I am so old that I saw this movie when it first debuted. My parents took me and my younger brother to a drive-in movie in their 1951 Mercury coupe. Those were the days. Great movie and Walter Brennan lived on a ranch not too far from us. Good Ol' Stumpy!
This movie came out 1 year after I came to the United States from Scotland. I was 12 then. Been watching this movie ever since. My dearest Carol and I watch it every so often.

@mickaellapennucci5824 hi, I’m checking my math and since you are one of the cool type women who doesn’t mind talking about age, I was around 10 back then so you might be around 70 now?

Angie Dickinson is, as far as I know, still alive at 90 years of age. But yeah, all the male actors have long passed. Ricky Nelson was only 19 years old here but he lost his life in a plane crash in '85, otherwise he might still be around...
The Degüello was introduced to the Americas by the Spanish armies and was later adopted by the patriot armies fighting against them during the Spanish American wars of independence.
Whenever I think of this film, I think of my grandfather. This is his favorite film, and I remember watching it with him as a kid. The Magnificent Seven, Adios Sabata, and whatever Brynner is in (his favorite actor) all have a wonderful place in my heart❤
Probably the best western I have ever seen and I have seen them all. The music was exceptional and the Dequello gets me every time. I was 10 when this movie came out and did not see it till after I was married. The acting was exceptional and the story line was terrific. I give it a 10+
Not even close to best. [And, I am THE penultimate John Wayne fan.] The duke should have gotten an Oscar for "The Searchers". There are many better made Westerns than the Howard Hawks redundant remakes...
I just saw this film for the first time, and i must say, it’s probably one of the best films ever. A true hangout movie and everyone is great in the movie
@Randy White What? Rio Bravo, of course. The very movie this video is made of scenes from. The bad guy hires the saloon band to play this over and over for John Wayne and his crew. Stumpy is playing along on the harmonica, and the actual line is "Stumpy! They don't need any help with that tune!"
@@OGMaverickGaming I wish I could find that scene online somewhere. Stumpy/Walter Brennan actually did a pretty good job of following the chord progression on the harmonica.
One of the best western (cowboy) movie I've ever seen. Long back I had seen it and I remember that when the show was over people coming out crooning the tune my rifle pony and me. Now, after decades the number is still a hit.
Mon film préféré !💞 Acteurs merveilleux, scénario, musique, prises de vue et mise en scene, tout est parfait. Seule Angie Dickinson est toujours parmi nous.
Just came here after watching the movie. Awesome movie. I love the scene when Dean Martin puts his drink back in the bottle and this song playing in background. Epic
Love watching this with me dad when I was a kid. I've just watched this again on the channel 5, and as soon as this music came on I thought of my dad, every hair on my body stood up. Miss you dad love you always an forever
This music is allegedly what Sergio Leone told Ennio Morricone to use as inspiration for the score in A Fistful Of Dollars, the first true Spaghetti Western. Seems to me that Morricone also found influence in old western songs, such as Rawhide and Ghostriders In The Sky, and mixed this together with more Italian and Mexican orchestral music.
My favorite westerns are Rio Bravo and High Noon. In High Noon, the Marshall wants help and can’t get it. In Rio Bravo, the Marshal doesn’t want help from the town. Along with Dean Martin and Ricky Nelson, Walter Brennan also had some hit records, and I know John Wayne made a record where he spoke. Check out Mary Lou by the Creative Force, Amazing!
One of Dukes best and one of he favorite! I worked for Dukes best friend and Duke is even buried on my bosses private cemetery next to Chicks Son who died in a car wreck!
The Deguello is a bugle call (SIGNIFYING NO QUARTER to the enemy by Spanish military through the years.) John Wayne used it in two of his films, The Alamo and Rio Bravo.
I love this movie. It is one of my favorite John Wayne movies. Westerns just weren't made after he passed. This particular piece of music is actually quite lovely despite its dire meaning and yes, this is a more dressed up version. It was usually played with just trumpets and snares as it was a battle cry. It was used to pump the men up before the action hit. An adreneline buzz always helps.
I grew up watching Westerns and still love watching them. It's a pity TV networks in Australia seldom show Western movies but rather show mainly cooking, survivors, bachelorette/bachelor shows. TV isn't worth watching these days due to mostly crap shows. It would be great to have a dedicated channel that shows Westerns, especially these days with digital broadcasting.

The song is a haunting, reminiscent and invigorating all at once. When I listen to it while smoking a cigar, I feel as though I’m staring death in the face… I know he’s coming for me, but I’m not ready to go yet and I will fight tooth and nail to stay… and no matter what happens, I’m willing to accept the result. But I’m not going to let life take me down without a fight. That’s what this track makes me feel.
I am not a great fan of westerns. But this was a good one. Many years later, I met Pedro Gonzalez Gonzalez. He had some great John Wayne stories. In fact, he had great stories of all kinds. It was a privilege.
