  • At the inner end of UNESCO World Heritage Site Nærøyfjorden, you will find Njardarheimr Viking Village. Here, viking enthusiasts have built up an authentic viking villaga which comes to life every summer and functions as a viking theme park for visitors. In this video, however, we visit in winter and are surprised by an avalanche up in the mountainside.

Beautifully captured! ❤ But I'd like to correct you a little.😉 We, the Viking Village, are open EVERY DAY in the winter from 10:30 - 14:00. (I'm guessing you were visiting in the first winter after the pandemic (2021), when we only opened for VIP bookings.)
Another fun note is that we have avalanches MUCH bigger than that one all spring when the snow melts at the top of the mountains, -and rock slides in the summer & fall with heavy rain. Some of these avalanches occur so frequently and multiple times a day that they've actually been given names. The small one that you filmed in this video can go off every hour in March/April. -But don't worry! The terrain is built up along these to guide the snow and rocks into the fjord and away from the few houses and hotels we have in Gudvangen. It would take a MASSIVE avalanche to reach the Viking village. (But, never camp or walk along the mountains where you see loose rocks and little vegetation 😛)
Let us know when you return and we'll do our best to accommodate you! 🏔⚔
