I can't help my strong dislike twords J.K Rowling. Not JUST because of her unfair dislike to Slytherin house, but for other reasons as well.
She’s shit lol but I love the books and films. I personally believe in separating artists from their art. Though calling Rowling an artist may be a bit too generous
I understand why she made Gryffindor wins in the 1st book. She should've let Slytherin win in the 2nd book tho since the themes were around the mystery of that house. She could've had Slytherin coming out on top in a number of things throughout the year but with Harry and the gang still saving the day at the end to create that little bittersweet ending - where the good guys get to appreciate the more important victory and thereby giving important growth to our protagonists for the future. Also, this would make Malfoy a more interesting and formidable opponent.
Great points. And I'm sorted in Ravenclaw, so it isn't only Slytherins that care about this. When I first read the first Harry Potter books, I just accepted the points as being okay. I guess is because I was an older reader and saw it as a children's book and it was okay if things were over the top. I also saw many of the characters were more like caricatures. IMO I just don't see the books getting darker but also...from a children's books to YA? I can't find the word now.
@@thebrooklynquintana Indeed and there are pages upon pages of Draco trying his best to make dad proud but literally virtually everything he ever does "bad" does not even come close to what fred and george does on the regular. worst he ever does is mean words and silly pranks. and half assed attempts on dumbledoore only because the only person who loves him is held hostage by voldemort(his mom). he even does lies and pretend he cant recognize harry(his "nemesis") even at the risk of torture/death if caught lying. the truth is Draco is braver than 99% would have been in that situation.

it's so unfair that gryffindor won the house cup. Not only for me and my slytherin-buddies but also for Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw. Slytherin Traits: Ambition Resourcefulness Cunning Shrewdness Team Work Pride I identify with all except pride because I not only struggle with self confidence but, as a Christian, I know pride is a sin (that's pride as in boasting and pride in self. You can be proud of things you have done or that others have done, but also know it wouldn't have been possible without God)

The most messed up part about the house cup in the first story is that Neville is the one who was used as a tie breaker, and you KNOW he got crap for that from Snape and the Slytherns ((I'm a Hufflepuff, but, yeah, that was just messed up on all levels))
As a slytherin it makes me upset that they don't see what good we have and what good things we have to give like we can be replased at any time and we and are cualities are not important. We are liders who want to use our ámbitos, cunnig and other things to give a vision to the ones that go and truste in use and we want to guide them. Besides it is heartbreaking for me their faces and reactions when they lost the cup because I know that feeling when you work hard and lose because someone was better than you or the teachers love them and you only can confform with working harder to win the next time
It’s always the GRYFFINDORS that get House cup. Ugh. Not all Slytherin are evil and those that have a bias against us make me sick. And...Is that a gold Loki pop on your bookshelf?! I have one too!! And btw SLYTHERIN RULES GRYFINDOR DROOLS
Like wth they got points for breaking rules and playing chess and killing a teacher like how would all the kids that worked hard to win the house cup feel like Dumbledore just said you win but not really gryffindor wins for breaking school rules like tbh it breaks people hearts just imagine working hard to get all full Mark in all your tests and a kid that is the teacher favourite is the one that always gets cheered by the teacher and the teacher act like your not here and doesn't even say good job or you did great just gives you your paper and tells you to go back to your chair
Dumbledore never shows any regard for Slytherin house and their feelings. He treats them as if its inevitable that they'll join Voldemort and so he doesn't even bother trying to reach out to them
@@thebrooklynquintana that is pretty sad not only because one of the slytherin students went mad doesnt mean they all will and jk Rowling should have shown more love to other houses while writing the books
Me: **excited for the video** Later me: **sees Dumbledore announcing the house cup** Even later me: Okay wtf is this? This just unfair fair. They got awarded for breaking rules.
1) The problem is that people who think amition is evil. Morality is determine by what those ambitions are and what you are willing to do to achieve them. 2) Slytherin didn't get the house cup on merit. Go through the book. Count all the points that Professor Snape unfairly deducted from Gryfindor and multiply it by seven. Professor Snape likely stole at least 200 points from Gryffindor.
I'm a Gryffindor (according to the various quizes I've done) but I honestly feel like I could be a combination of all four. What I've found most odd with the HP books is that Slytherin seem to be completely portrayed as the 'evil' house, which doesn't seem to make sense to me. Having cunning, ambition etc are indeed traits anyone could have for further gain but still be a noble person. I mean Percy Weasley should have been a Slytherin as he has these exact traits! I think it would have been better if Rowling had introduced a Slytherin character who eventually became close to Harry, kind of how Luna was introduced from Ravenclaw. Perhaps the Slytherin character would at first be a bit wary of Harry, due to how some of the other Slytherin's (especially Malfoy) perceive Harry, but then eventually learns that Harry can be trusted and have good intentions, and becomes closer to the trio. This would have led to a more interesting dynamic in that Harry learns that not all Slytherin's are the stereotypical portrayal as Harry views them.
"J.K Rowling Doesn't Understand Slytherin" You do understand that she wrote the books including Slytherin, don't you? Why are you saying that she didn't understand what she wrote especially since it's an incredibly massive hit? Harry had to have a rival in the books and JK Rowling chose Slytherin house to be that rival. The rival had to be at least partially evil. This helps the main character's storyline as a hero. It's just that simple.
Malfoy looks ready to cry when they announced that Gryffindor wins
I would've been ready to cry too! Total shit move, Dumbledore.

