Your technique looks perfect for a lot less money and most of all the aggravation of removing parts and waiting for them to come back before you can drive the car. Great job! Thanks for posting it.
this is great solution for all us owners with sticky buttons. how has the Mr hobby held up. have you had to redo it or is this a long lasting fix, thanks so much for the video
Thanks for the feedback. It's been a year now and even with the heat/humidity of Singapore, the coating still looks and feels as it did on day 1 - very happy with the durability. The only change I've made is I replaced the black sticker on the volume knob with a proper replacement cap, which I also applied the spray to. Looks completely OEM now.
Is this Top Coat the same as matte Clear Coat paint? And doesn’t it glue the knobs to the surroundings?? I‘d never dare spraying all over it. Before I watched your video
It's definitely NOT the same as matte clear coat paint - do not use that. This particular product was originally made for model builders to specifically provide a matte finish to plastic surfaces without compromising colour or articulation, so in this application it doesn't restrict knobs or buttons. Hope that clarifies.
Great job and looks amazing! I just ordered the flat paint and going to try it out. Did you spray paint the overhead dome light unit and the HAVC temp unit without remove them? Do you think if it is safe to spray paint the entire HVAC temp unit and dome light unit? the overhead dome light has a clear plastic window.
Thank you. My overhead light panel and HVAC controls were in good shape so I didn't recondition those. I think applying the same process to the HVAC controls would be totally fine. The overhead cluster might be difficult to spray with the inverted position, so I'd recommend removing that to use the spray can in an upright or slightly downward angle to get a clean finish. Good luck!
Thank you. No, I just masked around them. Tedious, but not as risky as disassembling the steering wheel. I also did the gear selectors and trunk/fuel filler release panel. I removed both of those.

Not quite as "soft touch" as the original, but it does leave a matt touch that's much nicer than the cleaned shiny plastic.