Seriously though. Slytherin never wins in the movies. It's weird. Also, pride can be good, but it has to be controlled not it controlling you. Which is hard. The virtues can't be seen as possibly positive by Rowling.

I am a Slytherin, and even I have suffered through a type of abuse.

- Yes, I won't deny that Harry, Ron and Hermione deserved that points for protecting the Stone, but the way Dumbledore did it was humiliating to the Slytherin kids. Waiting them to think they won, letting them celebrate, and then basically saying "but FUCK YOU, Ron Weasley playied chess!"
And, of course, there's that point of view of these three breaking the rules all the time and being rewarded for it.
The first point you made is exactly how I felt about this scene
Why couldn't he just give the points earlier -_- **sad hissing**

"Slytherins are evil"
"All Slytherins care about is money and success"
"Slytherins just want be the best. They don't care about anything else"
I'm so damn SICK of hearing all these things!
You can find both good and bad people in every house.
well said !
Yeah, you can find good and bad everywhere, but Slytherin is simply meant to represent a faction as Harry is the main character, so it naturally makes his foes look worse.
Slytharin doesnt exist though...
Preach!
Go outside stop LARPing
Being ambitious is a trait that makes us achieve our goals and dreams.
hufflepuff are
hard-working(combination of ravenclaw seek to improve and studiousness, and slytherin ambition)
and of course hero material like gryffindor
youre not the only best house
It's not correct,if we looked up the traits.Slytherin more like ambitious cunning guy who can use their Resourcefulness and cunningness in pure deff it's not mean they brave,All human has the quality of each house but just prefer or has this quality dominant in theirself
Being ambitious doesn't mean you brave, there's someone who have high ambition but lack of bravery to step up so Slytherin has quality of all house? False it's the individual who decided if they want to be brave, loyal, and Smart
I can also said other house like Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, and Ravenclaw has all traits
Start with Ravenclaw
Intelligence:ofc it's the main traits of Ravenclaw
Learning:They can be hard working to learn everything
Wisdom:with wisdom they know where to be brave and where to be ambitious
And so the list go on
Other houses are less likely to become judges because they aren't even able to judge Slytherin's character right. 🐍 Where the gang at
Yeah , This not only unfair for all Slytherins who worked their asses of to gain all those point to earn their number one spot , but can we also talk about the Ravenclaws and the Hufflepuffs who also worked their asses of not to be last !?
Seriously Hufflepuff are so disrespected , so being fair and nice equates doormat , nice
I think Dumbledore was just trying to correct all the unfair points taken away by Snape because of his unfair bias against Harry and Gryffindor
Other professors are quite fair in awarding points and taking away points from everyone
@@jeice13 OR because every house seems to be against you, you ban together and become a very tight and close house.

one thing i don't think you noted on this or part two but i think is shed light on by her most recent twitter activity is that she's absolutely writing from the point of view of someone who hasn't been shunned ever. like, she literally made a house for the ones who don't fit in, the ones who are in some way not the norm, then painted them as the evil house for not wanting to get murdered, for having ideas and ambitions, for figuring out the ways to do what's needed to do and doing it no matter what, for being brave but in a way that doesn't involve yeeting yourself into the middle of a bad situation. both her being, y'know, a bit shit** and her attitude towards Slytherin reveals a lot more than i think she ever intended... which is both a blessing and a curse.

I agree with you on everything else, though.

Welcome !
Gosh, you are so underrated! You deserve more subs!
wow thank you so much! means a lot when people like your content :)
Fun fact that first book moment was when I learned what Dues Ex Machina as a kid.
I think Dumbledore was just trying to correct all the unfair points taken away by Snape because of his unfair bias against Harry and Gryffindor
8:48 :ccc this pains my Hufflepuff heart

Every time I read the books or watch the movies, another little part of me dies inside seeing how Rowling worships Gryffindor, only uses Ravenclaw as a plot device, ignores Hufflepuff, and acts like Slytherins are scum
I was livid the whole time while watching this video. You made amazing points and I think that Slytherins need to be seen as children just like they are.
Thank you! Glad you’re on board with the whole slytherins aren’t evil narrative !!
Gryffindor was the golden child and Slytherin was the scapegoat for JKR and it pisses me off
I always felt so gravitated towards Draco because I felt his character and I share very similar issues and I don’t get my JK Rowling just can’t realize some people didn’t grow up happy

Preach it !
Oh McG that bitch jeeez lol
She WHAT
I don't- who in their-
GODDAMMIT MINERVA I _LIKED_ YOU!
"yes yes well done Slytherin HOWEVER......9 MILLION POINTS TO GRYFFINDOR!"
she wrote the book with MANY biases in hand. this is just one of them.
Like cmon no contest slytherfriends all the way
I agree the last minute awarding of points was absolutely unfair.
Yes, yes, nice video, well done Brooklyn, well done Brooklyn, HOWEVER
ok I legit laughed at this lol
Why didn't he just add the points to Gryfindor before the original announcement?
Another moment is when Quirrel yelled "TROLL IN THE DUNGEON thought you'd ou't to know" then Dumberdore sent everyone to their dorms- slytherins and hufflepuff dorms are in the dungeon ummmm-
it kinda makes sense why so many slytherins end up as death eaters when you consider how they are all treated as outsiders their whole life by everyone else, wish JK touched on this.
Well said
I remember watching that scene and thinking it was kinda sad for slytherin that they lost THAT WAY then i really lookked at draco's face.
Though calling Rowling an artist may be a bit too generous
the fact that she has MULTIPLE SETS of the hp books
Lol I have seven sets .... they have different covers so it’s worth it!
So JK accidently gave a character arc to a character that SHE both created and hated???
So it seems
@@thebrooklynquintana Indeed and there are pages upon pages of Draco trying his best to make dad proud but literally virtually everything he ever does "bad" does not even come close to what fred and george does on the regular. worst he ever does is mean words and silly pranks. and half assed attempts on dumbledoore only because the only person who loves him is held hostage by voldemort(his mom). he even does lies and pretend he cant recognize harry(his "nemesis") even at the risk of torture/death if caught lying. the truth is Draco is braver than 99% would have been in that situation.
So glad to have stumbled into this cozy little Slytherin support corner. Much love fellow snake folks! ☺️🐍
Welcome! All slytherfriends are welcome here and of course so are your comments!! Hope you’ll stick around for more videos and consider subscribing 🐍🐍🐍
@@thebrooklynquintana That'll be a subscribe for me! 😁
it's so unfair that gryffindor won the house cup. Not only for me and my slytherin-buddies but also for Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw. Gryffindor was at the last place and then they win because they broke rules🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
nothing against you gryffindors out there but this fact just pissed me of and made me kinda dislike gryffindor because of the movies
but still loving all houses💙💚💛❤️
Preach it
Slytherin Traits:
Ambition
Resourcefulness
Cunning
Shrewdness
Team Work
Pride
I identify with all except pride because I not only struggle with self confidence but, as a Christian, I know pride is a sin (that's pride as in boasting and pride in self. You can be proud of things you have done or that others have done, but also know it wouldn't have been possible without God)
i'm a slytherpuff
Koraart 10 all houses welcome here !
As a Slytherin, the divide and prejudice against us makes me sad.
Snek here. Can we talk instead about where you got that shirt? Cuz I need one now.
BlackTungsten Hot Topic!!! Check out more of my nerd style and apparel (most of which comes from Hot Topic) by checking out some more videos and subscribing!
I LOVE THE SHIRT SHE'S WEARING
The most messed up part about the house cup in the first story is that Neville is the one who was used as a tie breaker, and you KNOW he got crap for that from Snape and the Slytherns
((I'm a Hufflepuff, but, yeah, that was just messed up on all levels))
As a slytherin it makes me upset that they don't see what good we have and what good things we have to give like we can be replased at any time and we and are cualities are not important. We are liders who want to use our ámbitos, cunnig and other things to give a vision to the ones that go and truste in use and we want to guide them. Besides it is heartbreaking for me their faces and reactions when they lost the cup because I know that feeling when you work hard and lose because someone was better than you or the teachers love them and you only can confform with working harder to win the next time
Just because Draco is an ass (I still love him though) , doesn't mean that whole slytherin is evil
It’s always the GRYFFINDORS that get House cup. Ugh. Not all Slytherin are evil and those that have a bias against us make me sick. And...Is that a gold Loki pop on your bookshelf?! I have one too!!
And btw
SLYTHERIN RULES GRYFINDOR DROOLS
I just realized that you're wearing a shirt that says "Turn to page 394" OMG LOL
and with your video YES you make lots of valid points
#ProudtobeaSlytherin
Thank you!
Tbh when I re-watched the series again and Favoritism dies I was like "and nothing of value was lost." (I am a Slytherin)
Me: **excited for the video**
Later me: **sees Dumbledore announcing the house cup**
Even later me: Okay wtf is this? This just unfair fair. They got awarded for breaking rules.
Harry potter is a power fantasy for JK . that's why the villain's are all simple they are shadows of those who she didn't like in high school
As a Slytherin, I agree completely.
I honestly felt for the entirety of slytherin house when gryffindor stole the house cup from them especially draco malfoy
Im Proud to be A slytherin and Will forever will
I'm allergic to bias Dumbledore
Me:ACHOO
I’m a Slytherin and I’m proud
: Slytheriiiiiin !
And YES, Draco IS my favourite character, mainly because I relate an awful lot to him
Draco fricken was forced to be mean!! Love your vid
